Sunday Bloody Sunday

I have people in from out of town this weekend. Parent people. Because they are seldom in town it’s been decided, at the last second, via Facebook no less, that all family within 125 miles of my city will spend Sunday together for dinner.

Unlike last year, the only cook and bartender I have this year looks back at me from the hall mirror. Consequently, we are all going to my favorite Lebanese restaurant. I’ve offered up the pre dinner cocktails, only fair because the restaurant is much closer to me than to anyone else.

Feel free to hit me up with your best Bloody Mary recipe. I want to serve a strong Bloody Mary. One no one will forget — or remember drinking. Something to prevent a long afternoon of begging the loaded question, hasty generalizations, too many points of view, and an overabundance of persuasion, argument and cliche. Though arguably some of the best food for satire, these events can be trying if not made more temperate ( some would say tolerable), with something like a strong Bloody Mary. Those of you heading out for some kind of family dinner know exactly what I mean.

Peace

  1. I don’t think my family has gotten together since… my wedding! And the only people present were my immediate family (uber-small wedding celebration, which involved chinese food and scrabble).

I don’t think many of my family members inhabit the same timezone, much less 125 miles.

It actually sounds kind of nice! Of course, part of that might be because family dinners like that will never be a reality for me.

    • My family is spread l all over the world. The few within 125miles of e are a diverse bunch and it’s been awhile since we’ve been together. It was fun though. I’m glad it happened. My parents are the real draw.

      .

  2. A sweet.
I’ll send a recipe tomorrow when I get home. I have two pretty good ones.

Enjoy dinner, avoid loaded questions. I like attending family events, I appreciate the misery more now than when I was in college. I bet I’ll try to avoid them more and love them more too,,,,,,as times goes on.

I’m working so no family for me.

  3. My bloody mary recipe starts with Mary.

  4. Can’t help you with this one. Alcohol free (and prefer my tomatoes fresh).

  5. I’m a very lazy person when it comes to making drinks. I like bloody mary’s once in awhile, but I’ve never made one myself. I like them tepid, not too hot. I had a friend at Bucknell who put olive oil in them, along with Worcestershire sauce but that is all I remember.

Enjoy the day. I am not on call at all this weekend so I’m going out to eat, calling my family and then going to sleep.

  7. horseradish. Lots of horseradish, tabasco and lemon–sodium free V8 juice mixed with tomato juice–and it’s not true that you can any use vodka
    Have a wonderful Easter

  8. I don’t like tomato juice, I have no recipe, I’m a mimosa kind of guy.

Three cheers for a day of begging the loaded question. There is something to be said for suffering through that stuff ever so often. This year I’m without family. A walk on the beach and dinner out with friends for me.

  10. For some reason, the amount of time I spend on Facebook seems to be inversely proportional to the amount of time my immediate family is on Facebook. And I’m never on.

I’m afraid I’d be no help with Mary. But I do make a mean virgin green Kool-Aid.
