Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Singularitarian

Things will be different around here for the next three years. This is an attempt to charm and entertain you, because I’m not sure how much of either I’ll be able to squeeze out over the next few years.

Something light, because I know how some of you dislike reading about Republicans, Democrats, and even Libertarians.

I know, if you actually think about it it’s not light, but it’s not politics. Yet.

Singularity
, no it doesn’t mean you don’t date, and the only time I spent delving into the term was in a philosophy class, but Hrafn Thorri Thórisson a blogger at Think Artificial, and student of Computer Science at Reykjavik University, and member of RU’s Center for Analysis and Design of Intelligent Agents (CADIA), and the founder of Iceland’s first and only A.I. association, the Icelandic Society for Intelligence Research (ISIR) posted this in a 9rules note, and I thought I’d share it with you

If you didn’t attend the last Transhumanist conference you just may have missed it.

Enjoy.

Singularity
Small list
The Techno-Rapture.
Transtopia

Technological singularity

I’ll catch up with you all this weekend.

Merging with technology, eh? What will you crazy kids think of next? All this new-fangled science is way above my head.

That vid was too funny

Don’t worry about catching up. Your life is about to become very different.

I know you studied constantly in undergrad school but grad school sucks the total you in. It’s an immersive experience and you have to make time for friends and family–in the flesh–though I found myself spending holidays at friends if Thanksgiving was going to be away as I always had papers, and presentations to lead, that I considered to be more important. They probably weren’t. I alway led the presentations as I could be counted on to do all the work, and know everybody’s part. Now I wonder why

I find myself going back to the old familiar as i have less and less time for blogs–consider them “comfort” blogs no matter the subject

Singularity compliments the development of the newer urban plannng models. Artificial Intelligence is used to plan transportation systems, control traffic and to plan the urban system itself.

I look at some of the parking lots and highways around here and only wish they had used AI to assist in their planning.

Thanks for the video.

I’m more familiar with theoretical economic singularity than the more philosophical or scientific versions. The end result is the same for all disciplines. Now you’ve made me curious. I’m going to read about it more completely.

Science fiction never felt so good.

After The Redskin game.

Awesome video. I had a professor who could talk about transhumanism for days o end. I’m one of the few who would engage with him on this subject, philosophy of Law was his intended subject.

I haven’t run across the extropian term in years, bringing back vague profound memories now…. I was amused by the video :P

Mojo: Newer not that new. I am not well versed in it scientifically but have friends who lean toward trans-humanism. I thought the vid was entertaining.

pia:Yes, it is the way it is and I will manage the blogs around it.

John: Your welcome. I can see how it would be used in urban planning.

sk: The vid was clever, and I found it amusing. You of all people should enjoy it.

jake: it is the world of science friction meets real life, will it one day be real life? That’s the question.

Redskins game? They lost. I’m devastated…lol

Who are they now?

G: You I think had the weirdest professors because of where you went to school, a tiny town where hanging out at bars with Ph D’s - who played guitars and wrote poetry - was not unusal.

leland: I’m glad you were amused.

Doug: Anyone’s guess.
My guess is school.

I think I’m right.

It’s very entertaining. I even watched the whole thing twice because I liked that the idea hadn’t been done before.

Well, just think:

After grad school, you will be able to obtain the desires of men that are very educated, probably wealthy (or wealthier than a poor undergrad) but older - north of 40. Or you might find the under 30 genuis that is kind and going places, etc.

The singularity concept is still a ways off. You’ll be old by time that happens. (And I’ll be finito, unless I get by on something else…)

Sure is great to envision the era of transhumanity. Depresses the shit out of me. Since I won’t be getting the opportunity to experience it. (But if I did, that would be Awesome. But given my current socio-economic level, I am guessing NOT.)

So, are you going to study Singularity in a Master/PhD Thesis? That would be way fucking cool man. ;)

Hah, you know, “Hrafn Thorisson at Think Artificial” would’ve been just fine ;) Thanks for the hat tip. Nice new theme, by the way.

Wow, Hrafn, you really have to read me more, you are way late on this.

My readers are very fussy, and like to see the credentials upfront. ;)

Jason: My god no, I am getting a duel Masters international affairs and public policy…the PhD. track for this is undetermined, but Singularity is not in the picture, it is merely what I sit around talking to drunk friends about.

I missed all these comments from last week, but hey no one is perfect. I’m sure mojo didn’t even notice.;)
