I’ve read (on Kindle) just today….

A good fast read. I recommend it as gift to friends and enemies.

I’ve seen a video in which Penn Ji fucking lette does a good job justifying his stint as a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice.

Then I remember that he used to star in a show called Bull Shit.

I’ve listened to Bert Jansch’s cover of Angie, and Amy Winehouse’s cover of Will You Love Me Tomorrow, thanks to the various In Memoriam posts at Starmaker Machine.

I will miss 2011. It was good to me.The Year of ~~Living Dangerously~~ no obstructions. It didn’t get in my way. 2011 gave me what I wanted — no obstacles.

Born To Be Wild?

I rarely take the MARC into D.C., but I had a mini morning conference to attend on Friday and was too lazy to drive. On the trip home the train hit someone. This was a half hour from my stop — people getting hit by the MARC is no longer surprising here, common almost. With no transit bus to where my car was parked I accepted a ride from an acquaintance who happens to live a short distance from the stop where the accident occurred. He convinced me a motorcycle ride was no more dangerous than snowboarding down a mountain, or surfing alone in the ocean. I knew this not to be true, but his eyes persuaded me. Besides, I was born to be wild right?

I admit it was kind of a blast. Consequently, I spent the better part of Saturday afternoon and early evening on a motorcycle too. It is something I could fancy long term, after my ass starts feeling itself again. I’d have to have my own though. Motorcycle — I already have an ass.

Once I was a blogger. Now I’m a person with a blog.

The Fragrance of the Fumes

This past week I realized that a bullet dodged may be nothing more than an opportunity lost after-all, but that is for another time.

Over the last week or so I was in and out of Seattle for a mini conference and on to Durham University Hospital where my grandmother is currently residing. My grandmother broke her neck. She was thrown from her horse and fractured her first and second cervical vertebrae — a Superman fracture. Her doctors are not quite sure why she is not paralyzed or dead, never mind without neurological deficit. They are contemplating a Halo as generally after the age of 70 they do no like to do surgery on these type of fractures, but she is healthier than most her age, and those contraptions are not used as often anymore. Currently she is only in a rigid collar on 24 hour watch (usually my grandfather), while the discussion as to what to do continues among the family. She is in a precarious situation, no one is sure of the outcome but of course we are hoping for the best.

Fire burns under work, Wimbledon, and worry. The blog smolders — this, the fragrance of the fumes.
