Happy Halloween.
As a horror lover, with a fondness for all things Gothic, I frequently wander fictional darkness. This prevents undue concentration on real horrors of Paul Ryan, the ire of Newt, global warming, and the lack of a sound updated infrastructure in a country where political presidential candidates spend a billion dollars per campaign.
I am aware that most of you are well able to find your own nightmares, but this year I suggest The Dunwitch Horror and House of the Seven Gables — one of my favs from middle school. Though one never goes wrong with anything by Edgar Allen Poe. Of course for those of you who have yet to read my past suggestions ( A Turn of the Screw, The Picture of Dorian Gray) shame on you.
The Wicker Man film from 1974, not the remake from 2006, is a fun scary viewing too.
Tremble well my friends.
Your “real horrors” are far more terrifying than any fiction. Enjoy the fictional horrors tonight. Hope Sandy didn’t knock on your door.
It kept me in town and without power for several hours but that is about it.
“Strength is incomprehensible by weakness, and, therefore, the more terrible.”
love me some Nathaniel Hawthorne
HAPPY HALLOWEEN…HOPE YOU ARE SAFE ..MAYBE OUT OF THE AREA
Yeah, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen one of those old middle school books.
Not the awful Cage remake.
Halloween here was postponed as a lot of the electricity only went on this morning. Too bad. I love Halloween on Halloween. The neighbors with a generator had a small party for the neighborhood kids and parents.
The remake was pitiful. Did your kids get to trick or treat?
