Freedom Cages and Repub Machine Rages

The Democrats (shamefully), gave us the Freedom Cage, where not one delegate was easily accessible.

There were some scuffles the protesters at one event were pepper sprayed
they were told ahead of time even if they had a permit if they got in the way they would be asked to leave and upon not leaving would be arrested. They made their choice and the result was a choice was made to use a modicum of brutality in the form of pepper spray to disperse the crowd, and some were arrested.

The heavy handedness was ridiculous, but not unexpected.

I’m more upset about the Freedom Cage — what a joke — and the arrests (or banning from events), those who would report or photograph those who represent us commiserating large donors.

In Minneapolis the gestapo are out ahead of time. This might be your best bet, the RSS feed from Twin Cities Indy Media is available at the bottom of their main page.

  1. I love the phrase “Freedom Cage.” That’s some good modern doublespeak. Incidentaly, I just heard that Dick Cheney and George Bush are going to skip the Republican convention because of hurricane Gustav. Nice excuse, huh?

    • I can probably get you one (freedom cage) pretty inexpensively.

Well, they were so much help the last time around you know we just couldn’t do it without them.

  2. It was my first week of school and I had a lot of preparation to do. Hanging around trying to learn the kids names and meetings. I was tired and skipped most of it. I didn’t see anything about the “freedom cage” on the bits and pieces I did see, but just now looking it up I agree.
Ap lace to meet the delegates when they are all off having lunch with Hollywood or corporations. Makes me sad.

  3. Thanks for the link to Twin Cities Indy Media, will follow them throughout the RNC.

Related to your post, this article also covers the ABC news producer’s arrest, and has a second video along the same lines:

What does a police state look like?

It’s been making the rounds, so you may have already seen it. There’s a longer version at Rocky Mountain News:

DNC Protests: Uncut footage of CodePink protester being slammed to the ground

I always wonder how much the political parties actually influence this kind of behavior, and the extent to which the security battalions go out of control on their own. Both possibilities are equally shameful. And it’s hard to make any sense out of a police officer bashing someone in the face with a baton, especially someone about one-third his size….

    • I think the parties have much to say about this, sadly I believe this with all my heart.

I’ve seen some of it will check out the rest. Thanks.

  4. It was sad but we have bigger and more important things to worry about–I hope Obama acknowledges what an idiotic retarded etc thing it was to do

    But Sarah Pollin?????????????????

She and Gustav have me blogging politics again and I hate politics nor do I have the time….

Hope you’re having a wonderful Labor Day weekend, my “keep me honest and socially conscious” friend

    • It was a great day though I missed the beach today was spectacular for hiking. I’m chilling after my first week of back to school had an art event, ate a lot, and I’m doing work tomorrow while I semi chill.

You are having a much busier time. I hope you get some peace time. And some “peace of mind” time as well.
