Having more than the usual excess to blow off after a 1am jazz experience, I woke early for a decadence dispersion run.
To do this I planned to run 6 or 7 miles, but I ran the canal with a girlfriend, and we were joined by an uninvited man. The gentleman was alone, introduced himself to me, and acted surprised when I failed to recognize him. According to him we’d met at some long ago event having to do with The Washingtonian and Georgetown. Though the event rang a bell the man, if I recalled him at all, I recalled only in the vague way of a random melody that periodically pops up in the far corners of my thought processes while driving, suffering through a boring lecture, or listening to insidious gossipy girl talk. The vibe was devoid of danger, but my lack of total recall gave my friend pause and we cut the run short.
We instead went and ate breakfast, a big one.
I returned home, did some work and slowly faded into a half sleep/dream with the telly on. In this state I’m atop the podium subsequent to my dog (unseen dog of unknown breed because after all the dream is about me), winning the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship — the show playing on the telly while I slept.
I liked that dream.
That’s as exciting as it gets around here.
I’m a bit obsessive, and that incomplete run will be the death of me, so I managed to dig up a running partner and we’re heading toward the park right down the street to make up those missing miles.
Oh, wait…..Chicago scored a goal so now we have to wait and see what happens over the next 12 minutes, because running partner, though not a football fan, is a current New Yorker, suffering D.C. for the time being, though born in or around Chicago, a Yankee fan who likes the Jets more than the Giants, and he and has to catch this. WTF
I’m heading toward the treadmill.

decadence dispersion is a frequent workout partner around here too. Unfortunately, dreams are nearly always fleeting for me, and the details are gone as soon as I’m aware I might have been dreaming. One recurring dream-frustration involves me finding myself at some beach staring out at epic surf, and realizing I’d forgotten to bring my wetsuit or bodysurfing fins…
I’ve had that dream Rich.
I have a lot of half dreams while the television is on and they always half involve the program that is playing at the time.
I am correcting papers and watching the game, and making soup.
Too bad Chicago lost…

I care not who wins I just prefer underdogs.
The canal towpath is a great recreational asset but there are parts of it I would not be caught dead in alone.
” decadence dispersion ” great term.
Yea, I just want the team who beat the Ravens to die a slow death, but my fear is that isn’t likely to happen.

I’ve never been afraid though there are some remote sections for sure. In good weather most of the areas within a few miles of the drop offs are full of runners and bikers.
Those Herman Leonard photographs at his site are a great as
“the vague way of a random melody that periodically pops up in the far corners of my thought processes while driving, suffering through a boring lecture, or listening to insidious gossipy girl talk” this sentence and the picture I have in my head of a ” decadence dispersion run”
That towpath is hundreds of miles long, anything can happen.
always er on the side of caution

Aren’t those some sweet photographs. I have one of his books, he passed aways last summer.
speaking as someone who doesn’t ever know how long he’ll be able to run before his legs start yelling at him, yeah, treadmills are great, because when that happens you don’t have to walk lamely back to where you started

I prefer to run outside though. I actually only have it because it was mine, I gave it away last summer to a friend, and she gave it back to me because she moved to a smaller place, so I figured I’d tool it back to hold it for my assistant who wants it but isn’t moving to somewhere large enough until spring. It’s a nice one, but I belong to the gym here as well and I use it rarely.
I’m currently shopping for a gym membership now that I get a rebate from my Massachusetts Socialist health plan.

My gym is pretty good they have a pool hand pilates and yoga I use those and I use the equipment some. They gave students, even grad students, significant discounts – hug actually I am not sure when it expires how much it will cost but I think three times as much.
I’ve never been much of a runner. I do more weight training. If I do cardio it’s usually in the form of circuit training.
I usually fall asleep with the history channel on or the military channel. So my half asleep dreams are of me being shot at.
And I think the Steelers just won so that makes for a good night.
Yea they won.
both the history and the military channels drone so they are easy sleeping tonics..
Certain parts of that towpath are safer than others.
I used to like the Key-Chain Hike in side the beltway.
Out toward Cumberland there is some awesomeness too. We used to bike out there before we got the house on the easer shore.
The whole trail is something like 184 miles long that is why it is so great. i’m glad you use it. Never alone though.

is the key chain hike actually part of the towpath?
It is all supposedly maintained by the federal park people I see the dries and sometimes a vehicle but never any real rangers or anything.
My paranoid psychological analyst opinion:
Sounds to me like your running partner is trying to set you up with this guy. Does she possibly think you’re in need of “setting up”. I speculate that his agitation denotes some time spent indulging sexual fantasies/possibilities of you.
I think too much, which is dangerous, I know. Remember I could always be 100% wrong.
My scariest dreams are the ones when I’m alone outside being chased down by a car at night.
Funniest dreams are when I’m driving an old truck and in the passenger seat is a dead white guy I keep telling I wish he’d hitched a ride with someone else. In these dreams I’m always stuck driving through a downtown parade with lots of people staring at me.

You obviously have watched “Christine” too many times.
Parades like clowns are inherently frightening…. Something wicked this way comes comes to mind, the book not the movie if there was a movie which I am not sure about.
Naw, she didn’t know him, she went to school in PA and lives in town running a vintage clothing store.
Oh.
The parade part never bothered me.
It’s the exposed dead body in plain sight / daylight with people staring that’s usually the whimsical element.

I’ve had vivid and odd dreams for the past week myself. Then again, aren’t they all? Odd, that is.
The Jets always seemed more New York to me than the Giants. Not sure why. (You know, because I’m such the New York expert and all.)

As I am an Alabama expert.
I never developed a taste for NY sport teams though I went to a Yankees game once while I lived there. I don’t remember much about people’s feeling about football. I know ….. a sin.
I prefer the dream and the treadmill to the outside and the stranger any day….or just the dream.

Dreams are more frightening to me most of the time ….
I imagine a lot of people remember you that you don’t remember.
A lot of people remember me in diapers, and you are right I rarely recall that far to the past. ;)
I agree, people tend to remember you for a lot of reasons but not all of them are your stunning beauty and biting wit. ;)
I think Rock Creek Park is far shadier than most places on the towpath, especially as you get out of the city and out to where you probably pick it up.
Certain start points are common to people in any given area. How many start point are there 30, 40, more?
Then again running in this weather and recent temperature is brave. It warmer on the coast even in the cold so running is easy. I run around the complex I live in because no one lives her in the winter.,
“decadence dispersion”, good name for a company I’ll take it.

Yea but that is because of he murders there during high school.
That is a good company name but I thought you already had a name?
One day I’ll have to do the whole tow path over a long weekend, probably on a bike with a group of people. It’s maybe 180 or 200 miles long in total.
I had a dream Saturday night that scared me half to death. understood why people get heart attacks in their sleep now. Don’t remember the dream just the feeling upon waking “wow that’s what dementia is truly like. An inability to remember explicit events or express anything.” As I said scary and not an experience I care to repeat.
Today would be the best beach walk day since 1/1. Unfortunately I have to stay home and exercise here. Rain the rest of the week. But Saturday’s going to be great, so far!
Do people get heart attacks in their sleep? That is not a good thing to know. I figured sleep was the safes place to be.
Is it hanging the 50 there or warmer now?
I have the best dreams while half asleep in front of the television.
We’re going to have to do some Jazz in the future but lets do NY not Baltimore o DC.
