Even as abuse victims seek a court date with the Vatican, the Vatican issued it’s Dignitas Personae: On Certain Bio ethical Questions. Dignitas Personae meaning (The Dignity of a Person). Focusing on the dignity of an embryo, as if any lack of dignity subsequently is insignificant – it is surely unaddressed.
The Pope goes on to denounce gender theory, reported here in “The Australian”. “The Australian” quotes the Pope’s year end speech in which the Pope explains “when the Church defends God’s Creations, “it does not only defend the earth, water and the air … but (it) also protects man from his own destruction”. “If tropical forests deserve our protection, humankind … deserves it no less,” .
When a representative of your Catholic Church starts ringing your phone off the hook to let you know it’s time to meet with them to discuss just how much of your income they can expect you to surrender to “The Church” this year, as they are asking you to organize your paperwork so they can look over your assets and income to help you make your pledge decision, remember this. It’s 20 degrees outside without the wind chill, someone is living without heat, and some are living, and will die, on the street this winter. Some kid’s parents can’t afford to get his teeth cleaned – he will end up with a brain abscess from an infected tooth. A women in Congo is being raped as I write this, and Nancy Grace continues to cover the same old story about the cute little girl whose attractive (according to the standards of the media) young mother is charged with her murder. A murder most people thought from the outset she likely committed. Those with lesser looks, advanced age, and of a less desirable heritage are still lucky to get five seconds of coverage. Surely the Pope and his minions, as well as your Parish Priest, can survive without one fifth of your income, at least some of which could be put to better use than paying for a pair of expensive Italian loafers for The Pope. The world is messed up. “The Church” continues to benefit from convincing so many that by giving to the church they might save that messed up world. It defies logic to think that around 2000 years in, with problems never ending, people still fall for this.
This brings me to the reason I took a pass at the last “Old School Friday”, the “Christmas Song” edition. I love listening to the songs those like Marv posted. I listen to them often despite myself, however, there is no basis of belief for me to refer to when listening to most of the religious songs. What I believe in can’t be explained by a virgin birth. The Santa songs are cute, but I outgrew them a couple of years ago. Songs which elicit goosebumps in others are merely pleasant songs to me, though Luther’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is always Sweet” the “The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl – Fairytale of New York” is more real.
I always feel a twinge of guilt being such a kill joy.
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king,
“Do you know what I know? Do you know what I know?
In your palace warm, mighty king,
Do you know what I know? Do you know what I know?
