A broken wrist having kept me from snowboarding I went out this afternoon to capture a copy of Shutter Island. I dislike seeing films based on books I haven’t read, and Shutter Island looks like a must see for me.
In a week full of news of home grown terrorism in Alabama (by way of Harvard), and Texas, a week in which Tiger headed back to Buddhism (always a good call when you lose sponsorships get off track), Russia getting testy due to lack of gold, and Ron Paul winning the presidential straw poll at CPAC, I’m happy to do divert to a Saturday Old School Friday .
This week the Old School Friday Theme is, If I Could Sing, I’d Want To Sound Like.
I’d like to sound like a lot of singers, but I realize it’s unfair to choose them all, so I will choose two. I know there are better vocalists, and Brightman brings international crowds to their feet, but I am choosing skins that would fit me.
Realistically I’d be comfortable sounding like Diana Krall, a jazzy bossanovaist (not a word, I know), sitting in a smokey lounge with a large underground following. I love her.
But for aura, presence, and to bring down houses, I’d choose to be Tina Turner.
Old School Friday Themes available at Ms Marv’s.
What about you?
Peace

Excellent choices. Joe Cocker did Cry Me A River well, too. But I don’t have to dream of sounding like him. I don’t even have to dream of dancing like him. Tina Turner is a classic and I’d go to war for her.

That you’d go to war for Tina makes me happy.
Great choices. I’d like to sound like either Johnny Cash or Al Green.

Damn good choices jacob.
We intended to see “Shutter Island” but the crowd was massive, we saw “When in Rome” instead. I’m a sucker I know but it wasn’t bad. I haven’t read Shutter Island so maybe it was for the best.
I’d like to sing like Josh Groban, he makes some women cry, who wouldn’t want that power.

I like his voice but he really doesn’t give me chills or anything…
I know after reading the book this weekend I’m not as eager to see the movie. lol
I was foolishly a Ron Paul supporter, until I checked his background, and realized he’s as 2-faces as David Duke if not worse.
Again I’m feeling an overwhelming sense of cynicism.
Nothing ever really changes. The most wealthy get wealthier, and the poor get poorer. Nothing changes, but the day, and faces. Nobody really cares, so long as they’re back home in time to be entertained by nothingness to talk about, and repeat. I can’t change anything, I’m not in power, while we depend on those in power to make no changes. Every time someone points a fingers those fingers should be chopped off & fed to the hungry. I offer my fingers, first. Regrettably I have so little of any protein to offer. Besides, who cares? Let’s entertain ourselves, and forget about it….repeat…Let’s entertain ourselves and forget about it…repeat…….

I like your rather bizarre attitude Bennett.
For some reason I pictured you as more of a Joan Jett type… beautiful and sassy.
Dunno who I’d sound like, but I can do a pretty good Tiny Tim when I’m tip-toeing thru the tulips.
You know on any given day I could want to be Joan Jett or Janis Joplin or …I only got to chose 2 and I love the two I choose.
I am not a jazz fan but Diana Krall is enough to make me one. To have Tina Turner’s presence would be nice – I agree.
In man form I’m not sure who I’d choose to sound like – maybe Joe Strummer or Marvin Gaye. I could go either way.

Either would work I think.
I first heard Diana Krall on Ray Charles’ Genius Loves Company CD. I’ve been a fan ever since. I think that even though it’s Sunday now I should get in on the tardy Fridaying.

You know it’s so uncool to be on time, and as you really don’t make it a habit of being on time it shouldn’t be a deterrent.
So the coolest possible course of action is to never show up? I hope your wrist gets better quick.

Logically no, and it’s sad not to see you. I’m 3 weeks in – it’s ok.,
You want to be Krall because you want to me married to Elvis Costello, and you want to be Tina because of her legs, that and she lives in the Swiss Alps.
all good choices, you have me more hooked on Krall since posting some of her stuff here once before – I choose to sound like Mick Jagger though Mraz has such a well trained voice I might have gone that way too.

I love Elvis but I don’t feel that way about him….;)
I love that turner video.

I know
Here’s hoping the wrist gets better soon Cooper!
I’ve thought about this one for entirely too long, sorting through the list of contenders that included but was not limited to Rob Thomas, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, Larry Blackmon, and the guy who sang the Cheers theme.
But in the end for me, it all comes down to two words (one name): Simon Le Bon
Actually, now that I google it, it’s three words. Also, I wonder if in France they refer to me as Le Bone.

I love Turner and that is a great rendition of Cry Me a River. In my dreams I’d sound like Pavarotti or Plant.
