Wonderland or Not

Wimbledon and Old School Friday

I’m figuring out a two hour meeting means a four hour meeting, which will run late so I will be obliged to go to dinner with the meeting attendee’s. Luckily one of the attendee’s was the funniest 70 year old man I have ever met. I could have stayed out with him all night. Age breeds if not intelligence at least a large amount of reason, and a pretty sharp sense of humor.

I got a little present this weekend. I was gifted a free pass to the official website of Wimbledon by Sheila at Black Tennis Pro. I love tennis, though I play poorly. It’s hard to catch the matches normally with work and school, harder still when they are in England. This is a really appreciated surprise. I can now watch them live or watch them on demand. It’s what I’m doing now as a matter of fact. I’m catching up on a days worth and I don’t have to do it at 3 in the morning either.

Thank you again Shelia.

As I like to make the weekends politics free, nice and easy, I’m doing Marv’s Old School Friday again.

It’s Kids Groups this week. I don’t know if I missed something or if kids groups have just sucked since I was born, but it seems the kid groups of old have a better grip on things — music.

I found this old clip of Frankie Lymon and “The Teenagers” singing Why Do Fools Fall in Love . The kicker is Frankie Lymon wrote this song when he was 13 years old.

Frankie was a good one today. I did the Five Stairsteps and the undisputed kid star of his time Stevie Wonder. Hope you get a chance to drop by between your meeting and Wimbleton!

Cooper Cooper Cooper that’s one of my favorite all time songs. Saw them in a concert in a hotel club when I was 11. They were 15 or something too old for me to appreciate their youth then. Frankie Lymon’s life story is so sad…

Stevie Wonder is a genius but too sophisticated for many kids–I couldn’t appreciate “Fingertips” until I was much older.

I know a man–a very sophisticated some say brilliant lawyer who forfeits all his vacation time except for one week at Wimbledon. I find myself searching the bleachers for him. That is a truly wonderful gift

I have to do this song thing next week when I’m back in SC naming everything something Southern :)

I love “Fingertips”.

I’d never heard of Frankie until I started doing my research on”kid groups”. I’d heard that song many times of course.

What no Partridge family?

I never knew who wrote that song. A 13 year old writing it is interesting, the song has endured hasn’t it?

That’s cool about the tennis cooper. Enjoy.

I try to avoid tennis at all costs, rackets and balls are just not my thing (not a fan of softball either). I guess this is from someone who’s face tends to be in the way of the tennis ball or softball. I’ll stick to the water.

Perhaps after you turn 60 your outlook in life becomes a bit more relaxed. You are not consumed with trying to figure out the world, but rather you just accept it for what it is - thus giving way to all the reason and good humor to flow freely without the weight of adult angst.

And then there’s Frankie at 13 - asking the age old question. Being a fool in love in my 30’s, I find myself asking the same question, only with 20 more to follow it.

There will always be questions I guess.

I’m not a good tennis player b ut my mother played a lot of tennis so I also played. It’s more of a mind game.

Leigh it is nice to see you.

I love tennis as well! I watched Venus win her 3rd round match this morning; as well as some of the Nadal match-

I saw that as well. I thought for a second or two that Sanchez might come back.

My problem with tennis is I always want to win. I like to watch close matches to see who comes out mentally most strong.

It’s such a mental game and I am mentally not that strong. I think that is why team sports have always been my choice. I need to feed off others.

Well if you don’t want to win you might as well not play, at least that’s my opinion.

Patridge Family?? eewwwww…

We do seem preoccupied by death these days, don’t we?

Tennis is okay as a sport to play but I could never find it interesting enough to watch. I much prefer track, although there are plenty who think it’s no more interesting than NASCAR. go straight, turn left, go striaght, turn left. Repeat 500 times. Unless yer someone like semi-local girl Hyleas Fountain who won the Ollie Trials Heptathlon yesterday. Jump higher, faster, stronger. Bet I know what she’s been listening to lately.

I’ve never got the pull of Nascar. But it too is an individual sport where an individual in some ways controls the outcome.

Death, as inevitable as it is, is not a worthy preoccupation, as there is nothing we can do about it.

You bring up some very good points on the levels of neglect versus care and how they coincide with one’s ability to pay or be insured. You also have an eclectic variety. This was my first visit to your blog, and I really enjoyed your posts.
