Me, Shaun White, And Weekend Notes

Evidence of the fragility of my bones came years sooner than predicted by my brother when, after being trampled by someone’s large child in the parking lot of the local ski resort on Saturday, I fell and fractured my right wrist, or distal radius as those in the know call it. So much for taking the day off from work and study to enjoy the more than predicted snowfall.

I fell on both hands, but the wrists seemed alright directly after the fall. About an hour later I realized something was wrong with my one wrist. I stayed a couple hours anyway, but on the way home I had to stop at the ER. Fortunately they now have a “you are not sick just slightly broken” section for people with minor injuries, and those people (of which I was one) get out sooner, or we are supposed to. It was 4 hours and that is considered a short stay. I had a closed reduction and application of a soft cast/splint. I am supposed to wear an arm sling for a couple of says to keep the swelling down. I see the orthopedic surgeon again on Tuesday morning. He will either hard cast it or not. I am banking on him leaving it, or putting a new soft cast on it. It doesn’t feel bad right now.

I know fracturing a wrist in the parking lot of a ski resort doesn’t make me Shaun White, but it was a good title. I’m not sure why they are making such a big thing about his chin injury, it really isn’t that big a deal considering what often happens on those boards.

I just got an email from one of my aunts, the one who went fundie many years ago. She has a winter home in Florida and is currently attending seminars in Miami on adopting Haitian children while sending emails to the family on the progress of the seminars. I think their church is like some space ship that goes around sucking in children from all over the world. I will have to see how this goes before I pass judgment on this situation.

Congratulations to Serena for winning the Australian Open. You go girl.

A favorite weekend paragraph from blogger PIPS.

Anyway, did you see that Baltimore thing, with Obama vs. 140 Douchebags? Motherfucker is gooood. These people spend their days calling him a Kenyan terrorist Communist Muslim abortion loving pervert, but when he comes over, they push each other to get his autograph.

peace

  • Sorry about your wrist. Glad it’s not keeping you from typing

One of the greatest lines in the history of lines. And even better that it’s an aunt line
Years ago I wrote “never lend anything to somebody who slept at the Dali Lama’s feet” Got an email from her granddaughter last week telling me how true that was

    • Surely there is another word for typing with one hand, and that one being bruised. I’ll have to ask Doug.

  • I hope your wrist heals quickly.

There is news just today from Haiti that 10 people from a “US Christian ministry” group were arrested for human trafficking for trying to take 30 Haitian kids out of the country illegally. Makes one think.

    • It looks like they will send them back here to stand trial. It is hard to know what they were really doing, there are so many different groups, but it is a little nasty to assume that you can go to one country and just grab up children and take them over the border without papers.

  • Sorry about the wrists at least you could have broken it on the mountain. ;)

I think there are those who honestly want to help and those who just want to gather the Christians and then there are those in the middle, it’s a hard call sometimes.

    the pips paragraph is great.

  • Are you right or left handed? I hope they heal well and soon.

I’ve been reading about the adoptions situations and also about the increased crime, and rapes of women and young girls. I say let them all go Haiti is hell. I can see potential for sex trafficking though as bad as it is world wide this situation makes it even easier I bet.

    nice comments from pits.

  • I have felt your pain. Motrin relaxed the throbbing for me. Hope you have a similar remedy handy.

The arrogance of American religious groups constantly has me shaking my head. It was, and remains, no secret that the State Dept does not want American groups to remove children from Haiti. It is not our right, despite the claims of a few that taking these kids is either part of Manifest Destiny or God’s “greater plan,” to remove children from their families.

Frankly, too many religious organizations are using some form of “save the children” to make money. And that, my friend, is a crime against humanity.

    Speedy recovery, okay?

    • I took so much motrin the first night my stomach hurt like hell.

It is the arrogance of religious groups and those not so religious at times as well. It’s good to take them and make them into what you want them to be but to help them be what they want..now that is a different story and one we often don’t like to see end their way.

  • Hope you writst heals qucikly. It could be worse. You could havwe broken both of them.

I was happy to see she won they were playing up Henin’s return so strongly.

  • I did a similar trick running around the garden chasing the kids this summer — it’s taken MONTHS to get better.

Of course if I had got it checked out instead of soldiering on, it would probably have healed far sooner.

    • Yea I use my writs too much to wait and the one hurt so bad I knew I couldn’t let it go. I may just be a wuz, but as I’ve broken myself up a lot I tend to know when to fold her.

  • I think their church is like some space ship that goes around sucking in children from all over the world.

I think that may have been an episode of South Park.

Injured and still blogging. You’re an inspiration, Miss Cooper. And the large child line got me.

  • Sorry about the wrist, Cooper. I went snowboarding once and the blows to the head alone were enough to convince me it was far too much of an injury risk to take. I’ve never broken a bone or had to have any type of invasive surgery. That’s enough of a streak to convince me I don’t want to take part in any sport where any type of injuries are a concern.

    • I had hoped my bone breaking days were oer but there is no stopping over exuberant and rude children I guess.

Anytime I have gotten hurt, even on the mountains it has been due to someone else pushing or running into me. Oh and one time falling off a four wheeler in the snow and fracturing ribs.

The only other times I have been hurt directly were while playing soccer.

Sorry to hear about your wrist. I broke my ankle a few years ago and it was the worst 3 months of my life.

  • Sorry about your accident; bad news has been coming my way in spades lately. Hope the recovery is swift and the pain minimal.

  • Surely when you fall on the parking lot of a ski resort. You drag yourself back to the slops one more time and lay in the snow just in case you are hurt.

It makes for a convincing lie and a better story. The probably should suck those kids up now before hurricane season hits and we have to here about them again.

  • We have plenty of those “space ship” churches around here. I actually know a woman who was about 4 adopted children from around the world…it almost seems that everytime a natural disaster happens, she ends up with a new child.

I hope that your wrist feels better. I’ve never broken a wrist before but I can only imagine that it’s not fun…especially if you’re tied to a computer like me.
