A link in my email informs me I can now meet the bloggers every Friday on the web. This cyberspace event premieres today.
Why people care about meeting the bloggers or what they think is a question I can’t answer.
This week for instance their big initial interview is Arianna Huffington which is what? Some big coup? She talks all over he place non stop. It’s not likely anyone who cares doesn’t already know her opinion on… everything. It’s not that hard to find.
Huff Po, which I scan read religiously, is not as much journalism as it is tendentious opinion merged with pop culture politics. Don’t get me wrong I am part of their isan, but I don’t want to ask questions of someone whose answers lose meaning due to long established doctrine.
Maybe a site called “Meet someone who matters” where we could ask questions of
people who actually do something, Nelson Mandela, Malalai Joya, Angela Merkel, would be a good start.
There is a note on the side which asks you to contribute
(“We don’t take money from corporations or lobbyists, just people like you. Please contribute, we’ll put your message right here too.“), for which you get your message posted on their sidebar.
Well me too peoples, please contribute at wonderlandornot@gmail via paypal. I will run your once sentence statement on my sidebar for a few days too. And you won’t even have to meet a blogger.
Be prepared for Old School Friday coming soon. Theme: “Break Up Songs”.

I love the idea of blogging because it returns power to the proletarian class however we have already reached a point where there is a hierarchy in the blogosphere. Some voice already overpower a few. A lot of the bigger blogs won’t link to the smaller ones ensuring that there is very little mix in the order. This to me is a great draw back.
Blogs do however have a great potential. When I blog I pay attention to what I call “bodies that matter”, which means I specifically try to focus on bodies that are negotiating spoiled identities. Blogging has the potential to draw attention to issues that the mainstream press sees fit either not to print or to give little attention to. It can be used for consciousness raising and as such I am committed to doing my small part. I don’t think that we will really be able to see the result of all of this communication for a few years to come. Either it will be used to solidify the ruling elite or it would be used as the impetus for change.
I’d much rather meet original blogger than pundits we hear from constantly around the clock. Blogging is good but the real life experience in the trenches of womens rights, humanitarian efforts, anything really is limited to their keyboard and their classes. i want to know what they have done lately expect run their mouths and their fingers.
Everyone knows people who blog are the worst kind of company. LOL
I heard rumors.
Consciousness raising is different than overexposed partisan journalists.
I’m with you , a silly choice. People grovel to hear what those who have done nothing have to say.
This is probably why we are in the state we’re in.
Can’t disagree.
i agree — i would much rather “meet” nelson mandela — he recently turned 90 by the way!!
I know, that is pretty awesome considering everything.
“part” of their “isan”?
This is why I still come here.
I learn to read things twice, I’m not as quick as some.
I’d go for that selling a sentence on the sidebar.
I think we are saturated with bloggers who although they may be smart and educated have done very little in real life but refine their opinion giving skills, in the case of Huffington – refine an unapologetic but tedious agenda to which minions off all sorts flock and write. For free I hear.
I read it too, but it is a fair assessment you gave.
On point Jacob.
You are exactly right. Arianna Huffington’s opinions so unavoidable I feel like I’ve experienced marriage. I second Jacob, what’s an isan?
And no amount of money I could donate would be enough.
partisan
You are my favorite humorer, and dawg.
ha,
I got it.
partisan
I feel smart today.
I read a few online publications, Huffington Post not too often, for the exact reasons you say. I know her politics. I want answers, not opinions. I want unbiased reporting.I hardly ever want any of it ,but reading that is like The National Enquirer of politics of the left or something.
I’ve never read the “National Enquirer”, just to make that clear.
There are a lot of people I would be interested in meeting, not those who specialize in opinions, even if they do have econ degrees.
You win. I’m going to have to start a prize bag or something, for all the interpretation needed around here.
