As much as I dislike Valentine’s Day I love matchmaking.
Some of you know I have claimed three successful matches.
One couple is living in a vineyard in California, one is living in Italy, though I expect them back this summer, and one couple I hear, has moved to Tennessee, she completed her Masters degree now he is working on his music.
So, let’s be clear, each and every one of these couples are still together. Now you may say “3, that’s not so great”, but 3 is all I have ever attempted. It’s a damn good record for someone my age, and the success rate speaks for itself. The key is never do it unless you get the “whoosh”. I always get the whoosh, and though I admitted in that linked post to not really thinking Ben and Matt would be anything but a fling, I am sure somewhere deep down I knew they were connected.
The fact that I’ve never connected any two people who are not still together, and given it has been a long time since I’ve indulged myself in this little hobby, when my 6 foot tall friend Kait moved in with me temporarily I started looking at the 6 foot 6 dude in my in my geopolitics working group a little closer.
I had coffee with him, lunch with him, and believe it or not I went shopping with him, but that is another story. The short of it is I got “the whoosh”.
We had a casual bar meet-up last week. It went well. They hit it off. There are tons of reasons for this but I’ll not go into them, save to say I knew it.
We discussed earlier in the week how she thought it’d be great to go out with him again, but she hoped he wouldn’t choose Valentine’s day as that would be “a little weird”. When he called to ask her out he suggested Friday saying he thought it would be “a little weird” to go on a first date on Valentine’s day. Like I said I got the whoosh.
Me and other temp housemate are sitting here waiting the results of this date. I live alone most of the time and prefer it that way but
being able to sit here with someone awaiting the date report of my first matchmaking attempt in some time is kind of fun.
As it’s Old School Friday I’m kind of melting these two together, a tad late I know. The theme this week is the Blues, .
Wouldn’t going to something like this be a hot first date? Yes indeed.

Yes, it would definitely be a hot first date. :)
Good for you, you’ve got a perfect track record.
OK, I tried to edit my comment and it came out a mess (see above). Here’s what I initially said:

Yeah, I like to brag but we will have o see twenty years down the road.
Great pick1 I love Bonnie Rait and haven’t heard any of her in a while.
I haven’t heard her in awhile either, the combo was great.
I had John Lee Hooker’s duet album on cassette when I lived in Australia. Living in Australia and listening to this duet makes America seem like a sexy trollop. Good luck to Kait and Geopolitics.

Well, they have things called CD’s now….
Sweet vid, Happy Valentines day I send a text message to the mother and the grandmother, my Valentine Day communication is done.
Happy V day.
Can’t wait to hear Kait’s story, send me a photo to approve, or not.
I can go with Hooker, nice.
There will be no more story from me, you know that. I don’t even know what got into me – to post that.
went well
My wife and I were “a match” made by some simple deception of mutual friends. We didn’t know it until months after the fact. We thought we met by chance.
awwww
That’s an unheard of success rate. I’d charge too. Can they get the fee back after ten years?
I think a 7 year certificate is the best I can offer.
Well…look at you, The Matchmaker! I’d charge, definitely…you’ve got a 100% success rate!
Love this song…
I would do you for free. ;)
This is so cool! Not many people can say they’ve orchestrated love matches. And I love the Bonnie Rait clip:)

Great video and even better success rate. Are you sure you aren’t leaving any off? Are you that successful in predicting your own? Just asking.
My success rate at predicting who won’t stay together is almost a hundred percent. No one wants to hear those predictions though.

Heh. I like the concept of “the whoosh.”

The whoosh is quite enlightening.

Thanks Chris I forgive you for being late.
This whole OTN Cooper as matchmaker concept is hard for my frazzled brain to take
I’m sitting in my temp roommates living room waiting for daughter roomie to finish her shower. I had two baths here so the concept of one bathroom for two or more people has become alien to me
Cooper twitters? The NYTimes has just discovered Facebook and Twitter in a big way. Still I hesitate to twitter
So are you going to analyze and describe this whoosh, or just leave my poor soul out here wondering?
I actually kinda tried to get two friends of mine together over the past few weeks. It ended with a text message to the girl this past weekend. I said, “Are you sure you’re not interested in him?” She replied, “NO! Stop asking!”
I’m guessing that’s the anti-whoosh.

Well, there is whoosh, and then the dreaded anti-whoosh. I never attempt it unless I am almost certain, and after much investigation.
lol Cooper
