When I began blogging in college I read a lot of political blogs, and Jon Swift’s was one of the better satires out there.
Jon Swift whose real name (unknown to many but known to some), was Al Weisel, the “reasonable conservative who liked to write about politics and culture”, the freelance writers, co-author of Live Fast, Die Young: The Wild Ride of Making Rebel Without a Cause, has passed on. According to his mother, who posted of his death on a comment in his blog, he passed on February 27th.
He had a bright, funny/smart blog, and hadn’t posted in it for some time. Interestingly enough his last post a year ago was a reference to the blog post of someone who had just experienced the death of his son.
RIP Jon Swift.
Never read political blogs. I was still posting in dead journal when you started blogging and reading.
May he RIP though. It’s strange when people you only knew of online up and die. It’s hard to know what to think.
It seems a very long time.

you probably would have liked him
It’s always surprising when you find out someone you haven’t thought of in a while has died. You kind of feel bad that it takes their passing to remind you how much time you used to spend thinking about them. At least that’s the sentiment I feel when somebody other than a close friend passes away.

death and blogging should be a book
I remember reading his blog back when he posted regularly. When he stopped it was disappointing. May he rest in peace.

At some point in time, maybe even now, the blogesphere will be filled with dead people. There is something strangely philosophical in the discussion that could be had about that situation. And we should have that discussion one night, accompanied by spirits of the other kind. ;)
