I love, love, seeing Whoopi tongue twisting herself around this “it’s not rape, rape” scenario. Here she is trying to snag herself a part in the next film of the “world famous humanist” Roman Polanski.
We have it correct. He drugged a 13 year old and plied her with champagne. I’m not sure if that is rape or rape, rape, but is isn’t something a 40 year old man should be doing.
And why is Debra Winger all of a sudden trying to substantiate rumors that the Officer Gentlemen Dude dropped her on her head at some point in time?
“Despite the philistine nature of the collusion that has now occurred, we came to honor Roman Polanski as a great artist. We hope today this latest order will be dropped. It is based on a three-decade-old case that is all but dead except for a minor technicality.”
How horrible that a bunch of people think it’s wrong to fuck a 13 year old, after feeding her Quaaludes and Champagne, and they have gotten together to wreck the life of a genius who has suffered so much already.
And this, giving me my full laugh for the weekend
Imprisoned director Roman Polanski should have been warned that he faced an international arrest warrant before he arrived in Switzerland, the country’s former justice minister said Friday.
Christoph Blocher said a warning would have been fairer to the 76-year-old filmmaker.
So, what now we warn fugitives? What a joke.
Eugene, lately one of the only WAPO columns worth reading, asks in Hollywood’s Shame ,,,,,,,
Could it be that the conservative culture warriors who portray Hollywood as a cesspool of moral bankruptcy have been right all along?
He continues by saying “not really”, but thinks the culture warriors may have a point.
Yea, I know this is getting repetitive, but it’s stuck in my throat, like a dick in the throat of some half conscious teenage girl.
peace

I love it when you are mean and snarky. It lifts me out of the doldrums.
Some things are hard to release, feel free to vent. I can’t find that list” anywhere. I want to see if Robert Downey Junior signed it. Call it morbid curiosity.
.-= g´s last blog ..Working on the Weekend =-.
Not snarky. Dead serious.
Well….did he sign?
He has worked with him, he’s gotten a tad more conservative since his drug days – I read that somewhere.
I’m disappointed in her. I understand what she was trying to say, but it came out wrong, funny but wrong. The concept of “rape” and “rape rape” is hard to explain, because it’s unexpalinable. There’s just rape and she sounded like she was trying to differentiate. I think she was trying to explain the legal differecne -poorly.
Poorly indeed. She would have been better off leaving it alone.
Regardless of artistic achievements, Polanski is a man who raped a child. End. Of. Story.
I also heard that Woody Allen signed a petition to free Roman Polanski. Do you really want support from the man who married his own step-daughter?
Yeah, no. You don’t.
In a short word, yes. Polanski will accept support from every quarter, especially if it’s from an equally “misunderstood” richard.

That Woody Allen thing was no big surprise, but he raped a kid.
Shuck, Shuck, Jive. Back-pedal, back-pedal.
The Whoopi Shuffle.
This reminds me too much of one of my family reunions. I have to go curl up in a fetal position now.
.-= Geek Girl´s last blog ..I hate and I love =-.
I’m glad I am not attending one of those reunions.
Everyone has those things that get stuck in their mind, if not their throat. It’s hard to ignore those things, especially if you have a blog.
.-= john´s last blog ..The Next Americn Pundit =-.
Your right, what else is it for if not to vent.
That list of famous people, mosty directors who themselves probably dream of doing something with a 13 year old girl is not surprising.
Whoppi got herself tied up there, didn’t she. I understand how you feel about the situation. Some things just stick, for whatever reason. Can you imagine if that happened today?
.-= kait´s last blog ..Reasonable Priced Option in White and Black =-.
yeah… cannot help but wonder how many of those directors practice casting calls on the couch?

Make you feel kind of icky, doesn’t
it.
That clip was painful to watch.
Whatever happened to Debra Winger anyway?
.-= jacob´s last blog ..What In The World Was This Guy Thinking? =-.
It was painful. I never really knew her except from old movies. Obviously she is still around signing petitions.
Yes, he is a great filmmaker who has suffered greatly in his life, but he is also a criminal who caused a 13 year old to suffer greatly.
The defense of Polansky is a pathological example of the oft-repeated mantra that great-artists often must live outside of the moral codes of society.
This was often quite true when Western societies operated under very strict codes around race, gender, sex, sexuality, religion, class, and family and the slightest deviation could be regarded as scandalous. However, that was generations ago, and the fight for sexual freedom; is not the fight for sexual violence.
Unless Polansky’s apologists are willing to vocally defend similar crimes committed by non-celebrities outside the creative community, they need to remove themselves from this debate.
.-= Ian Thal´s last blog ..Yes, I Over-Reacted =-.
I’ll settle for my “great artists” giving in to the the drink, or the needle, and holding off their carnal knowledge of females until they are of age, and free of substances which cloud their judgment.
I had mentioned earlier in he week how Roman Doe would not be getting such treatment, now, nor would he have gotten such a ridiculously lean sentence then.
The obfuscation that is occurring between the issue of him fleeing the having sex with a minor charge – the charge he was blessed with due to his fame and past situation, and the possible judicial misconduct, would be hilarious if it weren’t so pathetic.
Whoopi’s obfuscation may or may not have been intentional, and there is a valid complaint that law enforcement didn’t take it serious all these years, so why now.
Having said that, how dare he and his supporters assume such a privilege.
enjoy your weekend coop
Trying to make people feel they are wrong for not seeing the wrong done to him all those years ago is….well…..wrong.
Good lord but you can be brutal in your visualization. I love it. Too bad I am unable to get you near Polanski while you have that paddle in your hands.
.-= sauerkraut´s last blog ..National Parks at great risk from climate change =-.
Brutal is such a brutal word. i like to think of it as……fair.
“Yea, I know this is getting repetitive, but it’s stuck in my throat, like a dick in the throat of some half conscious teenage girl.”
Brilliant, and understandable. I might use this quote?

