Old School Friday

September 12th, 2008 by cooper

Old School Friday, theme “Girl Groups”.

So many, all fab in their own way. I’m leaning toward those who played instruments, and didn’t ask “will he love me tomorrow”, or worry about what “Ma Ma said Ma Ma said”, though “shop around” is pretty sage advice to this day.

I love all those old girl groups songs for fun and the vocals, the words just don’t click with me. At least the Leader of the Pack girls were pining away because the guy died, not because he left, and the Crystals preferred rebels.

My choice would be Bikini Kill because I was “oh so cool” when I liked them. I was around 12 or 13 and they were already almost gone. I still have Pussy Whipped hanging around here somewhere. The sound is jarring however, and the lyrics are explicit

So, I’m going to walk like an Egyptian with The Bangles.

LOL, There is a wiki on it somewhere.

It was the first song by an all-female group playing their own instruments to top the Billboard singles chart.
