Yea, I know this is overkill, but I’m seriously losing.;)
I’m very bad at this election thing. It’s no wonder Obama hasn’t called me.
The mother is in town (staying with me in my apartment ), we went to see the WACK exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and ended up at my brothers for an early dinner.
I bet you are wondering if she brought me another “twin set”. She didn’t. For some reason I’m having some twin-set nostalgia, and almost wish she had.
She is painting tonight - it comforts me to know this. I remember when very young I would always lounge around her makeshift studios on pillows while she painted. For all that our differences have been pointed and painful, displayed with nippy little words or ignored phone calls, I do not recall her ever telling me to get out, go play. She never requested I leave her alone. I was always content to sit and watch, or play with her brushes often making a mess by doing a painting of my own. A painting which was never declared a masterpiece. Though now I see what was important was that she welcomed my presence, not that she failed to declare me a genius.
Caught some deer through the window just briefly before Anna, opening the back door, scared them off. These deer were hogging out on the acorns. I barely got to get the camera out to take a quick shot through the window. We told her not to go out the door, but she thought she could tip toe out quietly and fool the deer, despite the eyes on the sides of their head - giving them a 310 degree view, their super sense of smell, and ability to hear high frequency sounds. They disappeared before I got any more shots off.
I don’t particularly like deer, as they have a habit of running into me. They do look cute when they are not landing on my car causing costly damage.
It’s truly beautiful out this weekend. I hope it remains this way.
Heard from the friend of mine surfing Central and South America, living over surf shop in Nicaragua for a few weeks….ah the life. Wistful, yup that is the word.
The Violin man comes in tomorrow evening.

Years of dealing with the deer in Friday Harbor, Washington - which will practically walk into your apartment looking for handouts if given the opportunity - has left me rather blasé towards them. When I’m not mourning the damage they do to the landscape.
No deer in Hawai`i. For cute, we have to rely on kids. Or maybe surfers. High surf advisory for tomorrow through Tuesday. We might get to see it from our flat in Makaha.
Have you got your sonata picked out yet? ;)
Yes, I was eagerly awaiting news on the twin set.
Cooper did a mommy post!
It is nice to reach a point where you realize that a parent won’t declare you a genius in every area or most, but wanted your company simply because you’re her child and honestly enjoys spending time with you
Pia says you deserve the vote so I am here to give you mine. Good luck!
I voted. The bad news is that you’re getting your ass kicked. The good news is your in second place?
HA, ha, It’s a rough out there in the killing fields.
I 2nd what the amoeba man says… deer that traipse up onto the deck are a serious pain in the arse. I’ve taken to throwing the rotted apples at their rumps. They’d better hope I don’t bring out the bow so’s I can stuff one of their over-fed hides into the new freezer downstairs.
You still use twins? I had a good woman cure me of that size way back. But I refuse to upgrade to a king. I don’t want to be sleeping on something that’s bigger than my car.
Your mother isn’t the only one who likes your presence. That, at least, is the sense I get when reading other people’s comments. Yeah, I like to eavesdrop.
meow.
Twin sets are items of clothing sk. :)
Clothing? Ah well… learn something new every day. Didja see mamma mia’s JC Penny post from the other day… couples, twins… same diff.
OC: No not yet OC. ;)
I envy you those high surf advisories.
Pia: yes my bi-annual or is it tri-annual mommy post. Or what I call the mother post.
Yes it is nice to reach that point, it is more relaxing somehow.
Dariana: Thank you much, Pia is very wise in most things, not so sure about this one though. ;)
Shit Cooper a vote for you, isn’t just a vote for one of the best bloggers in the blogosphere, but a vote against a blog set up solely for a soon to be published book–on Duke of all the ironic things.
It angers me that she’s not a true blogger.
And you Olivia etc Cooper were responsible for getting the Boho to post again–in your godmother blogging role :)
I liked this post. I’m voting as fast as I can, which is saying a lot since I haven’t spent much time on my own writing this weekend. Does it count that I haven’t heard of that blog who’s winning and that i haven’t clicked on the site? Points, right? And that’s pretty cool that your mom paints. Mine does too. Expect on furniture she finds by the side of the road. Close.
U should post yer Photos on Flickr*
when U mentioned yer Mom’s Brushes it made me think o this amazing Artist*
“Forced Ideas in School Days”, 1991
Carl Beam, R.C.A. (1943 - 2005)
photo emulsion and ink on paper
“My works are like little puzzles, interesting little games. I play a game with humanity and with creativity. I ask viewers to play the participatory game of dreaming ourselves as each other. In this we find out that we’re all basically human…. My work is not fabricated for the art market. There’s no market for intellectual puzzles or works of spiritual emancipation.” – Carl Beam
In the late eighties as his reputation grew, Beam would arrive at short notice at the Ufundi Gallery with a body of new work that he wanted to immediately sell. These works ended up in all the major galleries and institutions in the area. Beam often carried his painting bag, an exquisite collection of brushes and tools, beautifully maintained to put finishing touches on a work. Once, while at the Gallery, he painted shamanic images from the American southwest on a drum
Beam told stories with pictures. His works can be read as morality plays juxtaposing long held perceptions with challenging alternatives. His well known images, a pieta, an embryo, Abraham Lincoln, Sitting Bull, a crow, the Pinta and Maria, Einstein among others, were cultural markers overlaid with references to time and space. With a linear pattern or formal grid, he tried to visually create the fourth dimension in his work, a spiritual space inhabited by a quiet intellect. That he was an artist of native and white heritage added to the scope of the complex subjects he chose.
Peace*
Cooper your “competition” has a book coming out, and shouldn’t be in the same category as you.
I even find her blog name and blog url strange “wonderland” as you were rather known for the case she writes about
In this case coming in second is a clear win, but you so deserve to win….
Pia, as usual, is ridiculously correct.
The blog that’s “winning” is a complete sham of a blog and offers not only no insight, but nary a glimmer of humanity.
I suppose in the grand scheme of things, it’s like winning a Grammy award. Milli Vannili did, AC/DC has not. And who’s had more impact?
It’s ok to be terrible at ass-kissing and pandering. Sure, you may never get elected president, but you’re at least true to your self.
Kelley: Yea, she painted before she did anything else. Now she is a business owner and travals the world purchasing commissioned work but she still paints.
You had better not get off task. I’m watching you on that.
Billy Billy: thanks for the drive-by, I’m going ot check out that artist. I’m always up for artist I haven’t seen.
Peace
Pia: I I think that blog has been a round quite a while though so it is not a new blog and I haven’t read it but I am sure it is a good blog - you are just extremely biased. As would be expected. ;)
I think everyone has their own idea of what a blog is and that is what makes the world go around . Well that and other things.
Dan: It’s nice to see you around you are missed when you don’t pop in once and awhile.
An interesting personal post. I don’t like deer either. Something about driving 3 hours a night and backroads just brings them out. Record for a night: 18 (including a group of 7.)
You’ve been Linked…thanks.
Time for 3 hours of mindless NBC TV and writing.
Later.
Thanks for the link on the vote. Done. Just when I think all mothers and daughters have issues, I meet a pair who are joined at the hip.
Jason: For me it is “Heroes” and then papers.
Sandra: thanks.
Joined at the hip was never our way.
Made an attempt to spread the word.

Good fortune in this.
You deserve the award.
