Poetaster Pickles Peppers, Feeds Birds, and Pays The Price For Barely Speeding

In case your dying to know.

This weekend I:

Received a “GOTCHA” speeding on camera ticket in the mail. MoCo makes a killing on these. I’m usually good at avoiding them in MoCo, and along with them the cameras in the District — most of which are red light cameras anyway.

I was less then a mile from the county line (no cameras in either of the counties north of MoCo, yet), traveling home on a heavily trafficked off highway, and listening to the Blues Brothers version of the Peter Gunn Theme, when I saw the flash. Nothing to do but keep my fingers crossed. To no avail. The postman arrived, rang twice, and voila my ticket. I went directly to their online payment site, a site with one of the longest url’s I’ve ever had the privilege of typing, and paid forty something bucks.

I was driving with the flow of traffic, evidently at about 10 miles above the speed limit, pretty common on that single lane road. It’s safe to say you risk a rear end collision if you don’t go with the flow of traffic there, and because of that I assume there were another 500 tickets given out that afternoon, and by my estimate another twenty five grand made that day, off that camera alone. Good for you Montgomery County, you can pay for a lot of things with that money.

We had tornadoes, seriously what’s up with that? The foul weather occured the same evening I was making pickles and pickled peppers. I made only a small batch, but you can view the masterpieces at Should Be Famous: My Pickles and Pickled Peppers. I may be a poetaster, but I’m a reputable pickler.

I finally got a cheap finch feeder. It took a couple of days for those suckers to get the hint, but finally they came. I wasn’t been able to get a good shot, because when they didn’t show up at first I didn’t think they were coming, and I wasn’t prepared. The few shots I got are through the dirty not cleaned this week window, with a manual lens. This morning I was heading out to run when I noticed four of them, they dispersed immediately, but I think I have four regular customers now.

FINCH

The rest of the weekend falls under my usual nondisclosure policy.

Peace

  1. My grandmother used to feed finches, she used to pickle things too, including eggs and beats – they were gross. You don’t remind me much of her, she would never need a nondisclosure policy.

Great way to make millions, those cameras. Sorry about the ticket. I saw photos of the tornados, they were the real thing.

  2. That’s ok. Any finches reading read what they needed to read.

  3. That’s what it feels like, a gotcha. And what’s with those postmen always ringing twice?

I never knew there was such a thing as picked peppers. Cool.

  4. Nondisclosure policy?

Wait, so feeding finches, pickling peppers, and speeding wasn’t your entire weekend?

I’m feeling a bit disillusioned now.

    • Surely you have one of those Bone? A non disclosure policy I mean.

There’s usually something a tad more worthy of a non disclosure policy.

  5. Love your tude about the tickets. I feel the same way about my extra taxes but I’m not sure that my bank account will be so nonchalant–it likes more money

    • There’s not much to do about but drive slower next time. Plus god knows the interest rate on it is probably near thirty percent.

  6. You don’t get points on your license for them here so you’re safe, but they purposefully put them in those areas.

That poetaster thing got me off track. I had to look it up. I was a marketing major, and the things you don’t learn when your have an MBA could fill hundreds of books.

What is it with those twice ringing postmen anyway?

We have a hummingbird feeder, never thought of a finch feeder.

    • No, no points. Probably why I paid it so fast.

The yellow is easier to see, those hummingbirds are so small and buzz around like bees, most of the time I miss them.

  7. Those are terrible. Nothing but revenue generators. We have them in construction zones here and I can see wanting people to slow down for that, but on open highways they’re pointless.

  8. Sauerkraut loved the little birdies… the new one, however, knows how to hunt them little suckers down. So I hoisted the bird feeder higher.

We’ve got a different problem now. A red shouldered hawk has discovered the new kittie.

    • I don’t consider going ten miles over the limit when that is really the standard speed on the road actually going over the speed limit….. or I used to not.

  10. Those cameras take the lead of of the foot, that is for sure.

The pickles look good, are they sweet or sour?

Birds have such a nice life.

  11. I tried to put a url in and it didn’t show up, only your url showed up. I can’t be blocked because I’ve not added a url in the past?

If it weren’t for the lack of concern over the speeding ticket all this pickling and bird feeding would lead me to believe you’d been domesticated some since the last time I was here.

  12. I love that bird, and am jealous of the pickled things. I make a great lasagna though.

    • They are good too, but I have a weakness for vegetable lasagna and garlic bread.
It’s sad, but without a dog the birds are like the my pets. The hazard of work and school and not being home I guess.

  13. Pickles and birds. You have been corrupted cooper.

btw I want to comment on the post with comments off. pissing me off.
