]]> Atavism, though incurable, can be treated successfully. I treat mine in a variety of ways. During this prequel to Valentine’s day (see Valentine’s Day 2011, The Prequel), I am treating mine with Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, and Joe Cocker, performing a song based on the Italian song Uno dei tanti. The song was originally recorded in English by Ben E King.

This covers the “poor me, I have no prospects, I can’t get no satisfaction, please love me not her (him), I’m the one who really loves you, she’ll never be content with you like I will” category, but with more flair and passion than the usual whiny Dashboard Confessional song.

This in only one of Dame Shirley Bassey’s unreal performances of this song.


I have a soft place in my heart for a man my mother tells me was definitely not considered cool by her contemporaries. It must have been the clothes, because the man can sing.

]]> With Valentines Day being promoted right and left it’s hard to miss, but I’ll not reiterate every V-Day sentiment I’ve posted over the years, except to say in 2006 I wrote….

“They say……

Someday love will finally be enough.

I say….

Until that time, it won’t

The heart is a lonely hunter after all.”

I stand by that.

I’ll be back and forth over the next week, so in lieu of wasteful weak and halfhearted commentary, from now until Valentines Day I’ll be posting favorite love or lovish songs.

Starting with a song Joan Baez wrote about a past love, Bob Dylan. I’ve always loved the composition of this song.
