Colbert With Israeli Ambassador To The US

Colbert with Michael Oren, the Israeli ambassador to the US, from earlier in the week. I’ve only recently viewed it thanks to The Fury in Me. I don’t get to see much Comedy Central these days, unless it’s placed directly in front of me on the internet.

The ambassador was allowed some good PR, most notably on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla attacks. Stephen makes clear he found Helen Thomases comment despicable, though he does not abandon her as his friend. His acquiescence surprises at first, but never fear, Colbert knows how to make a point, and with exclamation. It takes between 8:15 and 8:45 minutes to make it, but it’s the willingness to concede that time, (to let others make their point, and to allow time for said point be justly evaluated), that makes the exclamation point distinctive.

  3. Nice one. I don’t get to watch them much either.

This whole thing is an extremely difficult conversation between friends sometimes.

  4. Don’t tell me your reading Foucault’s Pendulum….long haul.

I am out of my element and can’t give an opinion on this. I know geology, and I’ve traveled to Israel and have friends there. I have many friends struggling with this currently.

“the willingness to concede that time, (to let others make their point, and to allow time for said point be justly eva lua ted)”

allows for a better point to be made in the end…Colbert is smart that way

  5. I don’t get to see Colbert very much these days. But I agree, he’s not all about the comedy. He does drive home some good points now and then.
