Follow me — I Am Paying For Comments.

July 14th, 2007 by cooper

No more posts about blogging after today. It’s too easy. Back to politics, social issues, sex(ism) and my non existent sex life. This is last of the “nonsense while I get my feet wet at work” easy posts.

Speaking of Paying for comments….. ( see previous post)

Always a “no follower” I have changed my evil ways and joined “the followers” — not in a “Moonie” way. Admittedly I didn’t know I was a “no follower”. I may not have been a “no follower” depending on what template I was using. I guess. (still not sure on this one) I didn’t follow before, but now I do. At least I installed a plug in which supposedly makes me a follower.

I guess what this means is your comments will produce link backs. I never knew about “no-follow” until recently and really don’t see the need for “do –follow” but some seem to think link backs important. The end result in a way is I GUESS I AM NOW PAYING FOR COMMENTS.

If this creates a catastrophe I’m going to stop following again.

Also if.….….

You tell me “good post” I will delete you, you must tell me why.

If you say “I agree” and you don’t elaborate – unless I am familiar with you.

You say “you suck”, unless followed by a reasonable explanation, you will also be deleted.

If there is a leak through of comments on how to get a big dick for instance,
(I have very little use for big dicks, they are plentiful believe me and easy to find), or how to get prescription drugs without a prescription (I went to school in a very large city I know how to get drugs without a prescription).

Too much of all of he above and I will have to go back to the ranks of “non-followers”.

You asked for it. Just remember “Every breath You Take Every Step you take”.…..

— —  —  —  —  —  —  — -

I’ve been thinking of a way to note new blogs I read and like. I am not fond of memes, or awards really. Not to be ungrateful they are always well meaning, but I do think there are way too many of them lately. The whole blogesphere has become one big meme, and some blogs are nothing but links and awards. For one who works a real job, and has only so much time to write in a blog, it does take away from writing what I want to write.

That having been said I do want to be able to advertise new blogs I read and like. I have done some technorati linking and feed reader sign-up, will start doing more of that, but I am also going to start a widget and put it on my sidebar. This widget will be changed every few days/weeks (undecided), and will consist of picture/links to a new blog or two, it will be a blog or two I recently started to read regularly. Sort of like the old blog-explosion “rent-a-blog” but so much better, people might actually click on the link. Who knows.

On the same note I have a widget now which includes my early adopters.

Early Adopter in this case defines bloggers who ( adopted me back in the day) started reading and commenting here back when I was on blogspot, called “Alice”, and really sucked. The first six months of my blogging life, that make it or break it time. I know I sucked for longer than six months but just go with me here. Early adopters are still here despite it all. The list is not complete but it’s a start.

Well the day is fine, you all get to it.

I just stumbled on your site through my incoming links list. At first I wondered where the hell the link was but then I discovered that you were one of those rockin girl bloggers that was linked to a real post (and not just the blog index) so you got a trackback from me.
I’m happy that I got here. I like your type of writing ;)

And oh yeah, the do follow movement is still a huge craze around the net…

Now I’m going to stalk around your site some more!

  2. johnNo Gravatar says:

It sounds like the fair thing to do.

To flatter and follow others, without being flattered and followed in turn, is but a state of half enjoyment.

    Jane Austen

I had to look this up. ;)

  3. caseyNo Gravatar says:

I knew that Jane Austen quote off the top of my head, wish I had gotten here first.

That is a totally new take on early adopters. I think “livejournal” whenever I see that term.

I enjoy the serious and the crap.

Didn’t know what a “Moonie” was,

  4. woohoo! *hugs*

Also, I don’t abide suckage in my reading habits and didn’t then either. So don’t insult my tastes =P

  5. DougNo Gravatar says:

If I had never seen your picture I could still recognize you by the confusion you’re causing me lately. You may delete any comment I leave without explaining why.

    OK, so back to sexism.

  6. robotmanNo Gravatar says:

I can almost hear you speaking the first few paragraphs.

If I were you I would “no follow”. You don’t need to do it. Why worry about more spam and crap comments?

  7. sauerkrautNo Gravatar says:

I’m following the leader, the leader, the leader
I’m following the leader where ever she might go.

    meow.

I need to start writing more opinions and posting fewer online articles. My blog suffers from major suckage. Yours, fortunately, does not. Gives me something interesting to read before I get into the trivia game areas.

