The Kind of Music I Like

March 12th, 2010 by cooper

Tomorrow will be a day of redemptive isolation. Though no Walden Pond, my place provides seclusion when necessary. The solitude, an isolation of convenience created by the forecast of downpours and flooding, will be welcome. The week has been busy, and this evening I ate something that didn’t quite agree with me.

That’s tomorrow. Today is Old School Friday. The theme is The Kind Of Music I Like.

I can only explain it this way. I like many types of music, preferably good.

This was not good people, it was pretension.

Shirley Manson/Garbage do a much better cover.

This is good.

Also good, and provoked by my new found love of Gordon Lightfoot, at Compulsions — THIS.

What kind of music do you like?

AI is one of the most painful things to watch on TV,(beside MAryland basketball), my gf watches it, even though she insists she hates it.
Feigning the “oh so totally indie” thing. It was just bad.

    Man Gordon Lightfoot is old.

The kind of music I like is on my iPod. Which pretty much leaves me five years behind on any new releases. Maybe a better representation would be the last three concerts I’ve been to — Willie, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and Counting Crows. Yes, I believe that says it all.

Ah, G-Light. A true vocal stylist.

I do love counting crows, saw them at merriweather post last fall. good stuff. You should shake up that iPod once in awhile though.

Willie is just so old though one thing I would have loved to see would have been Willie and Johnny Cash..never did.

I always laugh when I see “seclusion” and Walden Pond in the same sentence. Use to run around the estate to the west of the pond (has a nice raised 300m running track that is covered with decades of needles from the surrounding conifers) but the east side is abutted by State Rt. 117. Immediately on the other side of 117 is the Concord Landfill. Or, as I call it, a wicked big dump. And as dumps go, this one has more than its share of seagulls.

As you know, I have a real affinity Garbage, Shriekback, Joan Jet, Clash, Fine Young Cannibals, and the like. But I also have long has a soft spot for the pipes of Loretta Lynn and Reba da neocon.

We all have our weird sides I suppose.

And considering the relative suburban area that Walden Pond was in even back then…:)

I dislike that Reba but the old girls…Loretta and earlier I really can appreciate.

If You Could Read My Mind was one of my favorite songs and still is (and I still know all the lyrics. Same is true of I Fall to Pieces, maybe slightly less so. And you’re right that that young gal can’t get near Patsy.

It’s kind of a requirement for the position of old grouch to think kids today don’t appreciate good music, and I do think that. But I have to make an exception for Ms. Coop. You can deejay my funeral when the time comes.

This song is in my head at the moment; I love her pipes, and the imagery and people the lyrics (not necessarily the video) evokes.

It’s difficult to know where to begin — I like all kids of music. But you’re right that girl is not good. She isn’t horrible, though she is on that song, but she fools people into thinking she is different. The older country songs are often great.

I just found it weird how people were all like “OMG how could she be gone”???

She may even be bad but she she certainly was not that good nor that original.

I like different sorts of music, but I’m mostly into anything in modern rock, so long as it’s an upbeat tempo, to get the blood flowing. The newer, the better.
Ride To California, by Paper Tongues has been stuck in my head, but I don’t mind it so much, plus it’s better than that stupid any $5 foot-long subway commercial stuck in my head from the Olympics.
Patsy Cline’s music makes me sad for her, and since I’m oddly happy I’ll try to remember for next Winter.

I’ve heard other versions of “I fall to pieces” that were pretty good  — not lily’s.

    Love the Gordon Lightfoot piece.

I can’t say what I like, I just know it when I hear it.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to the words to that song ( the Gordon Lightfoot song), or really listened to it. Great Stuff.

I agree about the song from hat clip it sounds pretty bad compared to Cline.

That girl did kind of suck it is easy to fool people by pretending to be different..isn’t that scary?

Gordon Lightfoot stuff s pretty nice.
I can’t say I’ve spent much time listening to either Patsy Cline or Gordon Lightfoot but they both sound more worthy that that there idol clip.

Patsy Cline’s amazing “I go on walking” is one of my all time favorite songs

My taste is so diverse I couldn’t begin to say what I like

It depends on the hour of the day. This weekend Roseanne Cash was big in my house. But so was a local soul/funk/shag group Chairman of the Board

Hope you’re feeling better amazing Cooper

Yea, thinking of all those bugs in that sushi, and the possibility that they were what made me sick..made me more so…

I listen to pretty much anything but rap. Though I do have a certain disdain for heavy metal. Or maybe it’s Metallica that I hate and not necessarily heavy metal. I do like GNR but love Hank Williams Jr. I’m weird.
