Lonely and NOW disgusted.

This is why, though I believe in equality for all and know there is a long way to go, I’m not fond of screeching illogical feminism.

The President of NOW NY put out a press release dramatically titled “Senator Kennedy Betrays Women by Not Standing For Hillary Clinton for President.”

In a fine effort to humiliate all woman, she shows herself to be the stereotypical premenstrual female unable to think clearly during that time of the month. The woman, obviously at some personal psychological tipping point of her own, embarrasses woman everywhere by showing just how ridiculous and illogical a feminist screaming in unmitigated rage can appear.

Though it appears there is no reasoning, only anger, behind this, and absent from her complaint is any disappointment in powerful woman who have endorsed Obama, her reasoning is there, under it all, it’s just not sound. To be on the side of woman you must vote for a woman, even if that woman is a power hungry minx, who is being constantly propped up by her
husband, and has a less than stellar progressive voting history.

Lesson number one: There is no book, so whatever book you are going by throw it away.

Grad school is a place full of collaboration and consultation which seems, despite it all, to have potential for a certain degree of loneliness, the loneliness which comes with knowing what you do is more yours, and yours alone, than anything you have done in the past.

Enjoy your lonely, (concert), song of choice.

The real cooper will return sometime later this week.

Peace

  • I always thought situations like this were more precisely covered by rule six of The Australian Bruces Faculty Rules:

    There is no rule six!

  • It seems to be too long since I visited…
You have a great new look (and I liked both the songs).
In Finland women are among the most equal in the world and I think our President (woman) got her votes equally from men and women.
It is so odd, that when I was young I never noticed any discrimination because of being a woman, but lately it has become more evident. Could it be possible that the men are beginning to fear for their position :)

  • The press release seemed out of control, like a kid getting pissed off at a friend for playing with other friends or not picking him first for the team.

“the loneliness which comes with knowing what you do is more yours, and yours alone, than anything you have done in the past” is a great line

I heard there was a book, I’ve yet to find it.

  • Tell the real Cooper I said hi, and thought that was going to be The House of The Rising Sun up top.

  • This Cooper will do :) i never called myself a feminist as I always despised the anti man bias

I strongly believe that a woman should have degrees and her own money – I’m told that makes me a feminist. I also don’t believe in taking a man’s name but that’s personal – doesn’t make me a “feminist.”

Most of the people who have given me breaks have been men. Men who appreciate strong women who don’t act strident but have inner strength

The Hillary of 1992 was somebody I respected. I loved her “misguided” health care proposals. We might not be in the mess we’re in if that had passed

For her to disavow her past – I can’t forget or forgive

Just read that the person who was given the most publicity 1/21 – 1/27 was Bill. Every time he opens his mouth he gets another vote for Obama – and I did like Bill despite.…Hope he keeps it open this week

You will learn Olivia to ignore “super feminists” who don’t look past gender. They’re absurd and I hope not influential

I hope we have learned to think for ourselves – as a society but…

  • I think we all have to find out that any –ist or –ism generally carries with it a too preachy and too condescending attitude towards its polar opposite, and even a “could care less” attitude toward moderate, well adjusted thinking.

Grad school can’t be all that bad Cooper. Try thinking of worse things for you, like working at McDonald’s without the perk of eating the fries ever, or something in your worst career nightmare.

Since there is no book, you are writing one for yourself, thus the need to constantly gather information from a wide array of “respectable” resources. You get to explore it — try to work out ‘new thinking’ — and ultimately, some governing body will say, “here’s your degree. Now go make money.”

Somehow, you aren’t as lonely as you think you are. Hey, you got us bloggers to pontificate to now. ;)

Try to cheer up! (It was –2 last night with a 40+ MPH wind blowing while I delivered papers to porches and driveways. All 215 of them. Do you think I was happy? Well, two shockwaves helped…)

  • Ironically, in Obama’s law school class were two women (dating at the time) who were referred to as the Shrill and the Shriek. Nearly everything revolved around their gender. If it had a penis, they absolutely hated it.

Hillary had a golden moment in New Hampshire when she got teary-eyed. At that moment, she connected with many women (including my uber-conservative S.I.L. who hates her) who had worked their way into successful careers only to have their female genders used as a lever to separate them from open opportunities.

As soon as Bill started opening his mouth, that moment was lost.

There is a fair question floating around: if Hillary wins the office, who will hold the reins of power — Hill or Bill?

Most of America, I suspect, is hoping that Bill and that stained dress will stay the hell out of our minds.

  • I’ve been paying attention to golf and football. I am trying to ignore politics. I showed m wife that press release, she snorted. My wife always said law school was lonely for much the same reason. When you all of a sudden know it’s all on you the hammer comes down.

That is what donuts are for.

    Both great “lonely” songs.

  • MoJo: No Rule Six?????

Leena: Thanks the songs are great yes. I don’t get around too much since school started but I will be visiting soon.

casey: I think I had it once, lost it once I hit college.

dOUG: I told her she said hi to you too. House of the Rising…lol god no.

