I Me Mine

The banality of the inter webs, an increasing finding, with the thousands of bloggers starting to blog every day, all saying the same thing over and over again, not knowing that some of what they say has been said six months ago by someone else, and even then it had already been posted 5 years ago by the guy whose been blogging for ten years. Yikes. yawn.

Thank goodness you people are here to give me words and talk dirty to me. Otherwise I’d be taking my banal ass off into the sunset.

I’m doing two summer session classes both in different sessions, and working. Once I’ve completed my one year stint in the public policy arena I may be leaving, I haven’t decided yet. I have a week or so before that decision must be made. I’m also teaching an ESL class. I was sucked in when friend of mine developed a program here which offers not only ESL, but Spanish as a second language. Given that this county has an ever increasing Hispanic population, and the county commissioners and the sheriff’s department (yea sheriff’s on the East Coast, I know it’s hard to believe) seem determined to persecute Hispanics, riling up every red neck in this red county in a blue state, she thought it would be great to offer not only English to those who don’t speak it but Spanish to those who might be interested.

She has been working on this for some time, and obtained her own funding. The response has been very good. A lot of people, those who probably do a lot of complaining about “the other” infestation are taking these classes. The op-ed. If you can speak it you are not as likely to hate it, you are more likely than not to feel empowered by it, and not as likely to feel threatened by those who speak it. When you are not threatened your hate level goes down. We can hope can’t we? Not to teach them how they can’t be threatened by those without power, or to teach them they have all the unearned power by virtue of their race, heritage and history, this is a mere drop in the bucket, but it’s her drop and I’m happy to sacrifice all my free time to be part of it. ;) The program involves partnering as well, and for not quite two weeks in I’m enjoying it. I am only doing one class three days a week late afternoon for six weeks. Not sure if I’ll work the second session. The program, hopefully, will go on to produce not only some fine English speaking Hispanics but some fine Spanish speaking redneck county Marylander’s.

Shout out to The Amoeba, of the dynamic duo of OC and the Quill, for a reminder about this awesome song. According to the man who penned it, George Harrison, about “the ego, the eternal problem”.

Well, that’s enough about me. What about you?

  • That is not what I meant when I said talk dirty, but we have a waiting list for dogs if you’d like to sign up. I can leash you and you could sit at my feet.

  • You had me going there for the first 2 paragraphs. I wanted more of that. There is alot of the sameness on the internet and it sucks reading the same thing over and over. Keep up your original spin on things and you will be alright.

    • Yea except in general talking about blogging even if the talk is spectacular is a tedious and somewhat dull subject.

  • I can see the Dawg sitting at your feet. You’d have a bit of a hassle with that leash, though …

James Thurber, in 1933, wrote of his concern that “… a piece he has been working on for two days was done much better and probably more quickly by Robert Benchley in 1924.” The difference between then and now is that Thurber worried about it.

A sheriff in these Untied States, I was surprised to learn some years ago, is the CEO of a county, equivalent to the mayor of a city or the governor of a state. Don’t know how come sheriffs got to be Smokies while mayors and governors turned into suits. And yeah, they’re in the East, but when every inch of a county is taken up by some mayor’s city or other, there’s not much for them to do. Sheriffs are quite visible in Maine, where, despite the population explosion, there are still large stretches of land that are unoccupied except by the trees and the rocks and the moose. A few more degrees of global warming, and they might even be habitable.

    Thanks for the shoutout!

    • They are all over this place, not 45 minutes from D.C. I have a city police and the sheriff and his group of whatever they are called. A scary bunch, usually designated to high school dances where they arrest the guy whose drank the fifth of vodka before he entered even though he wasn’t driving…they now stalk Hispanics with the support of their Chief and the county commissioner who has a new proposal every day regarding people who do no speak English.

  • i want to teach English to the French but I don’t speak French, I have learned much Russian of the coast, it is more difficult than Spanish so fluency for me is not an option.

Someone not aware that you’ve been alright for years?

About me? I’m glad you asked.

Feeling better, work at 6, surf sucks, the weekend will be hell. Happy Memorial Day, gotta go.

    I Me Mine, perfect.

  • Yes, people blogging about the same thing, repeatedly, while others gather the same conclusions, and blog about that.
I think I’ve blogged about that as well which I deduce is what any social organism might do. T’is the natural form of social consciousness.
    Heat dispersing, and spreading.

I need new material. I need a vacation. Perhaps I should become inebriated in my quest to seek ultimate randomness.

  • There’s only two types of classes I’ve ever come close to failing. Handwriting and Foreign Languages. I have this theory that everyone in the world actually speaks English from birth. In addition, they tend to obfuscate this fact when outed English speakers came around as to perpetuate the conspiracy of feigned ignorance. Not only that, but it’s my theory that English was spoken from day one on this planet. I’m talking about the first caveman uttering not only, “Hello,” but an accompanying, “and how are we doing this morning?” to his cave neighbor.

But I do agree your friend’s cause seems noble so I won’t begrudge you your wanting to assist with yet another “fake” language, Cooper. LOL

  • Oh to be young again, and full of energy, ambition and good will.

That is a great song. We are so self centered. This weekend will be all me and mine. My house to clean, my lawn to mow, my car to wash, my wives car to wash, my son to take to a baseball game and parade, my weeds to pull and so on and so forth. ;)

I have a few weeks in the country, I’ll take my turn at dirty talk.
