Today is international women’s day.
I can think of no more worthy a celebration than to sit down to a glass of wine (cocoa, tea, beer, cranberry juice), while reading the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay. My acquaintance with her is slight, by way of Witch Wife and First Fig. I am rectifying that by downloading A Few Figs From Thistles to my Kindle.
THURSDAY
AND if I loved you Wednesday,
Well, what is that to you?
I do not love you Thursday–
So much is true.
And why you come complaining
Is more than I can see.
I loved you Wednesday,–yes–but what
Is that to me?
Edna St. Vincent Millay
A worthy read for those who have not read this early feminist and award winning poet.
The Kindle Version is avaiable at no cost, click on the book, or you can read the collection here.
Whether from your blogroll or your bookshelf, read a woman today.
peace

The new format is an improvement I think. Downloading the book to my kindle as I type. I needed this diversion from work — it’s been the weekend from hell. Happy IWD to you, international woman that you are.
It’s a nice collection.
You are the queen of all things free on Kindle, and that is why I love you. That, and you introduced me to Matt.
Perfect poem for you btw.

Queen of all ting free. Thanks. ;)
Happy Woman’s Day. I’m going to celebrate with listening.
Good idea.
Seems a little high brow to me how is she gonna feel on Friday, isn’t that date night?

Nice one croaker.
Great poem, never heard it. I’ve heard first fig without knowing the title. Not at all high brow considering how common it was to “count the ways”. I’ll read the online version of the collection via the droid.

I don’t have one but will get one one of these days. I loved my old mac but haven’t used a mac since college. I already have a small notebook so it just not necessary right now.
The question isn’t who is going to let me;
it’s who is going to stop me. – Ayn Rand
Nice line.
I dig the new site design. I rather the rainy windshield over the inverted rabbit.
I celebrated Women’s Day by not objectifying women or looking at any porn nor even allowing myself to gain arousal by the mere thought of. Instead (being a single male) I filled my day imagining jabbing my eyes with sharp objects. I suggest doing the same when there is a special day celebrating average white males, but since there won’t ever be no need to worry is there?

That is the original header of my original blog.
Average white males had their chance and look what happened.
Good point. I’ve never even wanted to be white anyway. Since age 4 I wanted to be Asian, and I wasn’t particular about which sex either. Instead I was born with blue eyes with Spanish/French Canadian ancestry.

A day late, but on Wednesday. Though I prefer Thursday It’s always been my favorite day of the week and I’ve never known why
Please don’t ever stop blogging. Your blog with whatever header is like coming home

You mean instead of pontificating to the point where everyone is covering their eyes going “la la la la la la I can’t read you”?
That was enjoyable, Miss Cooper. I especially liked “The Philosopher.”
Happy Women’s Day (you had to know I wouldn’t be here the day of). And I, too, like the rainy windshield header. I wish I were adept at changing blog designs.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, late is always better than on time.
It shows I’m suddenly past 30 that I liked “Midnight Oil”
“CUT if you will, with Sleep’s dull knife,
Each day to half its length, my friend,–
The years that Time takes off my life
He’ll take from off the other end!”
