Things You Always Wanted to Know, But were Afraid to Ask
I have a passion for the macabre, from the not so artistic A Nightmare on Elm Street, a film released almost a year before I was born, a film in which Johnny Depp takes on his first not so challenging large screen movie role as the boyfriend of the heroine, to Sweeney Todd where Johnny Depp takes on the role of the vindictive, embittered barber and….cough… sings.
Johhny has replaced Billy Joel as one of my fake, not in his right mind, older boyfriends.

I’m still committed to reading Of Human Bondage this year, a book I’ve promised myself for years I would read, but for some reason I just can’t mange to get to it. Yawn.
—
I have 5 of the 7 habits of highly effective people.
Go ahead take a guess.
—
I’ve stopped drinking coffee after noon. I decided it was time I slept on a semi-normal schedule.
Until next week that is. So far I have been awake until three every morning craving my morning coffee while desperately searching five thousand movies channels for old Alfred Hitchcock movies.

I am disappointed Obama didn’t take New Hampshire, but annoyed at the assumption that all young females are idiots being swept away by the emotion of Obama, as opposed to having spent some time learning about the issues and making the decision that Mrs. Clinton does not represent them .
I do find it funny to see the palpable dislike of umm….. Chris Matthews for Mrs. Clinton, and the glee with which he discussed her early demise, and how tonight the pundit is tripping over his praises for her, if not obviously choking on them. This is entertainment.
I know I’m not normal. If I tell you I like shoes will that help add some normalcy to the picture?
Actually I like boots.

One thing I think some people misunderstood was the feed reader thing. I want you all to put your blogs on full feed so I can read them in full via my reader in full on days I’m tied up with school. I use google reader, during the day and then have full knowledge of them when I look at the blogs themselves.

