To Soporific Feasts and Good Gin

April 11th, 2009 by cooper

Running for the Congo Women early in the morning, spending the rest of the day cleaning. The nocuous living conditions here must end. The place has fallen to ruin, undeterred by the Easter break I’ve been on since Thursday. I haven’t done a thing around here, and surprisingly neither have my temp housemates. What’s up with that?

The term is winding down. I’m tired, exhausted really. I’m heading to Miami next weekend for a conference. I hope to catch up with my mother after that, she’ll be on the gulf side somewhere
playing a golf tournament with 7 of her friends. That’s another “what’s up with”. My mother only started playing golf a year ago, she always played tennis but never really was much of a golfer, now she is going to play a four day “tournament” with 7 other women? She suggested I fly or drive over on her dime after the conference for a couple days, she’ll fly in early and we could have a couple of days together, getting massages and facials. She might even buy me a twin set, (see I’m Not That Kind Of Girl circa 3/07), if I’m good. ;)

I’m considering the offer, and may give in. A couple of good massages might get me through the rest of the term, and it’s not like all my work is not already in volumes on my laptop. I’m sure I’ll come up with several different ways to justify this one. I’m so happy not to be asked to justify not celebrating a religious holiday of a religion I don’t practice that my justification mojo is going to be much stronger.

I’m heading to the coast early Sunday morning with a few friends. We’re going to eat at a restaurant a friend recently helped open, and where he currently tends bar. We’ll eat late and proceed to close the bar, which will require him drive us back to our hotel. Don’t think for a minute this won’t be fun, it will. Don’t be disappointed. I’m only human after all, and though not a drinker routinely, in the company of good friends, and hopefully good food of the vegetable variety, all things are go.

Here’s wishing you all a soporific feast and good gin this weekend. Please do not talk politics or religion with your family, or at your friends bar. It makes for excessive rage, and you know what they say.

Immodica ira creat insaniam.

peace

Such plans. Wow.I usually don’t fit such an advanced schedule.

Today I’m going to spray paint dog poo pink through out the neighborhood, which I suspect will bring joy to many families for Easter.

    Take Care, have fun

Two days in advance is not much of an advance schedule. Oh the other stuff is school that is always advanced the mother thing is tentative.

At some point you’ll have to give up the secret and let us know what subject you study/work/go to conferences for. Meanwhile, enjoy the holiday and don’t be too hard on your poor mother/liver.

The only thing I have to say about Easter is god bless the Cadbury Eggs , they are awful but I can eat them until I throw up. Our family gatherings are mild, they consist of games played outdoors and food. Once in awhile someone will mention politics or religion, then they get the dirty stare from someone else and that is nipped in the bud.

My excessive rage stems from the golf channel not covering the early rounds live because it started on major network at 3:30. Other than that I’m good.
Rained like a bitch this morning, i don’t envy that run.

Enjoy feast and friend alike. The sun just peaked through the clouds here. I have hope.

Fear not, with all the protestant neocons around these parts, talking religion or politics is a dangerous venture. I much prefer to hike on a wet cliff while wearing flip-flops.

I love these glimpses into the life of Cooper – with your mother thrown in, I’m in heaven

I have been thrown off golf courses all across the US and in two other continents. I used to be angry that the most beautiful places to walk were reserved for golfers – and ones who are able bodied but use carts are still useless to me

I’m beginning to understand it’s a sport you can master later in life, and be surrounded by beauty so.…

My b-i-l was going to give up tennis (as too hard on an aging body) for golf but he threw out his knee playing golf so it’s still tennis

I can’t believe anyone can throw there knew playing golf but it seems common. I prefer tennis but golf is a mind game so…might be fun.

Those temp housemates are starting to turn permanent.

You are absolutely correct about talking politics with family. Going back home this weekend I made it a point not to talk politics. Instead we talked about how the Cardinals are going to win the World Series this year!

Yea both are staying until June now one might actually stay next year, I actually own the place, so for me it’s the ability to have give a grad student very cheap housing and as it turns out we are fairly compatible. My friend Kait will move out this summer to be closer to her work.

Am I the only one who thought “twin set” meant your mother might buy you some sheets?

The story of my mother buying me clothes is a long and ugly one. And quite painful.

    • cooperNo Gravatar says:

Probably not the only one at all. I am fond of reading painful stories about mother’s buying clothing for their children.

Here’s to hoping you had a great weekend and the best Gin you could afford. I like the glimpses too.
