Justice Clarence Thomas may have a huge Conflict-of-Interest Issue regarding things that could affect health care law .

But, it was Weiner’s weener.

The Dow dropped for the 4th day in a row yesterday.

But yes, it was Weiner’s dick.

We’re still spending 2 billion dollars a week in Afghanistan.

But yes, Andrew Breitbart was right (Weiner is guilty of the pictures and of lying about sending them to another adult), and he isn’t going to shut up until he gets the respect he thinks he is due — and an apology.

Economists Lower G.D.P. Forecasts for 2nd Quarter

But, Weiner’s sorry and he won’t step down.

“For the second time in less than a year the White House is looking for a new head of the Council of Economic Advisers “.

But Weiner’s apology was tearful.

It’s the economy stupid

This song is neither here nor there I just like this girl’s voice. This is an original but she does great covers as well, and the title worked.

I have read way too much about gas prices this week. That speculation can raise my gas prices is just plain wrong, and it should be illegal.

I’ve also been reading Save the Children’s 12th Annual Mothers Index. I posted the pdf over at An Unforgivable Hell on Earth. Disheartening to say the least.

I’ve seen embarrassing displays of celebration over the death of OBL, and I’m not convinced that we should delight like munchkins in the death of even the most wicked. Nonetheless, I realize that it may not be my place to judge the method by which others derive solace.

I have listened, thanks to Doug, to several covers of the Merle Haggard Song Ma Ma Tried. I found covers by everyone from The Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash and Joan Baez to Randy Travis and the Grateful Dead. Doug has won the choose the best Mother’s Day Song contest.

Also, and this is why I can’t imagine life without internet, and would miss it were it taken from me. While searching for “mother” songs I came across Sylvia’s Mother, a song I’d never heard by a writer whose books I grew up reading. The late Shel Silverstein wrote the autobiographical tune which became a hit in 1973 for the band Dr.( Cover of the Rolling Stone), Hook and the Medicine Show. This video below is an older version of the band on Silverstein’s boat singing the song. You can see Silverstein on the sofa in the background.

It takes very little to please me, as you can see.

What have you read, seen, listened to and what will you miss this week?

There is a running festival, among other festivals, here tomorrow, and I’m slotted to run the 5k. I’ve not trained well enough for the half marathon. I was tempted, as it would have been the second, but I’ll have to wait a month for that.

Enjoy the weekend.

peace

The pictures and reports of the devastation, and post earthquake nuclear meltdown drama, remind me that man is impotent against the forces of nature, and I am man. It puts in front of me the prospect that enjoying it all while I can is my primary task, a task that should be taken seriously. Reading or writing authoritative essays, consulting and applying advanced theories, in any field from gender ethics to financial policy, pale in comparison to a life lived passionately in the real world. I’d be hard pressed to find an academic who will admit it, but that rush of adrenalin felt when life is truly experienced is seldom initiated by a published academic piece — unless that piece was a precursor to a cure for some popular disease and instigated fantasies of Nobel Laureate greatness.

The “potential for a rapid and unexpected demise”, though not as mandatory coursework, is something we should learn and carry with us. Not in the histrionic way the cable news would present it, but with a spiritual “it’s part of us” bearing. We should not be so surprised when people die en-masse. It can happen to us. We should know it, admit it, give in to it, and live our lives accordingly.

I’ve more, but I’ve learned over time that to pity the reader is the first task of a blogger. Actually, I think I learned that in a language class in reference to ” writers”, but the source eludes me at this time — feel free to remind me.

Peace.
