Damn Liberals — We Only Have to Look to American Idol to See There is No Real Problem

May 25th, 2006 by cooper

OMG — She says in her best Valley Doll voice.

This woman uses American Idol as proof positive sexism and racism are not the rampant problem in this country some Liberals (of which I evidently am one because she linked to a past post of mine “Sexism is Alive and Well”) would have you believe.

To paraphrase not quote.…

Because, America voted two African Americans and three women to the esteemed title, before voting a white male, there really just could not be an issue with racism and sexism to the degree Liberals claim.

I would like to know who the voters she calls “America” are. I always thought they were ten year olds and grandmothers.

Face it, ten year olds are not yet totally indoctrinated into the realm of race and sex and grandmothers.…well, by the age of seventy-five all but the most ardent racist or sexist has realized it doesn’t matter if you are male or female, black or white, we all live, we all die, and we all do stuff in between and we should just be happy and equal. I don’t think those voters count.

I swear the punditry of the conservative ideologues in this country is very pervasive. It starts at Michelle Malkin’s site and trickles idown to the simplest of forms; the individual blog.

I find it amusing it takes so little to convince some people of their distorted truth.

There was a much longer post that I started at the park during my lunch break while I watched the joggers pass by. I would have jogged but I was wearing what amounts to a casual business suit.

(Yes, I am crying and that suit came off two seconds before I actually hit my door)
I am discarding that post. It had to do with the fact I did watch, for the first time ever, American Idol. A friend forced me into it; it was a large waste of time.

I was sad to see those three guys destroy that Willie Nelson song. I do love Burt Bacharach songs … and Prince, well bless his heart I have always thought Prince was a genius despite the frequent confusion about his nom d’art.

And please, what was the big deal about Clay Aiken looking like a toned down gay hipster? I mean what did he look like before and why was that little guy with the glasses almost weeping with what seemed like joy?

The performers themselves — I just didn’t get it?

They were just average singers but hey …yeah for the American Dream.

My friend Ben, who happens to be gay and who happens to be sitting beside me right now, just informed me that although he thought Clay looked for sure “Gay” and not in the sexual preference usage of the word but in the unfortunately common high school jarganese,he was definitely not “hipster”. That hair cut alone disqualifies him.

LOL… I have to admit that American Idol is one of my guilty pleasures,
sometimes better than chocolate (well, alot better since I don’t care to
much for chocolate…don’t know if I am even spelling chocolate right).
Anyway… last night’s performances were very goofy… BUT… the highlight
for me was PRINCE! I only got to see the last 40 minutes and PRINCE
    was the highlight! :)

Yeah… I found that spam filter too. Although a few slip through every
    now and then…

I read that woman’s article… Miss Righty (was that her name) anyway…
just pure stupidity… OMG (in my best southern drawl) :)

Teach boys that if you do not have clean teeth no one is going to want to do it with you anyway.( I thought I’d add that just for educational puroposes and because men just do not always seem to understand that good hygiene will go a long way to getting them laid and they should know that and if educators wanted to really help them they would teach them that.)

Bless you Cooper you are making me laugh while makng some very good points.
You’ve covered everythin at least once from what I an tell and quite well.

Prince is a financial genious if anything but I missed the show.

  3. I was at a grad party during the show and we booed the girl who left to watch it. Even an addict of the flickering screen such as myself knows that good company > tv and will even forsake Boston Legal for it. Anyways, there is an inherent flaw in trying to use that show to prove a point.

Re: abstinence: You’re right of course.

I think that today’s a softer world puts it well:

    When the government outlaws sex
    I will kill the president

    I will burn the flag

I will touch you where you need

  4. Miz BoheMiaNo Gravatar says:

I can either write a novel sized rant or bash my head against the wall…

I agree and you know my opinion on it all/

    Sex…

When I lost my virginity I wondered why I hadn’t had sex earlier… well, I knew why but my point is it is fab, people willl still have sex and better to educate our youth, because chances are that when educated you will engage in it less anyway, than have them become subject to the conseqeunces that will arise out of their ignorace… as for those who so strongly oppose sexual activiy, methinks they need a might good fuck to straighten themselves out.

