Now Is The Winter of Our Discontent

February 9th, 2009 by cooper

Like Richard, we attempt to bring on our own summer through the manipulation and treachery of Valentine’s Day.

I don’t think much of Valentine’s Day as a rule, a feeling I expressed in my Inaugural Valentine’s day blog post. As little attention as I pay to the day I will admit to accepting Valentine’s gifts not only from boyfriends, but from relatives, friends and even comparative strangers, as it’s rude to refuse a gift if it comes with good intentions and no expectations. Does that make me a hypocrite?

I was considering posting, for the week of Valentine’s Day, about things I love. Not in a romantic way, in a general way. Then I thought “eck”, that could get pretty nauseating. I could post only about things I love to hate, definitely an easier task, but one that I fear would leave a portrait of hardheartedness everlasting. To that end I’m back to a week of posting about things I love, in a general way.

The rules are simple, though I will post about anything which comes up, it will be in a loving way. For instance I might say “I love the shade of yellow Anne Coulter chose for her hair this week”, but only of course if I really love it. ;)

For today, thanks to sk, I love this little piece I discovered at The Litter Box.

Peter Sellers doing his Beatles’ “A hard day’s night” version of Laurence Olivier’s version of this piece of Richard III.

I loved the original Pink Panther. I admit I’ve only seen Sellers on a couple of other movies, but in that limited repertoire he appeared to be a virtuoso of his craft.

Titled copped from Richard III

Sincerity on Valentine’s Day? Is there no romance in you at all?

Indeed, but it doesn’t come in a box of chocolates or a shiny bauble.
I prefer dark chocolate though, and you can get me a man made diamond just have it set in a platinum and designed by someone besides J lo or Celine Dion.

  2. Very cool video to post. You simply have to see Peter Seller’s film “The Battle of the Sexes” (1959). One of my favorite films as a child was “The Mouse that Roared”.

    Happy Valentine’s Day in advance!

Not my discontent, it’s been warm enough to surf. That video is pretty sweet. I’ve seen him the Pink Panther but that’s about it.

I LOVE — THE WEATHER THIS WEEK.

I love that the only Valentine I have to send this year is to my grandmother.

Peter Sellers heyday was the 50’s and 60’s and he wasn’t “cute” enough for me. Though I loved his movies and sense of humor – believe he was a frequent Carson guest

As “he’s just not into you” is coming out Friday, my friend and I decided it would be a perfect movie to see on Saturday night

Oh it’s very very rude to refuse a gift especially on Valentines Day as peoples intentions are generally truly pure and loving

But saying something nice about Ann Coulter? That my dear Cooper is anti-American

I love terms like” inaugural Valentine’s” blog post.
    Is Sellers dead?
It’s difficult to be good and funny, or funny and good, in that way.
The clip was good, a whole week of love is going to be hard.

Shakespeare? Am I seeing a little Shakespeare on this site? Isn’t manipulation, treachery and murder (I think that’s what Richard did) a desparate way to bring about Valentine’s Day? I don’t see you as that desparate Coop :)

What better place for the Bard.

“Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him”.

      Works well here.

Now that was a video I’d never have seen if I hadn’t stopped here. I’d probably know the words were Shakespeare but I wouldn’t remember the play.

I know it’s a joke — the holiday — like you said in that original post, all the wife beaters buy their sig other flowers or candy, something more if they are rich wife beaters. it means nothing.

So, what do you think I should get my gf for Valentine’s Day?
