It’s Just My Imagination.….….…… Running Away With Me

Remembering sniper fire when there was nothing but smiling waving crowds may not be the biggest faux pas of Clinton’s campaign, but it will cause some to take second look. I’m not sure “vividly creative imagination” is a qualification for president , and though some might say Obama’s imagination is pretty vivid, they would also have to admit that his imagination involves what is possible, while Hilary’s is a mere hallucination of things past. I’d bet there are more hallucinations therein. Including the one where her tax records are in order.

In the meantime it looks like the potential future foreign policy president, McCain, can’t seem to get his Shia and Sunni notes straight. Will someone please help him, it’s embarrassing. Even my brother knows the difference, and he’s an international finance geek, not a foreign policy geek.

Speaking of the media, as they swarm over the candidates like flies to a dead horse, I award the best line of the day on the interwebs to Mike the Mad Biologist for, “I’ve argued before that one problem with the news media is that they are quite stupid”

Of note:

iConflict is now live — check it out.

Blog Against Sexual Violence is April 5th.

Speaking of sexual violence, for those of you who do not read the Darfur Blog I’m reposting this here. There is a documentary airing on HBO in April. Check out if at all possible.
The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo You have to click on the video, and choose how to run it. The HBO schedule for this is here. In the Congo rape is used specifically as an act of war, and I think this documentary is something everyone should see.

I love The Temptations, but I was in the mood for the younger days Mick’s tight whites.

  • hi Cooper
and I would have to add that the media are not only stupid but very very rude too…
had problems viewing the The Greatest Silence video.…
will have to update my settings …

  • Notice that Hillary didn’t say anything about Wright until this story broke.

It may not be the biggest blunder, but coupled with the other exaggerations and lies she’s used to pad her resume it amounts to wholesale fraud on the electorate. Remember way back when I said that she wasn’t an option?

    also, are you around?

  • I think the media is more lazy than stupid … not to mention sadly over-dedicated to the bottom line. They usually only report a story if the investigative journalism is done for them, and they have no inclination to dig into the things that matter — especially if it could risk lack of “access.” Hence the Bush free ride for the past 8 years, while there’s non-stop sexual dalliance stories and celebrity misbehavior coverage.

The Clinton creative recall is almost comical.

  • In an earlier life, offspring no. 1 and I met with a science journalist. No. 1 got one of the many shocks of her young life when she learned that the journalist (with a major Northeast US paper):

    a. knew next to nothing about science;
    b. was doing science journalism only because he didn’t have what it took to nail down a more lucrative beat.

Of course, reporters only do what will sell [insert units of selected media type here] — and their advertisers. Now if only We the People would buy quality journalism … Quilly, what kind of mushrooms did you say you put into the salad?

I’m going to have to get to know this Mike dude. I’m not sure I can allow any microbiologist to be madder than me …

    ;)

  • Amoeba, that’s why I subscribe to The Economist. I think HRC is amazing. Was she not watching what happened to Al Gore after he described the shudder of the helicopter over a rampaging wildfire except he hadn’t been on it?

  • When those in the media complain about people complaining about them, you notice they put on their ‘not me’ look and move on to other things, saying, “well, I’m not the problem.”

I wish I could go through a storehouse of media coverups and blunders and outright hoaxes portrayed on us, the often gullible and happy consumers of this tripe, and write a nice long clear book on those bypassed arenas of media garbage. (Not a particular us, just an overall us.)

Yes, I got a fever. FEVER in the morning, FEVER all through the night… You give me Fever. (Peggy Lee)

  • Oy Vay, what the candidates won’t do for love, and what the media won’t do for money. Entertaining truth.

I saw out takes of the Congo documentary along with discussion, it looks like something to watch so I’m keeping my eye out for it’s premiere.

  • Good post! Won’t go into the HillBillary dreamland, but on the violence against women. I just did a blog about the women of Africa (where I am from) and how they carry the continent on their backs. And how men uses all sorts of violence against them mainly because they do not have the strength of the African women. And the way men do their work is to fight with what they don’t understand or what they are scared of. http://angryafrican.net/2008/03/26/long-live-mama-africa/

  • People forget that the media — excluding mann coulter and radio talk show hosts — are people just like the rest of us. They, too, come with warbles and warts.

I can, however, think of specific instances where the media (i.e., a certain reporter) was less than objective in covering a story that he should have covered or wrote in a certain way the story of something which he should have written differently had he not been so close to people within the story.

The McCain thing from the other day gives me a few giggles — none stronger than his messing up “lender” with “leader.” My gosh, but wasn’t he reading from a teleprompter? Maybe they ought to make those words just a bit larger. McCain is doing quite a bit of stumbling lately and I hope it is not indicative of a larger problem. His choice for VP had better be someone who is on the ball should he suddenly take a dive. And not Huckabee, either.

  • Okay, Cooper. After I’ve blogged about something quite worthless, I come here to get smacked back into place. *sigh*
I have sadly been out to lunch lately. No paper reading, no web surfing. I feel like I’m in a vacuum. I do get to listen to NPR for a few minutes a day (which isn’t nearly as stupid as the rest of the media) and did hear about Hilary’s sniper dance. Thanks for the info on the Congo documentary…

  • It amazes me how she could vote to send men and women into real sniper fire, but obviously has no idea what it really entails.

It seriously worries me when people can bold-faced lie over and over even when they have been outed.

  • laketrees: Yea if require newly updated feature I guess. I tired to get it somewhere else but couldn’t find it.

EW: Politics in general though is wholesale fraud on the electorate. What happened to the class on not taking politicians literally? Most people missed it.

