Helen, Helen, Helen.
Some things are beyond indefensible, so thank you for not

There are more opinions on this than on the war in Afghanistan, the Gulf Oil Spill, and the Immigration situation combined. I’m keeping my opinion to myself, but I like these.
Within a few days, the media’s “Israel narrative” shifted from Israel behaving badly to Helen Thomas behaving badly, leaping the moral gulf between complex issues and knee-jerk ones.

Let Helen Thomas go; she earned her unemployment. But let’s not ignore Pat Buchanan, who has been able to successfully launder his racism through CNN, MSNBC, and as a syndicated columnist for decades

I prefer the live version and I don’t have it so here’s a video, go 55 seconds, he has equipment issues. You can listen to the standard studio mp3 below if you prefer.

I’ve seen indignant folks on both side of this coin..nice segue to Neil Young – more related than I at first thought.
She is really old.

If Thomas were an almost 90 year old male reporter in his post icon years a pass would have been given, but a women is an old bitch, a hag, and unredeemable in this situation. Funny how that works.
It was a cringe worthy comment from Thomas and all things told she is almost 90 and jobs are scarce these days , she needed to go.
The whole Palestine/Israeli thing is frustrating for a lot of people. I know enough history and I don’t know what to think most of the time.
But the music is lovely, poignant, and it works with the subject matter. Can I be your agent?

Indeed there’s no doubt about the cringe worthiness. The music I love.
They wrote such good music back then it makes me want to cry.

I was so carried away by the music I forgot to leave my opinion behind.
I’m with the people below on this one cooper.

Ari Fleischer leaves his tanning bed for an hour to protest against Thomas. He says he is very offended “as a Jew.” These people are despicable. God forbid he says anything against Rush Limbaugh. God forbid we remember the atrocities he smiled away during the Bush Presidency. God forbid we talk about 28 new orphans from the Flotilla attack. Fake indignation always works.

Exactly
That is very romantic tune in a manner of speaking.
I shall add this tune to my mental soundtrack’s top play list, and put it on heavy rotation.
There’s other news going on besides the gulf spill?? Really?? Seriously? Where???
I have gotten pretty exhausted over the oil spill to the point of constant rage, but there’s not much I can do to fulfill that rage unless I want to end up on the FBI’s home terrorist watch list.
So I’m gonna chill with music. Preferable mellow stuff like this.

Never thought of this a a romantic tune bu I think he was quite a poet, yes “After The Goldrush”, the album this is from, is something one can just listen to.
My father was a singer of Neil Young songs.
Ah, Neil Young, impossible to go wrong with him. My cousin lived in Israel for a few years (after spending a decade in Egypt). She has both Israeli and Palestinian friends, and definitely has more sympathy for the latter. I’ll leave it at that.
It’s subject on which I hold no authority on any level.
Whatever else it says about her, it is an end to a long career. Maybe it was too late in coming, but that’s how most endings are whenever politics and/or religion are involved.

Who’s to say when it’s too late.
I’m not sure the comparisons to Pat Buchanan and other right wingers is fair. What the entertainment-filled right wing pundits do is spew hatred. What Helen said wasn’t hate. It wasn’t correct, but not at all hate.
Tis better to be Republican and stupid than moderate and speak your mind. What a world.

I didn’t see it as a comparison, more saying yea let her go because by virtue of the blooper she should, but let’s not kid ourselves ….. the real spewers of hate are still out there
Musically speaking you were born 20 years to late and I was born twenty years to early. Neil Young looks like Hagrid From Harry Potter without the beard.

You see I find him rather attractive, sexually I mean. At that age of course, not currently, he is a bit too old for me now.

a nice quality video

Yes it is good quality, happy you noticed.
She said something stupid, that’s all it is to me. Matt, a fine Jew if I say so myself, feels the same way. As we look at the pictures of the Gulf, and the ongoing Afghanistan war in which we are killing more kids and women than seems would be politically correct, and in which we can’t seem to decide who to fund – the warlords or the Taliban, not to mention the Palestinian human factor, this kind of ongoing outrage by those ….you know…really pisses me off.

Yup. Oh please say hi to the fine Jew for me, hope to see you guys some day.
The music is beautiful and sadly reminds me of being young when everything was possible
I’m not defending Israel–I don’t like most Israelis and I did live there, (being the only country that paid me to stay) or Ari Fleisher who I personally find sickening–but “go back to Germany or Russia?” No, if she were a 90 year old man she wouldn’t have been given a free pass
I find the song rather sad but indicative of letting things pass and then get better again.
You know I think she is rather crotchety. The Rabbi has the camera stuck in her face and was screaming questions at her, she lashed out at him that way…stupid move and very wrong, but I think we can move on, and a man wouldn’t have gotten away with it either because you don’t do that to Jews, just as you don’t criticize Israel, but it does seem that any other way any other bigotry or racism is more tolerated.
I understand there was Holocaust and god help us if we ever let such a thing happen again – thou smaller genocides have occurred under our watch – but the frustrations of the Palestinian horrors, and the fact that sometimes one has to speak according to now, and not according to then, makes me want to let it pass.
Enjoyed the song.
The post title makes for a nice mantra. Maybe even a lullaby. Yeah, I can totally see me singing this to my kid someday. Most likely when their mother isn’t around.
Bone recently posted..Some people claim there’s a woman to blame
My father sang me Neil Young’s “four and twenty “as a lullaby constantly,,,,,it is the only song he ever sand as he rocked me to sleep the first year or so of my life.
