Wonderland or Not is the personal blog of the bad poet, policy geek, and part time social and cultural critic formerly known as “Alice” (as in Wonderland, not chains), but currently known as cooper.
You’ll find here the daily leftovers of a slightly tortured, at times unreasonably idealistic, mind. You’ll discover the bad poetry and prose of someone with little talent for poetry or prose. I write of things I love, things that concern me, and things that make me laugh. I seldom write about myself, but I may write about my brother. That this blog sometimes serves a purpose other than catharsis, is happenstance. This blog was never meant to have a purpose.
I was born in Vermont, grew up in Tasmania, did a stint in Venezuela, went to high school in Maryland, went to college in NYC, and grad school in D.C. I am a policy analyst without a border. I have multidisciplinary dual grad degree with emphasis on research and analysis in public and foreign policy, and as such am a candidate for post grad work in a variety of disciplines — of which surfing is one.
I currently work in refugee resettlement. I also do strategic planning consultation for advocacy organizations (human rights, women’s issues).
This is a personal blog. It is unrelated in any way to the work I do, the organizations I work for, and or those who hire me for consultation.
I’m for peace, poetry, sushi, cotton, dogs, Siberian cats, surfing, justice, hiking, gin, stringed instruments, steel toe boots and Jimmy Choo’s iconic 4.7 inch heeled peep toe in black leather.
Not so much for the use of the word “epic” unless speaking of Homer’s Iliad, reality television, pundits, ignorance, stockings, stalkings, tobacco, passive aggression, weddings.