Pia: God bless the child and all that right?

Jason: Well at this point I can certainly see I’d be an expert at working at Dunkin Donuts.

Bill: As I have only heard of it and wasn’t participating in the democracy of this country at the time I can’t say too much, but from what I’ve read it’s best we not have to look at his face again.

jacob: I love woman who snort.

  • love your blog — never saw the old one but this is great. lots of goodies to look at.

  • Cooper, you called this one exactly as it is.

I can’t resist saying: This Ms. is thinking with her Bush.

  • You’re getting cynical Cooper. Grad school does that. It is a lonely experience, but a necessary one. i found the only true challenging courses and ignored the students – become friendly with the professors. They need students like you.
I have Black & White Night in video and should convert it or buy it new

  • I am involved in a political group on yahoo and the women of the group brought up this article you mentioned. They were also disgusted by it and pretty mad about what she said.

  • An unfortunate post from a president of a subset of a very good organization. You described it perfectly. Looks like she ascribes to the group think theory, and that press release makes all woman in her organization look bad.

Good songs, I always like songs to go along with my lonely.

    Grad school:
You knew it would be that way going in. I like the way you described it — “more yours than anything you’ve done in the past”.

I wish you the best of the best cooper, and hope you get out from under one of these day and flip me that email I asked for. ;)

  • You going soft on us Cooper? (Like the stay-puff marshmellow in Ghostbusters???)

Or maybe turning into a really smart Homer Simpson?

  • Riiight. That’s not biased or discriminatory at all. Our group wants to be dealt with through freedom and equal treatment, but we don’t want to allow any other groups to experience it, just us.

  • “Power hungry minx was the best line”. ;)

It’s the problem with groups, no one is allowed to think for themselves and still be part of one.

    Excellent videos.

  • Keep giving it to Hillary and I may fall in love with thee.….….The world is not black and it is not white.….IT IS GRAY with all the shades between.

  • tsduff: Thanks, and welcome.

inde: Bushes legacy, I’m afriad, will be that exact saying.

pia: I saw it on public television, they show those things all the time, almost bought the dvd but I was all tapped out for the year. ;)

Kevin: It was so obviously stupid I’m surprised the woman couldn’t see it.

    John: yea, yea and yea.

John P: If I’m going soft it’s only because of the donuts.

Dave: Can we all just assume other people have a brain.

Not that everyone uses their brain, but still.

G: They are good aren’t they.

Kak: However, I will still vote for her rather than someone who is against choice, or in anyway associated with the Republicans out there currently. My god what a sad group they have. I can’t believe Republicans are not feeling rather nauseated right now.

  • It’s a Python reference, silly Cooper.

  • I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. We want to put a woman in the Oval Office. But sweet merciful fuck have some standards, people!

All I needed to know about Hillary to disqualify her for my vote was her teaming up with Lieberman to support censorship. And she didn’t stop giving me reasons after that.

Every ideology has a screaming illogical faction. And they’re the ones we hear the most. Which is, I suppose, part of the reason why I disavow most ideologies that have a name. You’re clearly a Cooperist. Which is part of the reason why I keep coming back even when we disagree hard.

I hated that SOAD song the first time I heard it but it it’s growing on me.

Allow me to offer up my humble contribution:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA72ewKKWtc

  • Just came back to listen to the music in the second part of the post (thanks for the mood) — also saw your comment answer. I googled to see if anyone else had thought of that statement. They haven’t, so I better register the trademark. ;-)

Seriously, that person is undermining the organization she speaks for. I found it hard to believe that the real news story is not a parody. The German word for her statements is Eklat.

  • I must say that was one of the stupidest reasons to put out a press release that I’ve ever read. :o (

The concert was much better. :D

  • Chiming in late, most of my points have already been posited by those above. And, as usual, most have some great points. All I have to say is with Marcia Pappas at the helm of NOW, perhaps they should change their name to LATER.

  • My head’s been in a hole so I’ll have to look into this. Anyone who “screeches” this message, whether women, or other, disgusts me. It’s amazing that people don’t use their own brains. I can truly say that when I listen to Hilary, I don’t hear a woman. When I listen to Obama, I don’t hear a black man. It’s amazing that so many haven’t gotten past the surface of things.

As far as grad school goes — or the subsequent career — you have called it. It is yours, and it can be very isolating unless you are one to call others to your way of thinking. And when you achieve that, it is still lonely, even though there are many who may count on you. You can do it, cooper. Look at what you already do.

  • moho: yes,silly me.

Wombat: I’ve always liked that song for some reason. Yes a coopeist, as you are a esotericwombatist.…ah, your is also good. ;)

    Inde: Ekiat, I like that.

    Sheila: Concerts usually are.;)

Morgan: You may be right, how sad for them really.

kellypea: I sometimes think a hole is a good place to be sometimes. I looking forward to my hole time. It was just a dreadful annoyance that screechy crap.
