Wonderland or Not

Tomo­rrow, Octo­ber 5, you have the chance to make your voice heard around the world — and have a direct impact on the ground in Darfur.

In a sin­gle day, acti­vists in hun­dreds of cities on four con­ti­nents will join together in soli­da­rity with the vic­tims of geno­cide in Dar­fur. Par­ti­ci­pants will “fast” from a luxury item for the day — but this is no sym­bo­lic protest.

Anti-genocide acti­vists will take the money they save in fas­ting and donate it to civi­lian pro­tec­tion for Darfur.

Will you join us, and help fund the pea­ce­kee­pers that are so des­pe­ra­tely nee­ded to stem the violence?

Dar­fur­Fast is spon­so­red by STAND: A Stu­dent Anti-Genocide Coa­li­tion, but ever­yone is invi­ted to par­ti­ci­pate. And all pro­ceeds from Dar­fur­Fast will go to the Geno­cide Inter­ven­tion Net­work, which directly funds civi­lian pro­tec­tion in Dar­fur. Take these three easy steps on Thurs­day, and demons­trate your com­mit­ment to the anti-genocide movement:

* Pledge your sup­port to fast in soli­da­rity, and then encou­rage your friends and family to do the same! Check out our just-released You­Tube video for inspiration!

* Find an event in your area and con­nect with other local acti­vists. Nothing hap­pe­ning near you? Write a let­ter to your news­pa­per desc­ri­bing why you’re par­ti­ci­pa­ting in the Fast, and empha­si­zing the neces­sity for pea­ce­kee­pers in Darfur!

* Donate your pledge through a spe­cial form on our web­site so that we know the con­tri­bu­tion is for Dar­fur­Fast. If you’re want to con­tri­bute even more, con­si­der hos­ting a Dar­fur fun­drai­ser in the near future — we’re happy to help! Remem­ber that every dollar counts for Dar­fur! In addi­tion to the Geno­cide Inter­ven­tion Net­work and STAND, the Dar­fur­Fast is being sup­por­ted by the Save Dar­fur Coa­li­tion and a natio­nal coa­li­tion of Mus­lim and Dar­fu­rian com­mu­ni­ties, who will be hol­ding tra­di­tio­nal meals around the country to break the day’s fast.
