Ain’t Nobody.…. Without You Guys

Trying to get back to the place I was before I left. I guess one can never reasonably expect go back can they? No matter how diminutive the chunk of time. Time and distance, no matter how short or far, changes everything. Sameness is only an illusion. The dispersion is inevitable, no sorrow.

What is one to do when at loss for words, and having read way too much Foucault the blog looms, but no words will come?

I read blogs.

I read blogs and am reminded I have not read Shakespeare in some time, and that Jewish New York writers can move south but it will be a frightening, exhausting yet exhilarating experience, marine biologists from the northeast can suffer the warm pacific winds and survive — almost thrive, some bloggers come back, some do not, and others should.

I learn that artists have surfing sons, ” Black Like Me” was only the start and almost forty years later it is still the beginning.

I am reminded I have not listened to Chaka Kahn in some time.

Peace

  • I’m just the opposite. I try not to read blogs until I’ve at least written something new. It feels unfair to “take” a blog without “giving” one back.

I am very much in favor of the bartering system.

  • “Dude?”

    “Yeah?”

“How come she doesn’t talk about me suffering the warm pacific winds and surviving?”

    “Because she’s got taste?

“I love you too, dude. Not. Maybe she can come over here and watch me suffer. Wonder if she surfs.”

“And if she did, that’d make one of you.”

“I could take up the violin.”

“That would be vile, dude. Virtual dudes have been defragged for less. I’d be minding your command-Xes if I were you.”

“For the last time, dude. Control–X!!”

  • Yeah, that’s the stuff.

    And Dude, she totally surfs.

  • Take my word on this, “diminutive the chunks of time” can change everything — you got it right.

For being here when you can, and for that Chaka Kahn number, I thank you. ;)

  • Ooh, that Chaka Khan was right on time! Good stuff!

  • Chaka Khan is beautiful – person and the music

Your words might be diminutive but they are long remembered

  • I feel the same way about you Coop — which is why I am one of your regulars.

  • Never let too much time pass between Chaka Kahn songs.
Chaka is good for the soul.

And you’re right…some bloggers SHOULD come back.
    Soon.

For some reason, I miss the ocean now.
    Damn flat, dry Kansas.
    :)

  • Life changes every minute.

I appreciate the way the real you, the you I know, comes through via this blog.
No matter what you write I hope that part remains.

Chaka Kahn, some really good stuff.

I hope they served a lot of vegetable dishes on Thanksgiving.

    She does surf, dude. ;)

  • Nothing wrong with a bit of change, as long as the real you remains.

Rereading Shakespeare is an undertaking that should not be taken sober. :)

  • mojo: I’m selfish that way. I will take all I can get before giving a word. ;)

OC: Poor dude, tell him I suffer for him the words and the surf. ;)

Doug: She totally does, both ways.….

jacob: Who can lot love CK. You’re welcome Jacob, I hope you had a good holiday.

    Marv: Exceptionally good stuff.

Pia:As are yours, though never diminuative.

Xine: I am glad you are . I always wanted a Xine.

Vanessa: It is true the soul needs Chaka, I thank Doug for reminding me of that in a round about way.

john: Don’t you start the dude thing now.

Coyote: I like Shakespeare better now than I used to — maybe I do drink more, come to think of it.

  • It’s never the same again, but whatever it becomes I look forward to more of it!

  • I find the words of others significantly more interesting than I do my own. Has always been that way and shall forever remain that way. Nothing new shall be found by staying within my own mind.

One thing I read today gave me great pause. Seems a teacher in the Sudan allowed her charges to name a teddy bear Mohammed. Now she faces 40 lashes and who knows what else. Something is not right in the world; too much of this planet seems off-kilter. Even in North Korea, the death penalty has been reinstated for a man who dared make international calls. Something is really jacked off on this planet.

It’s enough to make a cat with a bad haircut get a really bad attitude.

    meow.

  • The more things change the more they remain the same.
A loss for words? I doubt it.

    It’s all good.

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Chaka Kahn, pretty sweet.

  • Worse than writer’s block, sometimes, is almost having so much to say but:

    1) not wanting to subject anyone to it, or

    2) not knowing where to start.

Bawdy puns aside, some blogs I read as just as literary as Shakespeare. Good ideas and conversation come from everywhere. Just ask the wedgie-proof underwear inventing 8 year olds. :)

  • Welcome back! Sorry I didn’t get by yesterday.

Glad you enjoyed the videos. Granted, the joke probably ruined them.

I hope your future grad work will lead you to a position to change how America spends its cash…or at least, you’ll know it before others will!

    Later.

  • Thanks for the Chaka, and thanks for checking in with me after my abrupt hiatus, and the heads up on the error code. If you click on the first Blood Mother, it will take you right to my profile. Don’t be frightened, and take everything I’ve written on the profile with a grain. I make stuff up.

  • This Jewish NY writer who is moving south and never uses words diminutively is always comforted by your presence

I have decided writing can be blogging but blogging is something else

You Cooper are one of the rare individuals who can do both

  • casey: minus ten points for never listening to Chaka Kahn. You are going to have to work hard to get those points back.

Dan: You are right, there are days when there are probably a million things to say and that makes it much worse. Usually it ends up being nothing.
That is what is great, for all the junk out there there is some amazing stuff.

Jason: I never come between a man and his jokes.

sandra: Well as I’m still popular with those searching for “vampire bitches with long fingernails” I don’t think you should worry a bout those grains.

pia: When you figure out what it is shoot me an email. ;)

  • Like you said the other day, sometimes it’s all about the reading. I’m with you there sister. Maybe “getting back” is more letting back.

  • Lordy… I haven’t listed to Chaka Kahn in forever myself… thanks for the reminder.

You have also reminded me that I haven’t read Shakespeare in years. Should I be ashamed… to be or not to be that is the question… right?

    Hope you are doing great!

  • I learned once that as a mathematician travels around a circle, he marks his way in degrees. Eventually he reaches 359 degrees and is, to most appearances, nearly right back where he started. So he takes another step and says… 360. And another…361.
You may never be able to go back, but you can always keep going forward.

  • Dave: I think you are right on this. Time to let back.

Billy: I have fine tunes on my haunts page. This theme doesn’t really allow anything tall on the bottom which is the only sidebar unless a post is open.
Prestigious Benevolent Sexism Award — ha ha.

Shayna: She soothes the soul. I am glad yo see your little face around…well not your face but you know what I mean.
Now we just have to find MJ. I think he is secretly working for Obama.

Jon: The question is how much of what is behind you will you miss? How much will you even remember?
