Be Still My Beating Heart On Old School Friday

July 31st, 2009 by cooper

It’s old school Friday, and the theme this week is My First Love.

I’d love to put something sexy hot and personal here. I want to keep my job more. Though you’d be right to point out there are certainly things posted here, dangerous mindless posts, written long ago while prone on the floor of a college dorm, not representative of where I’m at now, that would surely be forgiven by those who would snoop into archives to investigate my virtue. Nevertheless, it’s best I keep my current posting as innocent as a baby, forgoing the music I think of when I think of my first “real love”, and along with it the sordid tale that would out of necessity have to accompany it.

For the sake of respectability I’ll reminisce on my very first love, Daemon. The love affair between us was long, as love affairs go. It began when I was in the later part of my 3rd year, almost 4 years old. I loved him because he had video games, and I wanted to play them. From The Legend of Zelda to The Ocarina of Time, I was a tiny video game addict player, always sneaking across the sandy grass to Daemon’s house to play Mario, and Zelda. These were the first two video games I played, and along with the original Final Fantasy and Tetris, the only ones.

Daemon moved to mainland Australia when I was around 8. Truth be told, it was a relief to get rid of that little creep. He had transformed over time from a rather pleasant non threatening 4 year old into a rather tyrannical 8 year old, demanding change and candy for video game time. Fortunately, by the time Daemon moved I had, with help from my brother, cajoled my parents into purchasing our own stock of the very best, non mind distorting, video games around.

Here’s to you Daemon, where ever you may be.

The music from the The Legend of Zelda, and others in the Zelda series. Much of it written by Koji Kondo.

A nice violin presentation of the music, Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This is pretty spectacular.

You dirty girl. Actually, Trixie from Speed Racer was mine. I think that’s why I’ve always modeled myself after chim chim.

Hell, I’m going back to read the archives now.

That song makes me smile as my youth flashes before me. Life was simpler then.

    So were video games.

My first love was Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell. Forreal. I was in first grade and he was a freshman on tv. It was love at first sight.

That is almost as scary as the elevator thing above. ;)

Who wouldn’t love a freshman when they are in 3rd grade though.

  5. That’s a cute story. It has me grinning from ear to ear.

The violin concerto is nice cooper, I remember the first or 2nd Zelda, I was 12 or 13 or so around that time. I played Mario, Mario Cart and Zelda and the music makes me smile.

You starting at 4 gives me a greater understand ing of your breadth and depth of knowledge. ;)

So you’ve estimated that maintaining an air of decency is more important than being a force of change for acceptance?

    Damn Damn Damn.…

It’s okay. I don’t know what my first love was. Too many to keep track of since a few days ago much less years.

We only had Zelda, Mario, Tetris, and later Donkey Kong. After that I also lost interest.

The music is pretty good when you think about it, and like you anything else is best left for other places, not a blog.

You are a dirty girl :) That’s why we love you; innocence of current posts and all.

My first love would come to my house to play dolls and I would go to his house to play with toy guns – ah kindergarten there’s nothing like that

I had discovered my mistake before I read your post. Kind of came to me in my sleep

The post made me laugh. Only you’d post something like this under a first love theme.

I loved me some Zelda back in the day. I played with my mother, because she had me on a limited pre-school video game schedule. I know when she sent me to bed she continued to play.

Given your special relationships with Phelps over the years I see your point.
If only you’d gone into another field you’d be able to write those “other type” posts.

A very creative way to present the theme cooper. Wasn’t Daemon the Omen child?

The anticipation I felt when hearing that music at age 4 is all coming back to me now.

    Thanks

I loved the princess Zelda, I was her prince. Might be where all that nonsense begins, video games in which the one getting rescued is always a princess, never a prince.

I was late to the whole Zelda thing — the first Zelda game I ever played was Wind Waker on the Gamecube, and it spoiled me (although Ocarina of Time on the SNES was very good too — we bought a user SNES specifically to play it) :)
