Over canapés and cocktails,
in fashionable cocktail attire
after paying ten bucks for valet parking
it’s about Darfur darling
the incongruity of this escapes some
life is not just
I am not estranged from that fact
And I would rather be anywhere else
But here today
PEACE

I like it when you write poetry, Cooper, especially since you always know how to capture the essence of a moment just as well as you capture the essence of a thought.
Me? I always babble on and on about my point.

and as a brook babbles – worthy
Too funny and yet, somehow, not funny enough. A toast to the demilitarized Janjiweed!

It’s natural to think wtf in those situations. There will be a lot of those situations.
I like when you write your life in poetry, it’s not your pleasure I know, so pardon me for the enjoyment.

pardon granted.
These are my favorite type of post from you I always worry that you have become to…. professional and lost some of the artiness of your original posting, and then you show up again.
I like you every way don’t get me wrong I just despise seeing creative parts of people disappear into adult hood when they shouldn’t.

You sound much like my mother, both my parents really, but more so my mother.
Did you write this from your cell phone while at a cocktail party event for darfur or something?
If so it worked.

yes
Agree and disagree with Jacob. Much more sophistication than your old poetry. it’s so derivative (on purpose I’m sure) of Noel Coward or Cole Porter. Love it; love it; love it. Made my night. I’m easy.
One thing I doubt and that is that you are easy. ;)
Good stuff I say, again. I’m sure I’ve said it before. Life makes the best poetry.

Especially when it is life we write.
Hey I was able to comment!!!!

I enjoy your poetry, even though I haven’t been able to become inspired by poetry in general.
It’s more of a sesame seeded pun
split in 2, filled with a joke for fun
As for Darfur, I understand.
There’s also Liberia, Haiti, Chile..not that those are any worse. I just don’t know. I always think of tragedy as a tipping scale to heightened awareness, and emotion.
While you could be feeling guilt for what they don’t have, they may have something you don’t have that can’t be measure, or even understood.
I don’t know how we can live the way we do knowing others suffer, but we keep busy entertaining ourselves because that’s what comforts us. If I had to the power to change it all I doubt it would be the end of suffering. Only time beyond our lives will tell how this all balances out. But by then it may not even matter.

Chile is in no way in need of help the way Haiti et al, and it all has very little to do with their situation — more to do with our complicity in many of these problem even – some would say – our profit, our gain.
Anyhoo that was written, as someone suggested , while I was at a very specific event regarding Darfur and it wasn’t so much poetry as it was personal commentary on incongruity.
I don’t know if you’ve seen this documentary on Liberia but it’s definitely worth a look in my opinion.

I hope to travel their soon they do have a coast worth surfing, but undeveloped which is good.
So you. I like that over the years you keep upping the sophistication, while keeping the truth – even as your time to do so shrinks.
life is poetry is truth

Life is sometimes poetry but usually it’s just life…that is my opinion only
I wish that more people would be willing to give to charity without caring whether or not they’ve been seen giving to charity
.-= EsotericWombat´s last blog ..I swear, they aren’t all like this. =-.
weirdly enough it was not a charity event, it was an academic think tank social/educational event, it is always disconcerting when attending such because it puts in perspective that many of the very people who seem to have knowledge of any given area of the world, and the effect of our(or anyone’s) policy on that part of the world often care more about “being an expert” or being able to make policy than being able to make effective policy.