I actually liked his singing voice.
Hillary won’t take any more states by crying at softball questions. If it was planned it’s pathetic. And if it wasnt… it almost seems like a bit of Nixonian self-pity.
In any case, momentum’s a funny thing. Two weeks ago coming within three points would have been encouraging Of course Iowa changed that… but I’m optimistic.
I’ve decided Rita Hayworth should have been my older girlfriend. There’s not many of those on my list, but she definitely had a lot of the qualities I find appealing in a woman.
So right now it’d be Sara Stanley, Edda Burber, and Rita. Two fictional characters and one long since passed actress/dancer.
God I hate lists.
After years of being told I would be better off more organized, my father and mother have recently read an article in Costco magazine that says sometimes clutter boosts productivity.
Also him trying to defend Regan has me irratated but thats another story.
I accidentally saw two minutes of Leno last night–he talked of Obama as a rock star and showed young girls–younger than you. He didn’t get that they were excited about the message
I’m a baby boomer woman I’m supposed to like Hillary. Then I’m not supposed to like women candidates.
This is really the first election of the new century and all the rules and the way the games are played have changed
The pundits are having a hard time with that
I was disappointed for about a minute until I realized this is a perfect opportunity for Obama to show what he’s made of
People uh such as my sister might not have to ask me who would be Obama’s ideal cabinet and who would be Hillary’s.
I was having a major meltdown when she asked. The question wasn’t about doormen so I didn’t want to answer
Don’t know if I can get used to Johnny Depp replacing Billy Joel in your affections. It’s been years :)
I’m trying to limit my coffee intake for the same reason and it’s so hard
I bet the habits you don’t have are starting with the end in mind and, maybe, synergy.
You don’t have to explain your entertainment to me, I’d buy front row seats to Lou Dobb choking to death on a chicken bone.
I became fascinated with interdependence–not a habit I know. Something I’m good at a real work situation but not in writing or in my home life
Using my middle name Tani in secret life of doormen
I have never been sure why females love Johnny Depp. My wife adores him in all his weirdness.
I bet the first three habits belong to you.
It’s going to be a long election season. Good thing, it will take the place of the the writers who are on strike. It is serious business, but the news anchors and pundits make it entertaining, not informative but entertaining.
I understood the feed think.
I never really got the whole Johnny Depp fascination thing either, but whatever.
The whole not drinking coffee after noon thing is probably a good thing. I’ve always been amazed by this guy who comes into starbucks after he gets off work at 4pm and gets five shots of espresso… everyday.
By the way, did you ever check out Flock? (it’s got a really cool feed reader too).
PS
I’m feeling much better now. Thanks.
I think it is a riot that wise, learned pundits can zero in on exactly why hundreds of thousands of individuals make their political choices.
It’s stupid, and it is demeaning that in this day and age people get lumped into groups by virtue of skin color and gender. It’s Identity Politics, and if you for some reason don’t fit that template, you don’t exist.
99% of the analysis in punditry is the pundits’ own schoolgirl crushes being attributed to others.
How odd. I have 77 of the 79 habits of highly ineffective people. Small world.
Black boots by any chance?
There is no such thing as normal. If you were closer to average this blog of yours would be a whole different product.
“The 7 habits” are worth reading, far better than “The Laws of Attraction” bullshit.
Ah, a woman after my own heart. Only Johnny Depp would not replace Billy Joel– we would live in strange and awkward harmony.
Only in my dreams.
K.
I’m Black…and I’m a woman…who should I like?
Am I a woman so I should like Hillary?
Or am I Black so I should like Barack?
The answer: I’m a person who believes in Obama…how’s that?!
It was quite amusing to me to watch the political pundits eat their words after HRC won New Hampshire…although when you look at the delegates, it really was a dead tie…I’m not put off at all, it just makes the race all the more interesting…
Coop, I’m also at 5 of the 7 habits…who knew? (((smiles)))
Eh, for some reason I dont think my writings are very important. I mean i would just end up ranting.
I’m really not that interesting.
I’m still digesting the new hampster outcome. You know I am no fan of Senator Clinton. But she definitely hit onto something with her weepy-eyed comment about having the opportunity for so many things. I spoke last night with a friend up that way and was a bit surprised at her justification (probably not the right word) for voting for Hillary at the last moment.
This woman is old enough and young enough to remember when well-educated women didn’t have it so easy. There was a palpable glass ceiling when she went thru her MBA program at Simmons. She views Hillary as an older peer - someone often expected to be a trail-blazer due to being “among the first” while at the same time judged negatively because she plays the same brand of hardball that the boys play.
Her comments about Obama contained hints of disappointment. Understand that my friend and I share very similar political viewpoints and observations. But I was surprised to hear her voice with some amount of passion the disappointment at Obama never defining what he means by “change.”
Change seems to be this seasons buzzword. For Obama and Hillary, they need to clearly communicate that “change” means more than just a different skin color or gender, but a change in the way things will be done in the armpit. Hillary, we both know, will bring none of that type of change - not only in terms of policy but in that nastiness that has come to define our nation’s capital. I know we can do better. And I know we will never get there if large numbers of voters continue to pull the lever for Hillary Clinton for no real reason except that Obama’s message and philosophy is unclear.
sorry about the long post. just drank a mug of coffee (don’t do “cups”).
cheers. :-)
EW: I love him too much to care.
There is no other choice but to be optimistic.
mojo: Those are good choices mojo, I approve. I had to look up Rita Hayworth.
thatoldsoul: Yeah for Costco magazine. lol
Nothing wrong with ranting. I’d say that of course as I do it all the time.
I can’t function when things are not organized.
Just tell him there is no defense for Ronald Reagan.
Pia:
About replacing Billy Joel: I have had second thoughts, and may just have to add Johnny to the group.
Leno is not my thing but it would figure. They are really playing on the strings of the baby boomer woman. Erica Jong wrote something at Huff post which rather ticked me off. I wanted to tell her to go back into her closet. Not that she’d been in one, but still.
Doug: I actually do start with the end in mind, the problem is the end changes from week to week, or maybe from day to day, but I am nowhere near synergy at this point in time, though I suspect the next three years might beat some synergy into me.
jacob: He is ……special. ;)
Ike: That is why the best I can take away from it all is sometimes, a few minutes of entertainment.
Dedd: You know it is, isn’t it. So much alike we are, yet so different. Whne are you coming back anyway?
John: Of course black boots, silly.
I’m with you on the “Laws of Attraction”.
Kate: I can certainly understand the harmony thing, and am currently reconsidering tossing Billy out the door. It is getting crowded what with Paul Simon in there as well.
Marv: Oh I bet I knew, and I bet they are the same as mine. ;)
sk: Stay off the coffee I say.
If anyone bothered to read his website there are some clearly defined changes there. You have to choose an issue read the top and then scroll down. I know it’s hard for people to scroll down, and given our nations habit of getting all their news from sound bites I’m not surprised no one has bothered to do it, .
It may not be the be all or end all definitions but it is far more than people understand, because they simple haven’t looked.
When am I coming back? My dear, I never went away. I’m here, aren’t I?
Being effective is highly over rated. I’m retired from all that now. Let me illustrate…
I’m saving my political comments for next week. I promised myself I’d wait. But I’m loving the idea of all the talking heads falling all over themselves because they have absolutely no idea which end is up. The very best in reality TV.
Hitchcock has got to be in the web somewhere…Night of the Living Dead is and how creepy is that for the wee hours of the morning.
Skip reading Of Human Bondage and see the classic movie with Bette Davis. Then decide if you want to read the book. It’s against my rules, but I saw Atonement, and am now going to read the book. Haven’t ever done that.
Try drinking triple shot lattes. You won’t need coffee after noon.
And it’s nice to know there are others out there who are not normal.
Here’s my list for success:
1) Tear up the lists.
I know what you mean with the Hitchcock films - I’ve collected most of them from German TV, the ones they showed with subtitles. Now I guess you can buy a dvd box with all of them.
Always with the Feed Reader. Sheesh… :) Added the full feed - mostly - at your request.
Dear lord, you’re reading self-help books? Lol.
I’m a fan of the old Hitchcock movies and remember, as a child, I was always on the lookout for the cameo appearance by Alfred himself
I was shocked when I asked my mother who she is supporting for prez. Normally, she is fairly conservative, and I think she’s registered Republican. But she told me she is in favor of Obama :)
I think I’ve become more of an influence on my parents than they are on me in these last few years.
Dedd: You are here but you are not there…..
You kow what I mean. ;)
kellypea: Being effective is highly over rated. That I’m glad to hear.
They play a lot of Hitchcock on the old movie channels and I have a small collection. I’m rather fond of the original Night of the Living Dead movie.
I just might do that, something tells me that I’m not supposed to read it. You’ve just helped me affirm it.
i find the web is full of those who are not normal, makes me wonder if anyone ever was.
Inde: You’re absolutely right about lists inde.
Jason: Thanks you, that makes it easy to enjoy the zenfro in my fifteen minutes of free afternoon time while wolfing down a tofu burger and water.
Naw, not really much of a self helper…
Sean: I fell in love with them when very young, probably wouldn’t have known who he was though if he appeared though now I know what he looks like because I have since seen some old “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”.
Coyote: That’s good to hear. My parents never really influenced me much, except for the fact of my upbringing, which led me to always think first and act second.