    I think I have said enough…

Come over to Spain… we’ll cry together and then we’ll go and catch us some flamenco over sangrias and tapas… you wanna?

    Where to begin.

    I hate the registration thing.

That American Idol as proof positive — that’s funny. You aren’t offended at the liberal title are you?

    I’ve never seen the show
Yea damn, why did they not make that clean teeth thing perfectly clear to us? I think I agree with you on that. Good suggestion.

Nice post cooper cooper and I’m sorry you are working on a holiday weekend but I am working too, only I work on the beach. ;)

  6. joegNo Gravatar says:

God help us if American Idol can be used to prove anything except that people need to get a life.

I’m glad you survived that American Idol show. I never would have been able to do it.

You’e right on so many counts that I find I don’t have to even say anything.

We had no sex ed where I came from ;it was lucky if our parents did any education in that area.

I would like to know what goes along with teaching abstinence? Do they teach what is what and why and how and the stuff kids really need to know if they come from family that chooses not to talk about that stuff?

The registration is simple for me because I use the same name and password everywhere and it does not take any longer than the blogger wrod verification.

You have an enjoyable working holiday weekend and keep writing.

  7. kyahgirlNo Gravatar says:

Hi, I’ve lurked here before but this is my first time commenting.
This was such an excellent post, I just wanted to say so.

I have two little kids and plan on teaching them as you suggest. I’ve started with a lot of the stuff we’ve talked about over at Miz B’s place, like correct language, hygiene, all that stuff.

    Great blog Alice.

  8. miss tifiNo Gravatar says:

I’m a Canadian by birth. I lived in Europe for a few years while growing up but have lived the last twelve years in this country.

I find the abstinence stance amusingly ignorant and in most cases simple another scare tactic.

I have watched American Idol. I get hooked on pop culture phenomena what can I say.

To assume that due to the choices the voters made — for their American Idol — there are not significant problems with race and gender in this country is quite a leap.

Enjoy your weekend, working or not and thank you for a blog which both amuses and provokes.

I love that part about the clean teeth.

  9. DawgNo Gravatar says:

I remember from the people that used to attack Pia that arguing with some people isn’t worth the time. We live in a different world from the one where the police turned dogs and water hoses on black protesters and abstinence-only education promised everyone at least a chance of dropping out of school to take care of an heir, true. But to simplify where we are in our history to the results of American Idol is to boil it down to a level a fool can digest and misunderstand. Or blog about.

    You’re a liberal?

  10. cooperNo Gravatar says:

Shayna: I have never had time or desire to watch it but I know there are a lot of closet AI viewers.

Jacob: Financial genius as well I’m sure. Always happy to make you laugh and think at the same time. I can’t do both at once myself.

Wombat: I hadn’t seen that softer world yet. lol

Mizzy Bohem: You crack me up. I just fail to understand so much sometimes it boggles the mind. No head bashing.

Robotman: That’s ok I only like the beach when I am in the water on a board. The teeth thing is standard.

Joe: Thanks and you have a great holiday too. As far as what they teach I have no idea because where I went to school– when I ended up in Maryland in middle school — they taught it as right as they could ; STD’s, choice, birth control, proper body parts, masturbation– in a mixed classroom …the whole nine yards. I think they actually stopped doing that the year I I graduated and now I don’t know where they are with it.

Misstifi: I am a clean teeth person.

Dawg: No labels I am just a twenty year old girl with a blog remember; at least for a couple more days.

addendum: a very tired twenty year old girl with a blog wo is thinking of going to bed at ten PM.

  11. DawgNo Gravatar says:

I remember the birthday, Alice. Wednesday, I believe.

And I was teasing about the label, of course. I mean, you’re to the right of Ken Mehlman on oral sex.

