How The Democrats Can (are blowing it) Blow It …In Six Easy Steps
I’m not Michael Moore’s greatest fan, but he has 5 very good points.
1. Keep saying nice things about McCain.
2. Pick a running mate who is a conservative white guy or a general or a Republican.
3. Keep writing speeches for Obama that make him sound like a hawk.
4. Forget that this was a historic year for women.
5. Show up to a gunfight with a peashooter.
6. Denounce me!

Things I would have said.
From Savage Minds, Alex Golub in Well I guess we should say something about the Olympics while pondering whether the Olympics are about individual achievement or national pride.
Every time I see a swimmer dive into the water at the start of a race I sort of imagine them being shot out of a gun composed of trainers, family, friends, swimsuit manufacturers, and chlorine manufacturers. Anthropology, I think, would insist that individual performance is the result of collective effort.

Things I learned.
Panda’s watch vidoes of other panda’s having sex to encourage their mating. This strategy has been fairly successful. Not because viewing other Pandas doing the dirty turns them on though. They watch it because they aren’t very good at having sex, but they are great imitators. It’s an instructional video.

Pride and shame though tempered by our culture are innate, a study from
University of British Columbia. intersting because I always viewed pride as learned, not really relating our behavior to that of peacocks.

Things which made me happy.
The author of one of my favorite quotes (a quote you’ll find on the SBF site), Margaret Cho
I am so beautiful, sometimes people weep when they see me. And it has nothing to do with what I look like really, it is just that I gave myself the power to say that I am beautiful, and if I could do that, maybe there is hope for them too. And the great divide between the beautiful and the ugly will cease to be. Because we are all what we choose.
premieres her new show on Vh1 August, 21st.

FYI
This weeks OSH theme will be Political/Socio-political Songs.
Peace

Why does Barack Obama have Michael Moore giving him advice and John McCain Steve Schmidt? Maddening!
As advisers go I think they are about the status quo.
I’ll have to catch Cho, haven’t watched VH1 in forever.
I read the Panda thing somewhere, My first thought was they did it to make them horny, but I got the same thing from it. It’s for them to learn because they aren’t good at it and the Panda’s raised in captivity are too rough on the females causing the females to shun the whole process.
That’s what I read too. Makes them seem a whole lot less cuddly.
I like Micheal Moore, who of course my sister saw yesterday–well “who is that fat director who is always making movies exposing things?” Talking to my sister when she’s not home is like playing celebrity jeopardy.
The Democrats are screwing themselves. It’s not all Obama–maybe there’s a collective shame mechanism at play
It’s the organization which is embarrassingly inept.
I love Cho.
I have a book somewhere called “How You Can Not Pay Taxes Too” or something like that. I’ll find it and send it to you.
They work hard to save those Panda’s. They’re cute but they don’t do a whole lot.
It’s alright I think I pay what I’m supposed to.
I never really liked Panda’s.
Cho is popular at our house.
If you can afford a good accountant, one who does things legally but knows the tax code in and out even an individual can save a lot of money. The loopholes get larger as your business gets larger.
With all the available talent the Democrats as a group are not living up to their potential.
I wouldn’t k now though I do have someone to do my taxes because of some real estate deals I did with my brother.
Yeah, I heard about the tax thing. Terrible to see our corps. are just getting off, while we pay our “fair share.”
New site in your link. I’m a shill now. God help you.
God? Hum, I’m out on that one.
I sorta meant that as, “Lookie here. The socialist is going capitalist…because he needs money…”
I thought that Moores piece was excellent. I don’t believe it will make much of a difference though. For the most part after all of the over attention this election has gotten I believe that people truly have their minds made up as to who they are going to vote for and are just counting down the days until November so that it can be over already.
Most of what is going on now is like white noise. I am not paying attention at this time figuring I’ll wait until after the conventions.
I think a great example of the collective nature of the Olympics is demonstrated by the fact that the Aussie team that won the 200 m relay…..was completely replaced…the four women who swam the heats did not swim the final ….(I suppose the consolation prize is that they receive a gold medal too)
a bit like the little Chinese girl (with the crooked teeth)who sang for the exhibition model…at the opening ceremony…
I think the future may lie in robot manufacturing :)
Exactly, Robots. Why not it is what it is. I could have about as much pride in a robot as I can have in an athlete. lol
I had a stuffed Panda once. Creepy I know.
Great quote from Savage Minds even though it is a quote based on the thought process of an anthropologist.
i want a girl friend like Margaret Cho. girlfriend too.
I wish you’d get another picture.
Aren’t most of your friends like Margaret Cho? With the exception of the ones name Ash, and Tiffany.