  8. piaNo Gravatar says:

like Doug I’m an early adopter. Unlike Doug you’re not causing me confusion

Love your comment policy. Though I’m not a follower have usually always deleted comments that bore no relevance to the post.

  9. cooperNo Gravatar says:

Malin: Thanks for stopping by — the stalking is cool.

john: Eh , we’ll see. I’ve already had a couple comments I’ve had to delete but they looked like spam break-throughs.

casey: I don’t believe that for a second.
    Oh There is crap here?

EW: I would never dream of insulting your taste, except in the case of baseball.

Doug: One of my major goals in life — to confuse the dawg.

robotman: I’m not sure it matters really, we’ll see.

sauerkraut: I am going to shorten your name to SK from now on, I’m lazy.
I’m nappy tp be one step above trivia, makes me feel special.

pia: I knew you’d understand. Explain it to the dawg sometime. Yeah, I always delete comments like that, I just don’t want more of them.

  10. I think it’s a great idea to feature new blogs. Sometimes I’ve found them by clicking the “next blog” thing in the google task bar, or just clicked into the last updated blog list that keeps scrolling by. Someone asked in a recent post at my own blog about how to find new blogs — so maybe you have a few tips, too.

  11. cooperNo Gravatar says:

Inde: I hadn’t read new blogs in some time until I started using “my blog log” a few months ago. It takes some scrolling but you can find some delightful blogs if you can get past the spam. Blog Catalog I find somewhat more spammy as people are just trying to get links constantly but even there you can find good blogs if you scroll. I often just look at links on blogs I read. I’ve also found a couple at 9rules, not a whole lot, as most of their really good blogs are techie or web 2.0 or “blog talk” based but it’s a good place to go if you are looking for info on how to get your blog in shape code and design wise.

I sometimes find sites I don’t personally have an interest but if I think a certain friend will like it I send the links on to friends.

  12. lol

    ***************

Just joking. Someone once left a comment like that on my blog. I guess it’s better than nothing because at least I know they put enough energy to punch a few buttons, but… really? That’s all they have to say to me? lol?

Anyway, I took the “no-follow” out a while ago. From what I understand it takes the evil Google spider-robots away from indexing your own writing but I guess it’s fair because a blog is still a back-and-forth between writer and reader. Something like that.

  13. adamNo Gravatar says:

i’ve had dofollow on my blog for a while, and it hasn’t changed my comment spam levels at all. blogging about blogging is definately easier.

  14. Ev NucciNo Gravatar says:

I’m with you Cooper. I don’t want anymore (awards). I gave you one anyway…but I don’t care what you do with it. Go look at it then…walk away if you want…I don’t care.

But this was a great post. I so freaking technologically challenged I don’t know how to do the “no follow” or “follow” thing. So everybody’s gotta wait till I get a new design…etc., and get all that technological stuff worked out at one time!

  15. Ev NucciNo Gravatar says:

Oooh Cooper hugs to you…I love the big dick comment!!! Its precious!

  16. cooperNo Gravatar says:

People in the Sun: From now on known as PITS unless you strenuously object.

Those I always delete unless unless I’ve actually said something hysterical — believe me that is rare. Anyway in that case I expect a ROTFL.

adam: Well so far I’ve noticed very little difference. My newer spammers have decided to call themselves by the names of people who comment here all the time. I find this rather amusing.

Ev: I have decided to make an award page where I post all awards. It will be quite colorful. I may go back pretty far maybe even list all memes I have done there — a fun page. We’ll see, it is like time just isn’t there anymore to make the blog look decent.

    What’s a girl to do?

You may now be cursed with many of those big dick comments yourself, beware. I’ll hop on over.

  17. GoldyNo Gravatar says:

I am a fan of the no follow club and wish there was an easy way to implement it in typepad.

  18. GoldyNo Gravatar says:

    Meant “do follow”.

  19. mojo shiversNo Gravatar says:

I wouldn’t say I was an early adopter as much as I would say that I recognized that your blog was about something. More importantly, I recognized it was about something that I wasn’t necessarily about. It’s like I was saying about my friend’s writing just today, if there are two things your site’s always been about, Miss Cooper, it’s about providing interesting content in an interesting way.

So, in a way, I didn’t adopt your site as much as was tricked into falling in love with it.

