It’s Old School Friday. What better way to return from a few days of cheer with family and friends then to theme it up with “I Can Drink To That”.
Reality is I’m short out of college where even “The Star Spangled Banner” is a drinking song. It’s not likely this is going to be that difficult. You name it, someone can drink to it. We all have friends in low places, even you. You know who I’m talking about.
“Another Auld Lang Syne” is here because it sounds like a song which someone could sit around drinking to, on certain occasions. It’s also here because I never knew who wrote/sang this song until this evening. I always thought it was Harry Chapin.
Not “Old School” exactly, but it was out when I was in high school so it’s “Old School” to me.
The Donna’s “Take it Off”.

Slept all dammed day because of the damn carb intake. It’s not the turkey.
BTW, I wanted to comment so badly on that last post, but I think you know I agree. I would say more, but I already sound like a stuttering John.

I thought closing for the holiday was a good idea. ;)
Hands down the best drinking song has got to be “Friends in Low Places.”
But you’re right, practically any song can be made into a drinking song with enough inebriation and the right crowd. In fact, I do believe there was a time where we shared a drink to “The Theme to Gilligan’s Isle.” I mean – come on, “Now sit right back and you’ll hear a tale” even sounds like a guy sitting around a bar telling a tale while getting sloshed to his ears.

It always depends on the mood I guess. I hear fast loud music makes people drink more though.
very easy listening Cooper..

Cheers to you as well miss Kim. I hope you had a great Christmas.
Listening to old Jimi Hendirx is good when impaired, Sublime works too. Depends on the mood. Listening to sad songs after a few drinks works in a whole other way. Old Irish drinking songs are nice too.
I think I could drink to anything but a choir.

I could drink to a choir.
I have a long standing love for Dan Fogelberg though he can get boring. Not in that song however…
My favorite drinking song has to be Tom Waits “Waltzing Matilda” because it drives people crazy, or they love it, two reactions you want when seriously drinking
If you’re home with good friends – anything Motown which brings me to “you’re so lucky you’re not in your 20’s during the disco era”.…
My favorite break up drinking song was “Circle Game” by Tom Rush
Oh I had a drinking song for every ocassion and I was one of the few who didn’t need AA

Motown works. I really missed the Fogelberg boat as I said I know his name but never knew he did that song or really much else.
Mention of singing Gilligan’s Island took me back to The Phyrst in State College, PA, where the Phyrst Phamily takes the stage every Saturday night and you really do sing along to that song, accompanied by sound effects and lightning flashes. Too. Much. Fun. I’ll drink to that.
Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year.
I’ve never heard that song sung anywhere but I guess you’d have to drink if you were listening to it. lol
Depressing songs are a favorite to drink to.

It’s final. People can drink to anything.
I wonder if people drink more to sad songs than upbeat songs?
People not in college I mean, because like you said even The Star Spangled Banner is a drinking song in college..