48-y.o. band instructor arrested for sexual contact with a 10-y.o. student. This in the same school district in which Bush41 spoke about 4 years ago (but which refused to air Obama’s speach to school students).
Wonder if this guy will get support from Debra Winger? Afterall… it’s all consensual, right? Who cares if he’s in his 40′s and she’s… young.
If it’s wrong for a band instructor, why isn’t it wrong for Polanski?
.-= sauerkraut´s last blog ..National Parks at great risk from climate change =-.
We know that answer to that already.
I just went to the Simon Wiesenthal Museum here in L.A.
The spirit of the righteous, undying hunter seems to be the current theme for me.
That’s some metaphor to end with. Not an inapt one. I don’t hate Roman Pulanski, but a terrible crime ought to punished. I don’t see why this is so hard.
.-= Doug´s last blog ..The Reformation of Wolfshausen =-.
Yes but ” the legal minds are concerned”. “WHY DIDN’T THEY PICK HIM UP ALL THOSE YEARS” they question. A good question to be sure, but totally unrelated to the the fact of the crime and his flight.
I agree. As the former President used to say, we fight an enemy who hides. Duh.
.-= Doug´s last blog ..War =-.
That last sentence.
Euwwwaaaa….
I really don’t believe Hollywood is that cohesive, but rather those that stick together because they want work.
I’m strongly opposed to anything involving sex with minors.
Many of these “artist” types are given a free pass, but out of curiosity what has happened to this 13 year old?
Is she living on a back alley some where, shooting up heroin?
While all of this focus is being centered on the old bastard, is the true tragedy of this getting any real focus?
.-= Bennet´s last blog ..Sell Some Crazy For The Hazy =-.
She really wants to be left alone, she settled with him for a tidy sum some years ago. Some feel she says he should be forgiven yet seriously drugging and having sex with a minor is something the state needs to prosecute. His fame protected him, you’d still be rotting in jail, most likely, Bennet. That is the travesty.
Saw something somewhere where Polanski did not fhonor his end of the settlement. She took him to court a dozen years ago over his not paying on the $500,000 settlement. With interest included, he apparently now owes her about $605k.
Yes, he has suffered so.
.-= sauerkraut´s last blog ..National Parks at great risk from climate change =-.
I simply DO NOT understand how anyone can justify having sex with a 13-year-old. Add to the having sex part, he drugged her and got her drunk!
Forgiveness is not the same as paying for what you did. Forgive him if you want, but make his ass pay for RAPING that child.
And I am sooo disappointed in Whoopi; she is usually the sane one of the View bunch; but this shit here is making me think that she has finally drank whatever everyone else is drinking.
Hey, maybe they slipped her some Quaaludes…
.-= Marvalus´s last blog ..Tyler Perry =-.
There is no justification Marv.
Nothing I’ve ever heard/read/seen about The View gives me even the slightest desire to ever watch it.
And the streak continues…
I’ve never watched day time telly. How fortunate the internet has evolved to the point we can see non-stop video clips from shows we never would have otherwise watched, and don’t give a damn about. This is what freedom is Bone.
It’s still rape.
.-= Chris´s last blog ..Horrific Numbers =-.
And it always will be.
I think if we focused on real rape–such as what Roman Polanski did and stopped moralizing on every celebrity’s sex life, we and young girls would understand the severity of what he did
I’m finding that most men I know–straight, “regular” were so ready to hang David Letterman they didn’t even care about Polanski. Something warped about that and I was going to do a post on it and still will but life got in the way
I admit if Polanski had raped the day after his wife and unborn child were killed I might have a bit of sympathy
You’re lucky that you don’t have that personal remembrance. Still statutory rape is rape no matter if she thinks he suffered enough and if people think he’s too brilliant
People find it strange that I’ve never seen the View or any daytime TV unless it’s a historic event or I’m somewhere with the TV blaring and can’t turn it off
.-= pia´s last blog ..A grey and dreary day but I get over my hatred of days like this for today because…. =-.
Just keep that daytime telly off. Some tings my parents told me were actually more than correct. Most things, now that I think about it.
I thought that Whoopi Goldberg was smarter than that. Then again, now that I think of it, most of my memory of her comes from seeing her on Sesame Street a number of times.
I can see the merit in drawing a distinction between statutory rape and coercive (not the best adjective to use to make a distinction I know but I’ve got nothing better) or violent rape–so many states have policy in place that brands people as rapists who clearly don’t deserve the label– but this is utterly uncalled for
It’s almost impossible to see it as anything other than Whoopi standing up for a fellow famous person.
.-= EsotericWombat´s last blog ..Only in the United States Senate =-.
It’s kind of ridiculous they dismissed all charges but the charge in California which is basically statuary rape, given that he gave her Qualudes and champagne. But yes that was a little disappointing to see Whoopi say that. I saw her is Sister Act, and I’ve caught some of her old routines and she was in Ghost. I had that video when it was a video and I was really small. I have seen The View, once or twice, it is enough to make your skin peel.
There’s something so pathetic about this running away. Polanski should stand up and take the consequences for his actions. The thing to do actually would have been to appear in court earlier this year, at the request to dismiss the case. It’s hard to respect someone who runs away, and this he continues to do each day that he fights extradition.
The artistic elite = cowards.
whoopi, your a piece of shit!
