First Iowa, Then Vermont, And Now The American Idol, It’s A Mad World

A Tuesday night bit. The Standing O’s.

First Iowa:

“You guys don’t understand. You’ve already lost. My generation doesn’t care.”
—-
“No, Senator McKinley, I will not co-sponsor a leadership bill with you.”

Gronstal blocks amendment to reverse Iowa marriage equality
Great theater, if you haven’t seen it, which is highly unlikely I know, check it out.

HT Jacob, and a thousand others.

Then Vermont:
Vermont legalizes gay marriage with veto override

Now, for certain, The American Idol:

I do whatever I can to stay away from Idol or anything like it, but I have two roommates living with me until the end of May, and as soon as I heard this blasting out of the living room I had to go in and listen. I’ve always loved this song, always preferring the Gary Jules Donnie Darko version. This worked for me.

So yeah, a day of the standing O.

I get so choked up and teary eyed over this stuff, I was born in Vermont, I eat corn from Iowa, and I live in America.

peace

  1. I posted this the day the decision came down:

“Here’s a random fact: I did my 6th grade state report on Iowa while I was at St. Rita’s. Ever since then I’ve had a strange obsession with keeping up with what’s been going on there (kind of like how I am with Canada too). Now every time I hear Iowa make the national news, my ears always perk up, especially if its good news.

And today was really good news.”

  2. A day of standing O’s indeed…I watched that Gronstal vid and almost teared up…if only they all could connect with their souls that way, huh?

I, of American Idol viewership, will declare that if this dude does not win, AI should go up in flames and be pushed off the face of the earth. Absolute fabulousness is he!

  3. Wow. I have been told I’m not American because I don’t watch American Idol. If I knew everybody would sound like him…Incredible

I have a friend who is from Iowa and another who went to the Iowa Writing Program when it was the only truly great writing program in the country. Does that count?

That must be a south Carlina thing, they would never tell you that in NYC. ;0

  4. The Gronstal vid was great theater and the quotes are classic, not to mention right. The old guard is struggling to maintain control, when Texas falls let me know.

I can’t believe you off all people actually posted an AI video, you better get rid of those roommates, fast.

Damn fine performance. I’d buy that.
    If I had any money.

  5. That’s a great song.

I missed AI last night. (Sorry, I tell myself not this year. But I usually get sucked in once it reaches the final 12.) He definitely has a ton of talent. And appears to be the judges’ favorite, too.

  6. I know my girlfriend is in love with Adam, gay or not, some things just can’t be topped.
Gronstal did a good job making his kid proud with that I bet.
