Wonderland or Not

It’s old school Fri­day, and the theme this week is My First Love.

I’d love to put something sexy hot and per­so­nal here. I want to keep my job more. Though you’d be right to point out there are cer­tainly things pos­ted here, dan­ge­rous mind­less posts, writ­ten long ago while prone on the floor of a college dorm, not repre­sen­ta­tive of where I’m at now, that would surely be for­gi­ven by those who would snoop into archi­ves to inves­ti­gate my vir­tue. Neverthe­less, it’s best I keep my current pos­ting as inno­cent as a baby, for­going the music I think of when I think of my first “real love”, and along with it the sor­did tale that would out of neces­sity have to accom­pany it.

For the sake of res­pec­ta­bi­lity I’ll remi­nisce on my very first love, Dae­mon. The love affair bet­ween us was long, as love affairs go. It began when I was in the later part of my 3rd year, almost 4 years old. I loved him because he had video games, and I wan­ted to play them. From The Legend of Zelda to The Oca­rina of Time, I was a tiny video game addict pla­yer, always snea­king across the sandy grass to Daemon’s house to play Mario, and Zelda. These were the first two video games I pla­yed, and along with the ori­gi­nal Final Fan­tasy and Tetris, the only ones.

Dae­mon moved to main­land Aus­tra­lia when I was around 8. Truth be told, it was a relief to get rid of that little creep. He had trans­for­med over time from a rather plea­sant non threa­te­ning 4 year old into a rather tyran­ni­cal 8 year old, deman­ding change and candy for video game time. For­tu­na­tely, by the time Dae­mon moved I had, with help from my brother, cajo­led my parents into purcha­sing our own stock of the very best, non mind dis­tor­ting, video games around.
