Old School Friday, already. Geesh. Where does the time go? Did I say Geesh? Kill me please.
The theme this week is Songs to Workout/Exercise to.
My main exercise is running. I run daily. My play-list is long and varies from week to week. My current run music on the iPod contains the following. Hail to the Thief/Radiohead, God is a DJ/Pink, Mr Bright Side The Killers/ I Get Around and Barbara Ann/ Beach Boys, Snow/ RHCP, Miss You and Paint It Black/Rolling Stones, Joga/Bjork, The Verve /Bitterweet Symphony, My First My Last My Everything/Barry White, Come As You Are/Nirvana, Mean Mr. Mustard/The Beatles, My Blakean Year/Patti Smith, and Rufus Wainwright/Across The Universe.
For Pilates, when done at home instead of the studio — where they play some kind of relaxation music — I use a toned down frenetic music.
These two songs work well for Pilates, but for those not inclined to move away from their screen, this works well in an office chair that swivels. Center, swivel left, center, swivel right, repeat. Stretching that waist a little further round each time. Plant your feet on the floor, a good pair of non slip shoes helps anchor you. You may even manage to figure out a way to get some thigh stretch in there. Please don’t do this with wired ear phones, nothing good can come of that.
So you want to know how to work the thighs without getting out of the chair too?
This next song is for those thighs. Obviously.
Strap on those ten pound ankle weights and start those leg stretches/leg lifts. You can break out in to an all out dance kick if you want, but lift that leg high. Please start with the right leg, and keep time with the music.

If I haven’t mentioned this before, you’ve got fine taste in music.

If I do say so myself.
Back when I used to have a bike, I used to start every bike ride with Billy Ocean’s Loverboy ’cause I was cool like that. Of course, back in those days all we had were portable CD players, and the second song on the CD was Shout by Tears For Fears. Not as good.
Of course, the CD also had Oh Sheila, The Miami Vice Theme, and St. Elmo’s Fire. So I would usually forward past Shout.
Thanks for the workout tips. I can’t wait to get home and try these out.

I had a portable CD player hen I was 10 or so. They didn’t wear very well. I think I went through a couple of them rather quickly.
Remember not to use those wired headphones when doing the high kicks.
Just had to shout out — “Rufus Wainright!” — genius song writer
I used to go running to all kinds of crap just to take my mind off the run… my mother in law runs marathons, and her advice to me was always that if you can take your mind of the running, you’ve half won the battle.

Get into a trance mode, the mode itself is what is addicting.
You’re right, on Rufus.
I run to different music all the time. I don’t care what it is, but it’s usually all one artist at any given time.
My desk chair doesn’t swivel. I gave it a try anyway.

Ah. A swivel chair is best.
Happy Friday Cooper.
I’ve trIED swiveling around in the chair before, trying to convince myself it does some good.
The old sixties song work well, but I can excercise to most anything.

Thought is half the battle.
Isn’t it?
My wife swears she exercises in her office. She has both leg weights and 10 pound arm weights she uses in her free time. I’m not sure if she uses music. I’ll have to ask her. Those work.
Gold is my main exercise n the warm months and no music is involved.
We removed all exercise equipment from the house when we had our first child. I use a gym where television is hooked up to the treadmills. I usually watch CNN, the Golf Channel while using the treadmill.
I like your choices though.

Oh I know plenty of people how have weights in their offices, along with Pilates bands and exercise balls.
Very interesting music play list you have there!
Thanks for the exercise tip (I do a lot of sitting)!
I like variety. Keeps me running. Something has to.
Second Doug. Mean Mr Mustard has been the second most blogged song this week – that I’ve noticed
Start Boot Camp in a week. No music

I’m glad to see the Mustard Love.
Boot Camp, you are brave my sand scrubbed friend.
I work out to silence, and ride a bike to work when I can. I can’t listen to mucic while riding. I’d more than likely get killed that way.
Good choices for leg lifts though. My chair doesn’t have arm rests. Does that matter?

Nah, go for it.
I love people who love good music! I am quite envious of your playlist…
One of these days, I am going to run…I think my spirit already does.
Rufus Wainwright?! I love you…
