The Cock Us and The Vegetable Stew
I’m hoping you all made it home safe and sound, if you went out at all - on New Years Eve.
The Iowa cock us takes place in less than twenty-four hours. You know the event, the one where the reasonable, educated, informed, rural, white, Iowans take the helm at representing a country full of reasonably educated, informed, rural, white Americans. Iowans place their stamp of approval on a candidate by voting, in a very specific early evening time frame. If you are working, an invalid, unable to make it in that very specific early evening time frame, or serving in Iraq you are not part of this privileged crowd. In the aforementioned cases you will be unable to take part in the first a major electoral event of the season, one which might serve as an early indication of which candidates for President might win the nomination of their political party at that party’s national convention.
Speaking of butt crawling, I have had friends or family crawling up mine for over a week. This trend continues for a few more days. I love it because my mother has all of a sudden learned to cook excellent vegetarian meals, like the one prepared and waiting for me when I returned home this evening after I, the lowest of the low on the totem pole of life, schlepped home from work in sub zero wind chill conditions. My mother was always a vegan, but she never really cooked much, when she did it was not pretty. I have been fed and impressed this week with a variety of what she calls “stews”.
I’m not thrilled that there always seems to be someone behind me when I am on the computer, very disconcerting, and the reason this post was not posted six hours ago. I’m enjoying the time spent with family and friends though, so much that I am sure I will be able to tolerate it a few more days.
Peace

How often do you get to celebrate a good caucus with family and friends?
Enjoy, or tolerate, they mean the same thing.;)
Stew for the stewed, what an appropriate meal. So Iowa, the corny State has potential abler voters all ears today. Well needless to say where some of us would like to stick those Iowan corn cobs :)
jacob: Admittedly not very often , thank goodness.
poetress: Indeed poetress, indeed.
An almost mommy/Cooper story–love it.
South Carolina has the first primary that’s supposed to count
Am on my ninth week of having the hours between 7 AM-9AM to myself. Might soon lose it very very publicly
Salaam aleikum.
Go Cooper Go!!! I’m sure you added spice to that stew!! Oh so good to hear your clear voice again!!
I’m kinda excited, this is the first year for me to vote!
Stew sounds good.
cock us
tap tap…
Is this where someone else is supposed to chime in with the expected, but unwanted “if cheney was in Iowa at the cock us, then it truly would be a dick-fest”?
Oh dear… I need to pay less attention to the semi-double entendres and more to the strategies of getting a strong candidate to come in 3rd twice.
meow.
Well, fly over country represents all those values people supposely want in a candidate. Actually, they want the ones that won’t destroy their pocket book, protect them from “evil” and can make America look great.
Hope the eating goes swell. I gotta cold. Need to eat all the chicken soup and vegetables I can…but here I am, commenting on your wondrous blog!!! ;)
Simply brilliant!
Oof. I don’t like that elbow to elbow feeling either. We may be social creatures, but sardines we are not. On the plus, at least they are showing interest in what you are doing, that’s kinda cool… in a way. It will all be over soon.
Oh, and Iowa… go Kucinich! OK, fine, Obama then.
1st… I made it home just fine. I was at home with my family and didn’t make it to midnight… 10:30 pm curled up with my Little Willy!
Hope you have a great new year!!!
Enjoy your family… even though they get on your nerves, it’s always nice to know you can always go home… feel safe and loved… no matter how annoying they can be… :)
At 9 pm, CNN was reporting that Obama was leading with 38% of precincts reporting. Leona Helmsley was 3rd behind Edwards. On the other side, the guitarman was leading on the way to a projected victory. The other fruitbat only garnered 11%. A good experience for all the impressionables who volunteered to campaign for him but his views on science and Abe Lincoln didn’t help him any.
My fave was far, far behind. Time to head to new hampster.
I felt the same way about my family yesterday as I was leaving Florida - my voice has been rough and scratchy and I thought it was from a cold, but I think it’s from having to speak to someone every moment of my vacation (14 ppl in my parents house!). Now it’s almost too quiet.
At least your mom is trying :)
Pia: Close enough. Ugh oh, now you’re scaring me.
Doug: You are such a diverse peace loving dawg.
Harriett: I’m trying. Good to see you, in all your academic business Harriett.
jake: I hope it was good for you.
sk: yeah I know I’ve been a little distracted and my wit, once sharp as a knife, is in need of some flint or whatever it is they use to sharpen things.
Jason: The eating always goes swell, I’m quite an eater.
Ev: You must quciky tell “The Times”.
Nice to see you Ev, hope all is cool.
Dave: They are always interested and never overwhelming. Luckily for me they have pretty busy and full live of their own.
Shanya: Happy New Year to you as well, I’m happy you were safe and warm. Kiss the babies for me.
Leigh: My mom is a good person and a great mom, she never interferes because she knows she did the best she could and was quite successful.
I rarely have them around this much though ,and along with a couple of other relatives in and out not to mention friends it has had it’s stifling moments. Love seeing you and happy new year.
