Have Read (Seen, Listened To, Will Miss), Friday

It’s that time again, and as inconsistent as this Friday event is I’m sure you are thinking…. WTF. Yes, WTF. The only acronym that should have been added to the Oxford English Dictionary and it wasn’t.

I have seen the blue ocean of Central America in March and I will miss surfing in Panama. I’m easy though, it could have been anywhere.

I’ve read a poem by Lorine Niedecker and I think you will enjoy it.

When Ecstasy is Inconvenient

Feign a great calm;
all gay transport soon ends.
Chant: who knows—
flight’s end or flight’s beginning
for the resting gull?

Heart, be still.
Say there is money but it rusted;
say the time of moon is not right for escape.
It’s the color in the lower sky
too broadly suffused,
or the wind in my tie.

Know amazedly how
often one takes his madness
into his own hands
and keeps it.

And I listened to Sade’s In Another Time.

  1. Spellbound and inspired after watching this. Will miss my Swedish friend Per, who lost his life last week to cancer. Enjoyed the poem, wish you would post more pics of you surfing.

    • Fascinating Rich.

I sorry for the loss of your friend.

I know I should post more photos and possible I will. As most are of of friends I am always hesitant. That is me but there are few.

  2. OMG YOU ARE RIGHT.

Read “Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything” . Not bad I’d recommend it if I could remember to do so.

Have seen the “adjustment bureau” and it sucked.

    Listened to the Kentucky/ Ohiobasketball game,..Kentucky won…wowsa.

Listened to an old Radiohead remix. I love the Sade, and the poem is one of the more awesome I’ve been introduced to lately.

I’ve nothing to miss but you if you go coop.

  3. The poem makes me wish I could write like that and the song is beautiful in the most real senses of the word
20 years ago today my father had a stroke and he died five days later. Thinking about him and my mother is the ultimate missing. I wish I could believe in something more but I can’t….
Tomorrow I have to accompany a friend to the cult church to make sure she’s not baptized–she begged as she’s having marital difficulties and might succumb if she goes alone. I can’t figure out why she thinks she has to go but..

    • I was looking for women in lit for an end of women’s history month post and found her poems. I rather like them overall I’m not familiar with her but she was a bit of a recluse.

I want to read that “friend church cult” story.

  4. I’ve read The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. I recommend it even though the American publisher deleted full chapters.

Listened to and seen a lot of basketball this weekend. I don’t follow it so I have to pretend I know what’s going on. I was sad to see Ohio out though.

That is a great poem. I’ve not heard of that poet.

Nice song. I’m not familiar with Sade.

The surf photo breaks my heart. I am alway jealous of that.

  5. WTF ON WTF.
    .
I’m reading the newspapers that I haven’t had the time to read and I am considering stopping all but online subscriptions.

I’ve seen two red birds fight on the lawn not sure what kind of birds, and will miss the books I’m boxing up and taking to the used book store.

Nice photo and the poem sounds like something you’d write, I can see how you would like it.

always something new to learn here be it from ou or from others.

  6. Have read a bazillion websites — that’s a close approximation — trying to diagnose and fix the problem with my router.

Have listened to rain, and storms raging all night.

Have seen my bracket, once so promising, fall apart in the last two days.

Will miss four channels of March Madness at once. But it was Xanadu for awhile.

    • I am having trouble with my wireless router as well. It was fine until I read this comment.

I’m guessing that you didn’t have Kentucky or VCU in your bracket?

  7. I’m afraid I read AB 74 three times. I listened to Sade on this blog. I will miss listening to Sade on this blog when I start reading for Sacramento again just about any second.

  8. I listened to a patient tell me the story of how an alcohol level four times normal had nothing to do with his totaling his car and almost killing his passenger.
Read medical chart after medical chart. Will miss trauma/ER rotation, and by the way I love

Sade. I only started listening to her this past year.

  9. Nice poem find, lovely photo and the music is …Sade.

Sade the group with sade is touring with John Legend this summer, long tour check it out.

    • I know the tickets in B-more are pretty expensive, not sure about the Verizon Center but I would rather see her in the B-More venue.

  10. One of these days I’m going to attempt a surfboard just so I can tell my future children I was once a surfer.

The title of that poem is great otherwise I am a failure at figuring out poetry.

SADE is coming to Baltimore with John Legend. That is a pretty big thing I guess.
I have heard their newer stuff but if this song is any indication it’s one of those have a few drinks and relax type of things. nice.

    • I grew up in Australia and didn’t start surfing until I moved to the US. Go figure.

I think the Baltimore is a better venue than D.C. for Sae, the Verizon Center is too huge to compliment them.

  11. Have read through different recipes for Turkey Tetrazzini.
Listened to both songs posted here, the only music I’ve listened to this weekend.
Will miss teaching 5th grade next year. I’m going to move up to middle school.

    I love the surfing photo.

Continue to listen to the Mighty, Mighty Bosstones, although I found an album by Human Sexual Response at an estate sale. Imagine that… a Boston band album found in a pennsyltucky dustbin some 30 years later! There is hope for humankind. …