  20. JACOBNo Gravatar says:

I hate reading when people write about blogging, but
when you write about blogging it’s funny, entertaining and true.

I was almost an early adopter. I think I only missed it by nine months or so. I am not a rampant blogger — more a rampant reader.

I don’t know if “Blogger” follows. I finally was able to get in to my old account there and am using wordpress almost exclusively now.

  21. Joe GNo Gravatar says:

I don’t think you should be following people around, it’s just not like you.

If I get a blog will I be placed in the early adopter seating over there. — —  —  — >

can we still think outside the Box??

    ;))

i laffed i won or was awarded the Schmooze Award + wanted to participate + it took me an ungodly amount of time about 4 hours to pull together Links to the 5 Bloggers + 2 Links to the Originators + 1 Link to the Kind person who Honoured me* i had to chuckle tho when i got only about 7 lousy comments back + i had to cajole one of the Originators into even doing that!! The real hilarity started when I saw that 2 People who i had feted with da Schmooze popped by (i could see their Faces on MyBlogLog + BlogCatalog Widgets!!) + they didn’t even drop a FART in the comment Box!!! Like what the Hell is up with dat i ask of thee????

Truth be told i get ZERO comments — hell i don’t even get SPAM comments!!!

Beggars can’t be choozers so i’d be Happy + Thrilled to get SEX of any kind!!

    Cheers NoWickedWitch!! Billy ;))

  23. Yay! Give some link-love back to your readers, I say. Nofollow doesn’t really stop the spammers, anyway.

But I notice that you’re back to partial feeds… :(

  24. cooperNo Gravatar says:

Goldy: It’s seems ok so far no major issues.

MoJo: Of course you were tricked I am a witch, just not a wicked one — remember.

Jacob: You came pretty early on just not in that first wave.

Joe: I believe you have a blog…you of course know I am very astute. When you come out of the closet you will be listed as an early adopter, maybe as the earliest adopter.

Billy: It does take a lot of time and sustained effort which honestly is not what I was ever about nor do I want to be.

Cheers to you, I left you a note at MBL.

Sterling: I just fixed the feed.

  25. danNo Gravatar says:

If you haven’t noticed, people with something relevant to actually say are few and far between. It’s polemical, or wishy washy, or well, boring.

At least when you choose your sides, you have a reasoned idea why, even if people do or don’t agree with you. Not thinking things through is the sign of sending big penis spam to every email, girl or boy. ;)

  26. cooperNo Gravatar says:

Dan: I think everyone has something relevant to say. The problem is they do not often choose topics where what they say is relevant.

  27. sauerkrautNo Gravatar says:

Billy should consider himself lucky… I got some barbie-with-a-penis leaving a nasty gram in my MBL comment section calling me a “shaved pussy avatar.”

    The noive of some peeps.

  28. BeamanNo Gravatar says:

That new widget you mention about showing just one or two new blogs sounds interesting. I might have to get one myself.

  29. Jason P.No Gravatar says:

Yes, it is a bitch to link to all the places you like or would like other to visit (and like too.) I don’t always get the chance to visit everyone, but I appreciate your visits and it at least lets me know I am in the world…

Sometimes it is difficult to come up with plenty else to say, instead of “good blog.” Maybe it is just hard to put into better words what ‘you said’.

  30. I will not say your post “It’s cool”, “good post”, “you suck”, “I agree”, or etc. We give a comment (in my humble opinion) to other blogs, because I like to comment on their post, because they have give a contribution to blogsphere, and am I mistake to give some appreciation to them? Blogging is a fun activity, I don’t blogging for the sake of money, I even don’t earn money from giving comment to other people blogs. The hell yeah, I am blogging because I like it. Blogging is personally self thinking medium, blogging for self-actualization, and blogging for earning multicultural relationship.

  31. DebNo Gravatar says:

Interesting! I just removed the “no follow” code within my html. I was told that this would help when I comment on other blogs.

Aside from that, blogs that I’ve come across lately have TOO many meaningless rewards, tags, (like I’ll answer 50 questions and I’ll tag 10 people to do it type of deal), as well as the TMI blogs that just explain way too many details about one’s day.

I was relieved when coming onto your blog, that you’ve noticed the same “trend” I see in blogosphere.

    Cheers!
