I still stay ditch the health are plan(s) and start from scratch, and with national health care this time. Barrel it through, using blackmail if you must. Making it the only thing you do before not getting reelected, because reelection is doubtful. The country is slightly insane and much of it is broken, and still unemployed.

Oh yea, if you’re not going to skewer Toyota for lying, and probably illegally hiding all those life threatening problems — for what 4 years, or chastise the governors or politicos from the states where their US factories are, for protecting them, at least go easy on that guy who is a little short on his income tax payments and unable to come up with the money right now.

In a time when McCain’s agenda is considered radically progressive and Lady Gaga decided to sport the dick so many insist she has, I don’t much care any longer. Maybe it’s the broken wrist, maybe it’s that the United States still hasn’t won a gold medal in Nordic Combined, or because Latvia lost to the Czech Republic in Men’s Play-offs Ice Hockey Qualifications. I sit and wait only for the colder than average, disagreeable, month of February to depart, and for March and it’s madness to begin.

I follow college basketball only during the madness when those around me, my entourage (my court), become obsessed. A forced following it is, with many yawns. I wrote a poem here a couple of years ago titled Not Poe’s Madness Mine. Strange it was.

I find many strange things in the far back pages of this blog. You should visit there sometime. It’s like looking into the mind of a fledgling psychopath.

peace

With my concentration needed elsewhere I post some links. Suggestions I think you will enjoy. Something for everyone. I know you all pretty well by now.

The famous “Just Wow” link for the day is, Walter Reed Officials Asked: Was Hasan Psychotic?. They asked this some time ago, long enough ago to have prevented this. There is something very strange, very wrong, and completely messed up here. We live in a country where you can get kicked out of high school, or at least expelled for the term, for carrying Motrin or Tylenol, but they won’t kick you out of the military, or even do a proper investigation if you are possibly psychotic and antagonistic toward the country you are serving?

The highly regarded “I’m loving it” link goes to The Hiking Artist.

The dreaded “you should vote” link goes to The World Challenge 09 finalists. There are 12 chosen finalist all innovative and awesome in their own right. My four choices use sun, shit, refuse, and disaster for the greater good. My top picks are Fuel Cell Kenya, Solar Sisters India, The Love in Haiti Project which many of you have probably already heard plenty about, and Old School Thai. Go find your favorites.

The rare “I’m sad I no longer live in N.Y. because I can’t go to this” link belongs to 33rd Annual Margaret Mead Film & Video Festival .

The coveted link, “My favorite non fiction blogelle” (a short piece posted to a blog), for this week is Get a Wife from the travel series Nowhere Slow at the Bygone Bureau.

The final and usually ignored must read link, Over 2,200 veterans died in 2008 due to lack of health insurance.

A research team at Harvard Medical School ( yea, yea, probably socialist), estimates 2,266 U.S. military veterans under the age of 65 died last year because they lacked health insurance and thus had reduced access to care. That figure is more than 14 times the number of deaths (155) suffered by U.S. troops in Afghanistan in 2008, and more than twice as many as have died (911 as of Oct. 31) since the war began in 2001.

The researchers, who released their analysis today [Tuesday], pointedly say the health reform legislation pending in the House and Senate will not significantly affect this grim picture.

Peace

Sundries for an early Saturday night.

In his article Rise of Nuclear Alarmism, John Mueller (Woody Hayes Chair of National Security Studies at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies), asks and answers “how we learned to start worrying and fear the bomb — and why we don’t have to”. A nice companion read to his recently released Atomic Obsession: Nuclear Alarmism from Hiroshima to Al-Qaeda.

Tristan tipped me off to this Archcomix presentation. A Graphic History of the Honduran Coup. The linked presentation is via alternet.

For my friends in the Dominican Republic (Say No To Sexist, Racist & Homophobic Dominican Constitution)

Less than a fortnight before my 5th blogging anniversary I sit here perusing technorati’s 2009 state of the blogesphere. I believe it is their 6th such event. This year it comes in 5 or 6 parts, plenty of statistics to browse through. In case you are even geekier than I am here is an archived post regarding the first state of the blogesphere, done in 2004 after two years worth of tracking.

Now for the state of the Coopersphere.

Should be Famous will end soon, it expires and unfortunately I have no time for it. Intentions were good, but as we know intent means little outside a court of law.

This blog remains of course, as does Hell on Earth.

I now have a Tumblr where I post Compulsions.

Speaking of my upcoming bloggaversary, I’m not sure whether having lasted 5 years is something I should be pleased with, and write about, or not. Are the expectations similar to those applied when speaking or writing of chronological age? By that I mean, if you are old, and have done nothing, is it best to not to congratulate yourself on your age? If so I suppose I shouldn’t mention my blogging anniversary, as unlike in my life, where I’ve accomplished a bit, I’ve achieved very little in blogging. This blogging, it’s my closet. A large closet with shelves, possibly even a window. A closet with a view it may be, but not a room, never a room.

Not totally inept I’ve managed to find some grand readers for my closet, and for that I applaud myself.

Congratulatory bloggaversary gifts will not be accepted, however, you may friend a gorilla in my honor, for $1. ;)

Peace
