Happy Father’s Day

I have a lovely father. A man who came halfway around the world to be with his children this weekend, because his children couldn’t go halfway around the world to visit him, and they complained about it.

Loudly.

He sat patiently through an interrogation about his health, his eating habits and his exercise regime. He listened as my brother and I warned him of the hazards of body boarding at his age, and while we reminded him to take aspirin every time he travels overseas.

We spent a day yesterday with a large family body gathered at my brother’s. Many men came from all parts of the country and the world to spend one day with the rest of the fathers in this large, extended family.

I took my father to brunch today, and spent two and a half hours in conversation about life, mostly mine.

My brother has him this afternoon for some bonding on the golf course. Neither my father or my brother are much at golf. They will spend the hours on the course discussing life, mostly my brother’s.

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers out there.

If you’re going to be a father, be a good one.
