Great Expectations Unplugged

Earlier this week three long hibernating, off the scene, bloggers stopped by my comment section to say “hey”. Though lost blogging compatriots sometimes appear out of nowhere, it is unusual to find three “long-goners” appearing in the comment section of the same post. It was lovely of course, if a bit odd — foreboding even. It was as if a few of those who had escaped to the world of non-bloggers were simultaneously summoned for jury duty, or a secret inquisition, surrounding my blogging universe. I’ll never know what strange truth landed them here, but it was a pleasant surprise.

This sudden congregation of old timers gave me cause to reflect on the length of my blogging pilgrimage. I gave it brief consideration, and was content. It’s unlike me to be content, but with blogging, satisfaction comes easily. Unlike the rest of my life where (to quote the neurotic post-adolescent female protagonist in one of my least favorite Joyce Carol Oates novels), “it’s as if a wicked troll had baptized me, in infancy… unknowing; a flick of the troll’s fingers, poisonous water splashed on to my forehead. I baptize thee in the name of ceaseless yearning, ceaseless seeking and ceaseless dissatisfaction.”

This malcontent is unplugging, rejuvenating, for a few days. An escape to Banff and Lake Louise.

  1. Yeah, wow that Indie emerged. I wonder if, rather than blogging on a community basis, he’s been using google to trawl posts about stalking. Indy?

    Enjoy the trip, Coop.

  2. It turned so chilly overnight I feel like I’m in Canada.

    Have great rejuvenation.

    I’ve never heard that song.

  3. Have a nice rest. The Canadian Rockies are awesome – in case you don’t know it already.

The separation between “the rest of your life” and blogging is what’s always made this blog, I think. Though I’ve always suspected that such a JCO quote would work for your real life. ;)

Great song btw. Don’t hear if often.

  4. We all could use a little rest now and then, Miss Cooper. Have fun in the Great Canadian Wilderness.

What you figured everyone is too stupid to figure it out for themselves?

    Rightly so.

I’m jealous. Jasper is awesome I expect Banff is the same.

    Re-juice and enjoy.

  6. It’s good to be much smaller than your surroundings. You know that, or you’d be going to some lame Caribbean island to drink Margaritas on the beach.

I ‘d love to be going there about now.

    Take care.

  7. I was out enjoying the Rockies in my back yard last night under some very dark skies with my telescope at 10,000 feet (Wolf Creek summit). The milky way was bright enough overhead to cast shadows. Hope you enjoy your part of the same…

  8. Just stopping by to wave. …

  9. Was I one of the three?

Enjoy the outdoors, old friend =P

  12. You know it wasn’t until a few of weeks ago that I figured out the swaying cat head with headset was your blog’s default ID image.
Before then I thought it was this same weird person who had a thing for cats.
That’s why it is good to be cautious.
