Storming the Bastille, You Never Give Me Your Money

Sunday annoyances: Many today but primary AIG.

Chief Executive Edward Liddy told Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in a letter dated Saturday that the next payments to employees of the financial products unit — whose woes caused massive losses at the giant insurer — are due on Sunday, and added “quite frankly, AIG’s hands are tied.”

AIG to Pay $450 Million in Bonuses

Though not a prison, these people are much like the Bastille, an impenetrable fortress, corrupt, and in need of a good storming. The prisoners, in this case “we the people”, housed in the real world outside the fortress, must not be fearful of storming the Bastille. Calling, writing, and protesting on our legislators doors, will do in a pinch.

I have, after careful consideration, changed my mind on many issues. This, I’m sure, is only the beginning.

Eh, it happens. For years, swayed by rumor passed down through generations, originating with my mother’s cousin Stephen and various experts throughout the world, I thought John Lennon was the only decent song writer in the Beatles.

You Never Give Me Your Money – Listen WM

You never give me your money
You only give me your funny paper
and in the middle of negotiations
you break down

I never give you my number
I only give you my situation
and in the middle of investigation
I break down

Out of college, money spent
See no future, pay no rent
All the money’s gone, nowhere to go
Any jobber got the sack
Monday morning, turning back
Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go
But oh, that magic feeling, nowhere to go
Oh, that magic feeling
Nowhere to go
Nowhere to go

One sweet dream
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we’ll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream came true… today
Came true… today
Came true… today…yes it did
One two three four five six seven,
All good children go to Heaven

15 Thoughts on “Storming the Bastille, You Never Give Me Your Money

  1. Great song for the time. I’m getting my taxes together and committing verbal suicide. Then I remember everything’s relative and lots of crooks conspired to make this mess

I was always a George girl myself but that was based on my not being able to stomach John despite his brilliance. George was cooler
Paul was the “cute” one. It was only later that people realized just how sharp he is

Lately I have enjoyed John more because I no longer care about the absurd things he did. I have almost gotten into physical altercations with many people because of my absurd dislike of him–he epitomized everything that was wrong with hippies to me and I believed that when i was 18 and passed as one

You know that you’re going to change your beliefs constantly but your core values will always remain

  2. What can I say. I thought my weekend was shot when Maryland lost to Duke, and Tiger fell back at Doral.

They will try to fool you about everything, in order to be cool you might agree with them temporarily, hence John Lennon is the only good songwriter…. but a thinking man will piece it all together eventually. It usually doesn’t happen to one so young.

I’m sending you my son, when the time is right, be his Yoda. ;)

  3. Very good choice of a song. I think we are more like whores for AIG. They use us, do whatever they want with us and we keep putting out. It’s a dirty business and one day the people will hopefully cut them off.

  4. Live and learn.

Storming the Bastille, now why didn’t I think of that. Makes me fee good even in a miserable situation.

Never gave this song much thought, but it’s incredibly good if you pay attention to it.

  5. Well said. I’d like to storm something. Am I too lazy? Maybe, but collective anger can be quite motivating.

Marshall says it here..reffering to the statement Liddy sent to Geitner.

It’s the great divide, or disconnect.

“Few exchanges have so captured the disconnect that makes this situation so politically explosive. We’re collectively taking our country’s future in our hands, spending vast sums of money to keep these companies from suffering the consequences of their own folly and (in many cases) criminality. And in return we’re receiving cavalier dictates about pay-outs and bonuses from executives who by any reasonable measure work for us — dictates we promptly accede to.

    “Breaking News”

“President Obama says he will “pursue every legal avenue to block these [AIG] bonuses and make the American taxpayers whole.”

    Lennon, McCartney, it’s all good.

  7. My Dad, big Beatles buff, always preferred McCartney to Lennon. At least in their post-Beatle recordings.

Personally, I always enjoyed George Harrison’s “Got My Mind Set On You.”

  8. Never cared for John until after Chapman went nuts on him. After that, I discovered I no longer liked McCartney. Well, didn’t like his newer music.

Ringo was always a no no, I don’t do that no more type of guy.

George was always the cool one. Had a rough couple of years near the end tho. But his stuff is timeless.
