I Started A Joke On Old School Friday

June 12th, 2009 by cooper

Recently my life has been like the The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and it’s not because my life is literally like the The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. No, it’s because a few months ago I misplaced both a segment of my life and the book, the book with one chapter to go, my life with the current chapter not yet complete. I knew the book was around somewhere, temporarily unavailable, the chapter of my life momentarily supervenient. Certain the losses were temporary, no frantic search was conducted. The Excedrin provoking AWOL light did burn on both accounts, but it wasn’t the brightness which caused the discomfort, it was the nagging ghosts of the mislaid.

All is well that ends well. I recovered both the book and the slice of my life. That they were found at the same time may or may not be central to any great life theme, but it did prompt these paragraphs.

It is Old School Friday and the theme is “keep it in the family”.

Technically not old school, if you haven’t heard these guys live and can, do so. You will love me for it. Robert Randolph and the Family Band . Not all family, but close enough.

Their version of Billy Jean.

I sometimes wonder (not often I’m not that lame) when watching this Staying Alive video, which Gibb I would have claimed for my own, had I been alive and 12 at the time this video was made. It definitely would not have been the dude in the high wasted white pants.

Probably would have been Robin.

Family Gibb on Old School Friday. I Started a Joke.

Wow. Robert Randolph and Family cooks. Are you sure they aren’t all family?

They are family, but with random extra musicians here and there some famous some not so much. Largely they are family. Robert sometime plays alone for other musicians and sometimes well known vocalist will perform with them or he with them.

They were around the village a lot my first couple of years of college.

Be still my heart, Robert Randolph.

Come to Delaware in July, if I’m still here. They’ll be on the river, Delaware City.

A piece of my life has been missing for longer, lucky you found your piece, I’m still looking. Can’t wait till the pieces come together.

You are not a falsetto kind of girl but the white pants aren’t you either. Isn’t Robin Gibb dead?

Thanks for the Randolph. I’d take Robin over the “dude” in the white pants too, I think that’s Barry. The other one died.

I’m happy you got that piece of your life and your book back. We all misplace pieces of our lives and books once in awhile. I’ve never thought of you as one to be losing much of anything though. Good to know. I think it’s healthy. ;)

I’m not a big fan of the BeeGees, but I enjoyed that one.
    Enjoyed the Billy Jean too.

Again, I have nothing to complain about. Rare, I know.

Oh, I did find it interesting that as I bitched about Fox News earlier this week, there was that shooting at the Holocaust Museum, which the News echoed some of my worries about paranoid people taking on extreme irrational behavior fueled by hate mongering.
    That’s all.

I’m not a fan of them either, technically, but that clip is part of history — or so I’m told.

Your foresight in amazing ;), but it did happen before — the conservative crazies tend to come out when the conservatives are not in power but there is no converse crazy liberal coming out when the conservatives are in power at least not the murdering rampage kind. I think liberals have s constant low level crazy, the conservatives are dangerous wing bat crazy.

You’ve inspired me to commit myself to learning all the lyrics to Stayin’ Alive. It’s always sorta been on my bucket list anyway. I’m tired of being at sporting events and having to fake like I know all the words when they play that song.

  10. jakeNo Gravatar says:

Randolph plays around here more than most places, he’s a Jersey man.

    Three cheers for the falsetto.

I like the losing life losing book simile.

I never liked the bee gees but when I listen here I change my mind, they weren’t half bad, in a bee gee-ish way. Randolph, alone or with the band, is awesome.

I’ve never listened to R Randolph, that was good. I always liked that old Staying Alive video, just not the clothing. He looks like a ballet dancer or something.

If I could find those pieces lost pieces of life as easily as I find lost books I’d be lucky.