  12. The faulty simple logic is often used in making assertations which are totally without merit.

I have always been one for a good, clean set of teeth.

No beach here either I ended up having to work this weekend as well.

  13. CowgirlNo Gravatar says:

I haven’t watched a single American Idol show this year.

    Indifferent about that.

Hope you are having a nice weekend…mine is off to a good start.

  14. LaurieNo Gravatar says:

Love your posting style and you posts. Such a mix.

I disagree on one thing and that is that, sadly, a ten year old can be indoctrinated into anything of he comes from an environment that encourages such.

The whole abstinence thing is just frustrating to me and I am with you on teaching a whole lot more than birth control all the way through the clean teeth.

  15. callmerandyNo Gravatar says:

We know sexism is alive and well. It is part of our culture and a necessary part for survival.

That does not equate to being able to ram a stick up the ass of lacrosse players you never meant because you have seen a few racist and sexist comments all over the web. They are citizens of this country too and they deserve respect.

I find no fault with your writings on abstinence, pretty good if taken in the proper context but on to the other subject; we don’t know for sure that the “American Public” is not accurately represented by the voter demographics for the show. If it is then maybe the statement made about their being not much racism and sexism as liberals like to make us believe is accurate.

And you are more than a liberal sweetheart. You are at corner of the street called fanaticism looking for a way to turn.

I appreciate your courage in allowing people who do not agree with you to sign up and post.

Let’s see how “liberal” you are now.

    Happy Memorial Day Weekend “Alice”

  16. johnmNo Gravatar says:

You inspired a masterpiece dear girl check it out.

Idiots all — off with their heads.

UH Oh– Sweetheart is a no no.

I can not but agree with you again and again and again.

Sexism and racism is profound as are a lot of isms. We area country full of isms.

    It sucks.

  17. I read that post at the other blog. You can’t really argue with people who misuse logic like that. But the post does a service in that it collects several good posts about the issue, including yours.

  18. cooperNo Gravatar says:

    Dawg: ;)

    way to the right.

jake: Hope your work day was as much fun as mine.

Cowgirl: I worked and went to a “picnic” and a bonfire at which I think the trees were actually praying. Have a great weekend.

    Laurie:
As per the ten year old…. I guess that was a little optimistic.

randy: hum. I’m fairly certain that sexism, and I don’t really think that is the term you are thinking of and is not the term used, but what your thinking of may have been necessary for survival in the past but that stopped being the case in reality a long, long time ago.
I’m also fairly certain I am not the one with the stick it appears to be lacrosse players use them for many things. You read this enough to know I never claimed they were guilty so let’s just not go there.

Ya I hung out on that corner yesterday, took a break today and looking in the mirror I look pretty tired but oops…still liberal.

    john: I’m impressed.

indie: Of course you can’t nor did I try. I just came here instead. It’s a nicer place anyway.

American Idol should be avoided at all times. Seriously, its a show for preteens and family members of the contestants. I would hope that most other people would be too intelligent for such drivel. But I fear not, as “I Wannabe A _____” shows are popping up all over the place. Anybody want to by my TV?

This abstinence bill looks alot like the unintelligent design crap. Parents no longer want to take responsibility for what their kids actually learn, therefore they want to tell the teachers how to do their jobs. Parents! If you want your kids to know something, TEACH IT TO THEM YOURSELVES

  20. weirsdoNo Gravatar says:

That Carol Platt Liebau is very freaky looking. I would be leary of any claims she made.

  21. jasonNo Gravatar says:

Lol, can’t comment on American Idol, but, well, it ain’t about diversity.

Um…unless diversity means, in Conservative lingo, “Hey, let’s put some minorities up on stage and make money off them…you know, like Grandpa used to do with those Minstrel Shows…”

Lol…can ya tell I’m not a fan (and that I spent part of the day listening to Public Enemy)

If reality TV is representative of the American Way, then I’m Newt Fucking Gingrich
