They Don’t Know

September 19th, 2008 by cooper

You stay up late in grad school. The willingness to work and deny yourself blogging time is a condition of acceptance. I should have read the contract.

I stayed up late last night, but broke the contract. I read quickly through a bunch of blogs.

I read blogs for fun. I get my news from newspapers or journals for the most part, but blogs„„not so much. I read blogs for many reasons. I don’t have rules. You don’t have to be the best writer, post daily, or have spectacular design or fifteen thousand fake technorati favors for me to read you. (though many of the bloggers I read are spectacular writers with killer designs)

I read bloggers who post daily, or maybe a couple times a year. It matters not to me. Many I’ve been reading for some time, years actually.

I read the blogs of people I find interesting, people whose stories are compelling, bloggers who are bright, inquisitive, brooding, maybe silly with a cracked heart, and open mind. A blogger may or may not be the best writer, but if I find myself liking them for any old odd reason I read them. It’s usually about the people, rarely about the blog.

Consequently I actually read very few blogs. ;)

People around me often get annoyed with my blog reading/writing habit anyway, so I took it upon myself to have a little fun in the middle of the night. Between my real work and sleep I composed this little video which The Violin Man has assured me is eligible for nothing more than the prestigious “You Are never going to be a Filmmaker —  or even Videographer Award”.

The You Tube version is quality poor. The linked version below titled My Blogging Compatriots is a better quality version, but in case you don’t have Windows Media the YT will have to do. You can download the better version directly or just open it with WM. Higher quality on full screen WM.

It’s less than 4 minutes of your life. You’ll never get it back it true, but there will be some compensation in knowing you gave those minutes to me. ;)

My Blogging Compatriots < — ( download-able win media version)

Theme Song, They Don’t Know written by Kirsty MacColl. This version by Tracy Ullman from You Broke My Heart in 17 Places

    Wow,

    What “right word” said.

You right the WM is better.

    The song is perfect too.

Spectacular! You let those soul-frozen doubters know they can plead with you for a year but we’re not letting you go.

cooper. If I’d only had blogs at my disposal when I was in grad school. I may not have finished. My kids, house, and job kept me in line pretty effectively. I don’t recommend the “have a life before grad school” plan at all. Sorry I haven’t been around — it’s definitely not because you weren’t reading blogs. As far as that goes, consider the world I was once a part of. The public education quagmire. My friends not only indulge me my post career proclivity for blogging, they hawk my blogs. Go figure. But I’ve been sucked up by the food blog world. It’s a problem. I hear it’s the latest eating disorder over at huffington post. Thanks so much for taking the time you do with my spec. I do adore you, you know. Oh that I’d had a daughter. Just one…

Well I expect to see you on the telly showing me how to bake something or other. Now that your house is sparkling Martha Stewart shape I think the time is now.

I’ve been pretty good about staying away from the computer, I use it like a cigarette break, popping all around during my five minutes of free time. Of course the potential for getting carried away still remains a monkey on my back.

I want another word because “awesome” will be used again I think.

    Singular my dear cooper, singular.

I’m preening a little because I made the cut and John didn’t.
    Who’s crying now?

Someone might want to tell the lady who wants a daughter that you used to snowboard and do flips off the roofs of houses.

Seeing as it was my house I guess I better tell her.

This is Ki’s computer I’m on bar break checking my bank statement. ssshh

    singular

It’s time you know my secret, Miss Cooper. Part of the reason I write as much as I do is because of the knowledge you might be out there reading my site sometime soon. I don’t want to disappoint you by not having something fresh and new.

That’d be like having an old, cherished friend pop in for a visit and having only leftovers to serve them.

Nope, you must always have something ready to serve… just in case someone does pop in. LOL

I do prefer things fresh from the oven, but leftovers are pretty good sometimes.

Since I fit none of your definitions but one, and because you visited me last night, my take is that you like The Litterbox because of “any old odd reason.”

Now, get back to yer studies ya slacker!

wait a sec… you used to do flips off the roofs of houses???? holy crap but you sound crazy! but seems like I have an autographed snowboard from some Olympican chica who used to do that when little… wonder where I put it. …

  13. What can I say I wish I could write that. You have the talent my friend. And keep on doing what you are doing.
    Look forward to more.

  14. I feel the same way. The video was a great homage to the multiplicity of great blogs out there! Thanks.
