Cornucopia

Teetering on the edge of the cavernous rabbit hole of political dialogue and opinion is exhausting. Hoping the end result will be a tea party to which the Queen of Hearts and the dormouse are not invited, and where the white rabbit and the Cheshire cat man the head table. Yes, this I hope, while at the same time knowing each and every one of them follow the same rabbit.

Pleasantries:

IM Dedd is no longer so, he is finally live with “Blame My Mom“. Only now we call him Paul. Or I call him Paul, you call him Mr. Malden.

Supreme Court Will Not Hear Case Seeking to Limit Abortion Rights

Estimated number of U.S. lives saved per month by $4 gasoline, through reduced driving nationwide: 1,000

Factoid:
The little factoid from Harper’s Index on John McCain’s total no vote in the Senate since the end of April with the exception of the bail out votes last week, made me go look to see what was up.
McCain has done the No Vote thing since the end of April. Obama, and I only quickly ran down the list, has voted at least 34 times if you do not count last weeks voteS.

Project Vote – McCain
Project Vote – Obama

A little gauge of courage or perhaps priorities?

Interesting read: An essay from Harper’s originally written in 2005, Let There Be Markets: The evangelical roots of economics. If you don’t have access to the full read and want to read it let me know. This essay presents not only some history, but some thoughts on why the free market’s time may have passed – like at least 5 years ago.

Laketrees third annual win a portrait for Christmas. A contest well worth entering. Look at the portraits her last two winners won at the link. Great Christmas present too.

It’s a poor sort of memory that only looks backwards.

12 Thoughts on “Cornucopia

  1. That gasoline stat is pretty interesting. To someone who pretty much has made a second home in his car, I often forget how dangerous the contraption I’m in really is. I love driving… but I’d really hate to die. And I have to admit, that $4 gas has limited those occasions where I just took off for three hours, wandering aimlessly across Southern California.

    • Harper’s Index is full of interesting factoids one would never search out on their own.

We’d be a safe country if no one drove of course. ;)

  2. seems to me that the the problem truly lies in private interests and greed ..and that good old standby…religion!!

thanks for the shout out Cooper…

  3. I’d be interested in the Harper’s article. Ties directly to what I just posted. And I plan to do the research – seems like a good topic to dive into for now.

Family crisis: my aunt and mom are likely fighting(as they were this morning) over financials. My mother needs $800 to start a bankruptcy and my aunt is worried about “us” hocking stuff. (So far, we sold a ring for $78 that no one wore, or in my case, knew about until about 2 months ago. But my borderline obsessive-compulsive B of and Aunt is in control mode. Showing all her love to sis. And tangentially blaming me – referencing “you guys” as tossing stuff out. (Real garbage as opposed to her way of keeping everything, boxes, plastic dishes, and anything else she considers important.)

    So that’s my headache.

Wonder why I got financials on the brain?

  4. The Harper’s article is interesting. Also, fundamentalist. I think I read that when it first came out. Torching straw men is a favorite ritual of left and right.

  5. I’d feel a whole to better if I you didn’t make me wrap my brain around the character analogies from alice in wonderland.

    The vote tally is interesting.

A bit of both courage and priorities.

Send me that article if you can, I am not blessed with Harpers, and the teaser grabbed my attention.

  6. I would like to read it
Love this It’s a poor sort of memory that only looks backwards.

A quote from Alice in Wonderland – of course.

      I sent the essay.