Francis: The media is controlled more than anything, and certainly entertaining at times but evidently not meant for real news.

amoeba: all those “science bloggers” are mad as hell, I’m surprised you are not one of them, as opposed to being one of them. ;)

Doug: I subscribe to The Economist to get a rather conservative view on eonomics because I surround myself with liberal lackeys I need something to balance it all out. ;)

jasonp: There should be two labels, the media and the “real media” though on the tube I’m not sure where the real media is any longer.

jacob: If you get HBO you’ll see some briefs on it over the next few weeks.

Angry African: I worked with several woman from Africa and one of by good friends here, now a citizen here is also from there, I’m sure they would agree. That was a great post, I love you blog and plan on doing a lot of reading there.

I llove your blog by the way and read it whenever I am able.

sk: Their warts don’t excuse them, just as it doesn’t really excuse a doctor for gross negligence.

I know very little about McCain except he is a lifetime politician and never seemed all that bright to me.Those mistakes belie his whole point though wtf.

kellypea: eh, I wrote about jellybeans the other day so I’m not all serious and boring. I read the papers never catch the media news any longer. Yea try to catch the Congo docu if you can.

Tipp: Who knows she may be so friggin crazy she actually remembers it that way, they say if you lie enough it becomes the truth ‚even to yourself.

  • Cooper I too come here to be slapped into place – that was an incredible line Kellypea

My Black nephew Kenny, nephew of choice, was never a political person. He wanted to be a stand up comedian than began making mucho money

Obama and Wright have touched something deep in him-his anger, the anger he never knew he had has come boiling out

I didn’t want to agree with him and I don’t about a few things. But he’s virtually forced me to rethink many things. His father was a Panther and while I understood the intent I couldn’t condone the methodology

I very much condone Obama and even Wright – who speaks from a pulpit not from a violent street

What’s been missing in all the rhetoric is the plight of the American Black male. So many doors open to them now; so many don’t

I don’t want to see another generation of Black men growing up worshipping ghetto. Times are getting hard again. People turn to drugs. Crack is cheap. Crack breeds violence. Crack breeds AIDS. There’s so much more

I’m not saying this is why people should vote for Obama. But they should listen, and if they listen they will hear reason. HRC – she’s become filth, dreck as they say in Yiddish – I don’t really know how to translate that other than something to wipe off your body. She’s not the same person she was in 92. That Hillary was amazing. I find it tragic that I could support Bill through all the scandals as I believed in him the person and politician but now…I’m not sure they understand the concept of truth

McCain, he once sort of made sense. Now he’s in a vapor or cloud somewhere

On another note, when my blog vaporized I lost the pages with buttons and rings etc I found that liberating. There’s one button I do want. Darfur – you know me Cooper, I need code

  • Loving your blog, my thought on this, me must open your eyes on things like Darfur conflict right now, there’s much more sad stories than the American elections.

  • Guess he must have missed the “Cooper Also Blogs at Darfur: An Unforgivable Hell on Earth” part.

The elections are important to all the events world wide, be it Darfur, Somalia, Iraq, and so on.

We’re trying to get it right, give us a break.

Love what you’ve done with the place.

    Spring Cleaning?

Loved the posting but got caught up in the design change up and lost my train of thought.

  • It is a true psychosis when you can convince yourself of things that aren’t true like that. I believe she is crazy. And scary, and I am afraid for our country when half of democrats/independents vote for her.

Ok, enough of ranting. LOVE the new look!

  • Okay, so I already commented, but I couldn’t resist saying you beat me to the new themes release, didn’t you. This one’s nice…the shades of grey excellent for most of what you write about that the world misses, the contrast of the soft lines of the flora with the hard line you take on what you know to be important. Yah. So I like it.

  • Pia: No one needs to slap you into place, you’re the original.

MCain never made sense to me though.

cp: I’m with you on Darfur.

    casey: Yes spring cleaning.

Tipp: That’s why I’m off news as much as possible, it makes me crazy to see crazy people.

Kelly: I usually read blogs on my reader at school in between classes. Today I read the dashboard, looked at the new themes and gobbled this up while drinking coffee. I kind of like it. It was getting too crowded here, and I felt the need to downsize and calm it down a bit.

  • Beautiful new space!

This HRC shit is out of control! I think I prefer imagining about the future rather than hallucinating about the past (rephrasing your words)…

    The MSM sucks…

  • sometimes, i get too involved with other countries’ politics that i forget the state of my own. reading this, i’m smacked back into place, if only to see things that are right in front of me. you are a worthy read, every damn time. xx.

  • I love the fact your themes change all the time. It gives your site a sense of time passing, a natural order of things. I like the way the appearance waxes and wanes with the seasons.

  • “Regression Methods for Policy Anal” on the page required is still an index.…
    Oh my Lordy!!!
    Alice!
Sei ottima a fare i memeeeeeeeeee!
Vould U put the meme “If I Were”?
    …amore e guerra

  • Redid the site again, I see.

    Looks good.

Don’t you ever get tired of changing it?

  • We brought back an Obama poster from our stateside vacation and are proudly displaying it in our window. My muse even got an Obama button, but they were hard to come by.

We also noted, in Cincinnati, almost nowhere did we see McCain or Hillary signs on lawns in front of houses. There was one enormous billboard of McCain, coming into Cincinnati on I-75 — and sometimes we saw Hillary signs on anonymous roadsides. I think this makes a statement.

  • Marv: I sometimes think these candidates are just too tired to remember anything correctly. That’s giving the benefit of the doubt.

mojo: In a quest for perfection one is always changing things. One day I will find the perfect theme and stay with it for over a year. It sort of relaxing to change themes — my drug of choice.

JasonP: I’ve yet to find one which is prefect for me is why. When I was at blogger, back when it was blogspot I actually had a perfect theme.

Indie: I’m glad you made it back, poster and all.

hanna: I will do it eventually when I have a better book sitting next to me. ;0
